My wonderful husband just surprised me with a three day trip to disney next week to get away and unwind, take pictures and people watch. I have always wanted to do this but now that it is a reality I am getting a bit nervous. Anyone have any suggestions for a first time solo trip?

Ride all your favorite rides, see your favorite shows, eat at your favorite restaurants, shop at your favorite stores, go at your own pace, and go with the flow...it's all about YOU and your likes. Enjoy a glass of wine and enjoy your whine-free time. :tinker:

I likw to do things I have never done before, for example on my last solo trip I made sure I did something new in each park, AK I wenr and saw FOTLK and loved it, DHS saw BEauty and the Beast on stage and loved it, MK met the fairies and at Epcot I did the new SE. So def do your fav's but try new things too you might normally skip.

I have gone solo to WDW many times; as a single woman I don't know if I would feel as comfortable any place else. (That said, use common sense to stay safe, be aware that petty theft seems to be increasing in these tough times, but you don't need to be paranoid about it.)

You will be surprised at the number of solo travellers there, and often we gravitate and strike up conversations.
You will see WDW in a whole new way; like spending the whole day at Japan in Epcot, or seeing the Lion King show 3 times in a row, if that is what you want to do.
Find a restaurant you never did go to before because it was not suitable for the family, and indulge yourself.
Next month, I'm going on Characters in Flight at DTD. There are several behind the scenes tours I am considering as well. Go the the Disney website and browse away!

Lastly, don't be guilty!!!! Have the best time!!!!

1. Have Fun
2. Enjoy being able to move around/squeeze through any crowds easily
3. Enjoy being able to change your mind for what you want to do on a whim
4. Enjoy not having to compromise and go on a ride/attraction that you don't want to go on or eat where you don't want to eat
5. Did I mention - have fun? :goodvibes:

I have gone Solo my last 2 trips to the World, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Some tips -

1) As a poster above me stated, try and do something new each time you go. The first time I went solo, I did ToT 5 times in a row, and when I came back, it was still fun, but not as exciting as the first day I rode it - so the last time I went I did RnRC.....probably about 8 times! If you have done all of the rides, check out a show for the first time - Flights of Wonder was a lot more fun than I thought it might be at AK, and Indian Jones at DHS wasn't as great as I hoped, but it still had that novelty "new" feeling to it.

2) I usually don't eat at the Full Service restaurants, but this trip I am going to do that Solo as well. The only downside (I think) will be at Crystal Palace and trying to get a great picture with the characters ----- but many people have told me to either ask a character attendant if they are there, or just ask a family next to you, and then take theirs!

3) If you like music (I play piano and do vocal direction for theater) then check out the Ragtime pianist by Casey's Corner, the Dapper Dans on Main Street, or enjoy the Trolley when it comes by with the Cast Members! Most times you can get rushed right through these things, so if you think you will like it, check it out.

4) I learned on the last day of my last trip - if I see a cast member at a kiosk selling something, then I just take 5 minutes, and strike up a conversation - and I ask them what is one thing in the park that they would love to do today - then I go and check it out, even if it something I don't think I would be that interested in! That's how I found about Birds of Flight and it was great!

5) Have an amazing time!

my solo splurge of a whole 7 hour day and $199 dollars is the backstage tour. i also plan to do the photo pass thing so i get some pictures of myself!

Ooooh, you are soooo lucky to be able to do a solo trip during Food and Wine Festival at Epcot!! This is my favorite time of year...check out some of the seminars, try some of the food at the booths, and then stay late for IllumiNations.

Thanks for all the replies. I never thought of conversations with cast members and getting suggestions from them.
I am sooo looking forward to the food and wine festival. My kids love it too but when we go as a family we just snack at it and then have a regular meal too. So I am looking forward to really indulging there.
I wouldn't have thought of the tours either. I can't do that with my kids there because I have one 16 year old that could go but now doesn't want to. (Marched with band in the parade and said she never wants to see backstage again for fear of losing more of the magic although she loved being in the parade.) I will check into that.
Thanks for the help!!!

You are so lucky to have such a thoughtful husband - mine lets me go once a year if we can afford it, but he doesn't understand how anyone could want to be alone at WDW (I think he's just jealous because he loves it there too!).
Anyhow, have a fabulous time - where are you staying??
I've done two solos and I actually enjoyed my longer seven day one than my first three day one, but I would take whatever I could get!
You'll love the F&W festival alone I'm sure - I loved touring the WS alone with no kids whining that there was nothing to do and nobody's pace but my own to make. I actually saw Voices of Liberty on my solo for the first time in many, many trips, and I watched every movie that any of the countries had to offer.
I also decided to do a TS meal and chose Cape May buffet at BC - it was wonderful and the CM's were very attentive and helpful when they knew I was solo.
Just the 'do your own thing at your own pace wherever you want whenever you want' mantra fits the solo trip and makes it the best. I still love my family time there to share things, but going solo just allows me to drink it all in and appreciate everything that Disney has to offer even more.
Enjoy and let us know what you did!:cloud9:

I have gone many times solo and many times with friends. They both are fun in their own way. The other posters are right though, when you are solo, you don't have to compromise on anything. Do exactly what you want; when you want!

I love to sleep in late and then read and lounge by the pool for a bit and relax. Then I go to the parks in the mid to late afternoon and stay until night. Wash and repeat! hehe I feel very safe at Disney, and it's very user friendly with the bus systems. I don't have to spend extra on renting a car.

I am going in a couple of weeks. I am excited! October is usually my favorite time of year to go there.

If you tend to be on the shy side, and want an easy way to start up a conversation, wear a shirt with your college or favorite team's logo. I spent a little time with a very nice family from my hometown, and we never would have made the connection if I hadn't been wearing an A&M t-shirt. I saw another Aggie and had a short conversation with him, and he said that the Genie from Alladin gave him the 'gig 'em' sign--so we now know that Genie is an Aggie. ;)
