I am looking into SSR for the extra time, we are only 28 and DD is 5. Has anyone originally bought 50-75 points from Disney lately? I dont want to waste the phone call money to be told it cannot be done. I would rather not have to pay closing costs and if they are still doing the 15% off it is much more tempting!!!!

The minimum available from DVC for a first time buyer is 150 points.

If you are already a DVC member, you can buy an add on contract directly from Disney for as little as 25 points (50 points if you want Disney-financing).

AFAIK, Disney will not sell you less than 150 points if you are not already a DVC member.

If you are a first time buyer and want less than 150 points, your only alternative is to buy resale.

Best wishes -

We purchased a resale contract for 100 SSR points last October prior to seeing the resort (we like the DTD area and extra years). The price per point including closing costs was $83.97 which is close to the current 15% disc offered by Disney. After seeing the resort we decided to add on to our contract through Disney earlier this month as we were already planning another trip for next October.

Keep in mind you'll probably get 2005 points + 2006 points if you go directly through Disney. If you go a resale contract it will depend on what you find available.

We also purchased a small (50pt) contract @SSR earlier this year via resale for 78/pt+ closing costs. Just dipped my big toe in.

When we were there in Dec. my DH toured the resort and loved it, so we added on 120pts (2 60pt contracts in case we have to sell for some reason).

Be careful with those small contract ideas. DVC is addictive!

I have had 80 OKW points for about five years now (bought thru resale, obvously) and it works just fine for me. My brother has tons of BW points so that does give me the flexibility of borrowing/renting from him if I need a few extra points. But i like the small contract so i do not get hit with big annual dues.

We started with a 30 point SSR contract a year ago via a resale thru The Timeshare Store.... then added 50 more thru DVC after we got into the system for a total of 80.

That will work for us in a 1BR for a few years because both contracts came with Banked points. We had 160 last fall and used 90 for our usual 5 nite stay, so we'll have 150 next fall and plan to use 110....

Maybe we'll add another 25 or 50 or so in a couple of years... kind of a "pay as we go" kinda thing....

So, yes, it's not a bad way to do it.... start small and see where it takes you.

Good Luck!
