Hi All!
I'm going to a family reunion next week and can't decide what to take!! My cousin who is hosting will be cooking a ham, and turkey on her grill. Everyone else brings their own drink and a dish to share. It can be a dessert, or sidedish!! I just can't think at the present what to take. Suggestions will be accepted gladly!!!

Thanks

Since you mentioned there will be a ham I have an AWESOME Pineapple Stuffing recipe that goes great with ham. Or you can make scalloped potatoes which is easy and again goes well with ham. Both will need to be heated in the oven, or brought over warmed.

PM me if you'd like the recipe.

Easy desserts would be brownies, cupcakes, cookies, things that are easy to grab and enjoy.

Have a great time!

Oriental Coleslaw.

ORIENTAL COLESLAW

4 packages chicken-flavored ramen noodles (reserve seasoning packets for dressing)
1 (1lb) bag coleslaw mix
1 (4 ounces) bag sunflower seeds
3 bunches green onions, chopped
2 (4 ounces) cans sliced water chestnuts
Dressing
1/2 cup vinegar
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons soy sauce

1. In a large bowl, break up ramen noodles into smaller pieces.
2. Add coleslaw mix, sunflower seeds, green onions, and water chestnuts.
3. Stir to combine.
4. To make dressing: In a small bowl whisk together vinegar, oil, sugar, soy sauce and seasoning packets until combined.
5. Pour over salad, toss well to make sure dressing is evenly distributed.
6. If you want the noodles to soften, refrigerate overnight

Ever since DSIL's MIL made this for us at a family gathering last year, we can't seem to get enough of it and it comes out on a regular basis and goes well with a lot of things. :)

Or you could just bring a pre-mixed salad and add :

GARLIC CRUNCH TOPPING FOR SALADS

3 cloves garlic, sliced thinly
1 cup oats (not quick oats..regular oats)
1 tablespoon melted butter
2 tablespoons honey
salt and pepper to taste

1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
2. Toss all ingredients together.
3. Spread on cookie sheet.
4. Bake 25 minutes until toasted.
5. Cool on cookie sheet.
6. Store in ziploc bag or airtight container.

Good luck.

How about a pasta salad with lots of different veggies in it. You could use an italian dressing on it so you don't have to worry about mayo going bad plus it would add good flavor. Personally I wouldn't bring anything that needs to be heated unless the hostess says it's ok. Maybe she doesn't want to bother with the oven. Most people bring desserts to things like this so I'd stick with a side dish.

Sweet and sour kielbasa! Its a favorite at our parties!

All you do is slice up a couple pounds if Kielbasa and put it in a crockpot. Add a bottle of ketchup and a jar of grape jelly. (I know sounds weird). Cook on high for about an hour stirring occasionally. Reduce to low and simmer.
It's real good!!!!!

Something vegetarian so I can eat it.

Oh wait, I wasn't invited.

We've been bringing a couple of boxes of Tyson Hot and Spicey Wings to pot lucks lately. Always has gone over very well with attendees.

I have a really YUMMY recipe for Double Chocolate Fantasy Bars. They're very easy to make using cake mix, chocolate chips and a few other ingredients.

I just took these to a party on Saturday and they were a big hit!

PM if you would like the recipe!

::yes:: A healthy pasta salad would be ideal...or a very nice garden salad...no one seems to bring a salad to these occasions

Well, you have to know your audience. I stopped going to the trouble to make healthy salads for my family potlucks because no one would eat it.

Now I usually look for some a recipe that I would never make at home, and they eat it up. At Christmas I made a corn casserole that had lots of butter and cream cheese in it - very unhealthy, but they gobbled it up.

I was going to say Oriental Salad too, but a little different from TOV's recipe, I use BokChoy and Napa Cabbage, green onions, and slivered almonds and ramen noodles.

The dressing is 1 packet of ramen seasoning, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup red wine vinegar, 3/4 cup of oil.

This is a big hit here at work and everywhere I've taken it.

Stuffed mushrooms always go over big! PM me if you want me to tell you how I make them.

WendyWhiner - you're killing me! You're so funny!

I have an easy side dish that goes well with ham (or anything!) and it's simple to expand the ingredients and make a larger portion. This will make a regular casserole dish - I think that's about a 2 quart measure (I always make mine in a pretty souffle dish I have, so that's why I'm not positive of the measurement size, but any baking dish should be fine.)
Ingredients:
2 cans of artichoke hearts (plain, not marinated)
2 boxes of frozen spinach, thawed
2 8oz. blocks of cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup mayonnaise
Parmesan cheese
black pepper to taste
Drain & quarter the artichokes and place on the bottom of a baking dish. Squeeze the spinach as dry as possible and place on top of the artichokes in a layer. With a mixer, beat together the cream cheese, mayo and black pepper until smooth; layer the cream cheese over the spinach. (This can be hard to spread without picking up the spinach, but if you drop it by teaspoons to cover & then spread it out it seems to work better.) Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes (until cheese is slightly bubbly and top has browned lightly.)

It doesn't sound like anything much but somehow during baking the flavors all come together really nicely. It tastes fine at room temperature too, so you can bake it ahead.
