Hi guys! Connor has just recently (past two nights) started being fussy around early evening until 8-9pmish. He is 9 weeks old.

We tried the usual: swing, bouncy seat, swaddling, massaging his belly and/or back walking, bottle, no bottle, paci...

Is there anything else I should know about as a new mommy? I feel so helpless! He is just always a happy baby! Thanks!!!!

Mylicon, it's for gas. Really expensive, DH calls it "liquid gold". Give him a few doses and see if it helps. We found the generic didn't work.

How about a drive in the car?

Do you have one of those Baby Bjorn carriers? Worth every penny!! They are about $70.

Do you warm his bottle?

Our son is Conner, my maiden name!
Good luck!

I second the Mylicon. DS6 was a very colicky baby, started at 3 months on to his 6 months. We've tried everything too, but sometimes just curling him up like a ball helped. Tuck his legs under him then swaddling him. The tucking position seemed to help the stomach.

Lots of swinging on daddy's shoulder's helped too.

Good luck.

I would also try the Mylicon. It may not work but it is worth a shot. That was about the same age that DS started to get more fussy and the Mylicon really did seem to help him.

Good luck! It is so hard when our babies are hurting and/or upset and we don't know what to do to make them feel better.

Gripe water! It was a life saver with Belle, she had colic - true ear shattering colic, lasted for a few months and she'd just cry for hours on end.

It's a natural drop that helps with gas and stomach pain, we used to dip her binky in it as needed, just a bit helped!

Mylicon was very helpful for us for a while. I also heard that putting the car seat on top of the dryer and run the dryer (don't step away from the dryer!!!!); the motion and the noise helps. This was one advice given to me( who was going nuts with all of DS crying in the late afternoon through the evenings; I started to cry all the time, too!). I could not do that since we live in AZ and the dryer was in the hot garage in the summer when DS was colicly.

We ended up having to switch him to soy formula and that was the ticket for ending his colic. Guess the milk formula just gave him bad tummy aches.

Good luck and once again, Congratulations! My children are also adopted!

Thank you so much for the gripe water link! Before ds was born, I had a client come in and used that while she was in the office. I mean to write it down and forgot to! She swore by it too! I had forgotten all about that until now!

Yes- we had mylicon, but you know what ... we have been using generic yesterday and today! Ugh- maybe I will try to real thing again and see if that is the problem! :) Thanks!

another thing we tried to do with DS was to give him just a bit of soda. The carbonation made him burp really hard and that seemed to eliviate the problem.

I don't really recommend doing this, but at the time I was so desperate, since I had to come home from work and deal with a non-stop crying baby!

 for you!!
I hope you find something that works:hug:

Add us to the list that had to switch to Soy formula (he was like a new baby).

Also, DS was born in June, so we lucked out, but he ADORED being outside. We would just go out, sit on the deck (with him in his stroller w/ his mosquito netting) 'rock' him in the stroller.

I also heard that putting the car seat on top of the dryer and run the dryer (don't step away from the dryer!!!!); the motion and the noise helps.

LOL.....I thought this was the most insane idea our ped. ever recommended, until grandbaby #7 proved me wrong. It was one on the few things that settled our little one and gave exhaused Mommie and Daddy a break. ::yes:: Praise God it works!!!

 I feel your pain, but this too shall pass. ;)

I agree with Mylicon advice, the car ride and the dryer all helped.
I feel your pain, my son would cry from about 10pm to 1am ,I remember those car rides in the middle of the night good luck and best wishes with the little guy.

I second (third, fourth??) the change in formula, but with my older son we didn't have to switch him to soy, we just got the low iron formula for him. It wasn't the fact that it was a milk product, it was the high level of iron. That really made all the difference.

The other thing that helped him was recommended by the pediatric nurse practitioner in our pediatrician's office and that was weak chamomile tea. Just brew it (not too strong) and let it cool (or speed up the cooling with an ice cube) and put it in his bottle. It did help my son, and he liked it too!

I know what you're going through. Two of my kids were colicky. I don't miss those days. I did and used everything that everyone has posted so far. Mylicon was great.

I remember the first night home from the hospital with my son thinking they gave me the wrong baby because he wasn't screaming in the hospital.

One thing that my son absolutely loved and worked really well was this: Place the baby on your shoulder with his tummy against your shoulder and his face facing in back of you so that you hold his feet with your hands in front of you. I know it sounds weird, but it really worked for him especially when his dad would put him in that position. It also depends on how strong his neck muscles are. I forget at what age they hold their heads up, been over ten years since my youngest was a baby. Time flies.

What I used for my daughter, which I don't know if it was around when my son was a baby, he's 18, was a little device that I would attach to her swing or crib that made a static or swooshing sound to mimic the sound of inside the womb. The pediatrian's office that I went to lent it out to parents and it was a life saver for me. I would definately check into this. It worked better than anything else for us.

Good luck. I really hope you find what works best for your son. It is tough when your baby isn't feeling too comfortable, especially when you are exhausted.

It's been a while but our ped said there is no such thing as
colic -old term. She said most of these babies have gas or
gerd/reflux. We had ds on zantac until he was 6, he now controls
it with smaller meals, no late night eating and tums. We also
avoid acidic stuff. We changed to soy formula but watch it as
many of them have too much iron for infants which causes constipation -also painful. Good luck, I remember the sleepless
nights and the crying very clearly. Ds will be 9 in 2 weeks.:)

My sister's son was terribly colicky. Two things would help him.

Running the vaccum cleaner. It just sat in their LR like a piece of furniture! They even tape recorded it for the car rides.

And the chiropractor.

When my DD was about 5 weeks old she would get fussy every night at about 5 or so. Like clockwork. I tried all the usual stuff and nothing worked. I ended up just running bath water and we'd both get in the tub and she was quiet. We'd sit in there for quite some time! LOL Maybe the water soothed her tummy. I don't know...but it worked!

Good luck and congrats. He's a beautiful baby!

MY first thought was a xanax! Good luck with the whole colic thing. Nothing we ever did worked a lot, but it does pass! And it is blissfullly worth it to hold an little one again.

Oh, how I feel your pain! I wouldn't wish colic on my worst enemy. So a big  for you! We had to switch to soy formula and when that would make him constipated we would have to add Karo syrup to it. Our ped. prescribed some medicated gas drops and that was wonderful (the mylicon did nothing for my son, but maybe we weren't using enough of it). My son loved the vibrating bouncy seat but when that wouldn't work, I would run the vacuum cleaner. Yep just putting my make-up on, vacuum cleaner running - very annoying but it worked. My husband would also sit on the edge of our bed and just bounce him until the baby would fall asleep. My biggest mistake? Not calling my mom or someone to help. I thought as the mother I should be able to handle it and take care of everything which caused me a bunch of frazzled nerves and tears! Don't be too proud to ask for help! Hope things get better.
