Hello Everyone :)

We normally go to Disney in January but due to my DH unexpected emergency surgery, we had to put it off. We are now planning on going late April/early May. If you have any suggestions on when might be better, please share. My DH, DD, DS and for the first time my dad is coming along :)

I was wondering if any of you tried those Personal Cooling Systems that are worn around the neck? We are upstate New Yorkers and know it is hot in May and with my father coming along, I was thinking perhaps these would make the heat a little more tolerable, especially for my DH and my father. I know the heat can sometimes make it difficult to be as comfortable as you would like to be. We went once in September and the heat was unbearable for us!

But we don't want to put the trip off too long so it is definitely late April/early May because missing it this month, in conjunction with my husband's surgery has been overwhelming and we need a getaway A.S.A.P, but he needs about 8 - 10 weeks to heal (Chron's disease took it's toll and he had to have emergency Gastrointestinal surgery). But any help with tolerating the heat is welcomed and appreciated. I have heard mixed reviews on these cooling systems so was hoping some of my fellow Disney fanatics might be able to fill me in.

Any help or suggestions is appreciated. Thank you so very much :)

Best wishes to you all in 2004!!!!

I carry the "seaspray" type of fan that sprays water. I have a lot of trouble with the heat & the fan has been a big help. Make sure you carry extra batteries along!

Late April/early May - it's not really that hot down in the World, and every indoor place seems to have AC, so I wouldn't worry about spending money on something to keep you cool!

Thank you so much for the helpful info. My dad is 60 and he does not handle the heat very well, so my main concern was keeping him as cool and comfortable as possible so he can fully enjoy himself with the grandchildren :)

Thanks so much!

We carry the spray mister thing as well as a mini fan (picked them up at the dollar store) The other thing I do is carry bottled water. I put several in the fridg and several in the freezer each night. The frozen one keeps the others cold in my back pack and cn serve as a great cool down on neck or face. It should not be unbearable when you are there. I would avoid July & August though.

We have to be very careful as my DD has heat problems and is quick to vomit and/or pass out:crazy:

Good luck
Sandy

We use the neck wraps. They have some kind of gel in them. You soak them in cool water and then tie them around your neck, no drips. They keep you cool and you can always recool them at a water fountain. We get ours for 2.96 in the sporting goods section of Wal Mart by the tennis stuff. Buy one now(small investment)and just see how you like it. We can definately tell the difference, and we dont like carrying a fan around all day. Good luck with your search!

Thank you so much everyone, for all your wonderful input. It is greatly appreciated.
Shelleybell, I have heard about those neck wraps...so they really do make a difference - great....and do they keep you fairly cool for a few hours?

Thank you so much!!!

It felt to us that it kept you cool for at least half the day. At that point, we would just rewet them and start again. If you have a cooler in your room, soak it in that overnight...icy! I made the mistake of leaving mine in the room once, and had to fight DS to share his. Please, just get one now and see for yourself. I would hate to give you bad advice at such an important time for you.

We typically go off season (Oct - Dec) and have encountered 90 degree weather, so we always bring our personal fans/misters. Florida weather I have found to be unpredictable, so you are better to be safe than sorry.
I, too, will be trying the neck wraps. Even for around home for a little league game, etc. Sometimes it is too hot.
I can sympathize with your dad because our first day of any trip to Florida, usually is a "migrane" day for me (even with my medication) from the change in climate and temperature.
Good luck and enjoy your vacation.

I went this August for the first time and it was really hot. Here are my suggestions:

Try to find a great pair of sandals or at least socks that abosorb the sweat like wrightsocks (wrightsocks.com). If your feet are cool and comfortable it reaaly helps!!

I had a personal fan w/o the mister. I really don't think it haelped much (just moved around the hot air) but I felt like it did (at least til I dropped it and it got all tempermental on me, they just don't make em like they used to :teeth: :hyper: )

I think the misters are nice, but buy one BEFORE you go! You can get real little ones that aren't such a pain to carry.

If you have access to a refrigerator freeze your water and maybe a wet washcloth.

Walk through the shops, most are connected like in MK you can walk done mainsteet basking in the AC.

I think you'll be fine in April/May, I wish I could go then (DF is a teacher.)

Have a great trip!!
