Any Single Disney Men Out There?

Hi All,

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Coral Reef. It has a good atmosphere. The food is okay (used to be much better) but dining under the sea with the lights reflecting all over the room....no characters mugging you while you share your meals..

Artist Point is good for atmosphere but the food is cali hoyty toyty (reminds me of the brown derby). Last time I ate there I had to go to DTD for a giant sundae (not that I'm complaining).

Akershaus used to be really romantic for an all you can eat, but then again, they changed it to a character mugging.

Mexico can be romantic but it's the only restaurant on property I've had poor quality food at every time I ate there.

Le Cellieur is okay....it can be romantic, but the quality of the steaks are not where they should be for a steak house. I'd expect nothing less than top end choice or prime (you should be able to cut them with a fork) and I've had a few tussles with them. Being in the food business and a former meat cutter, maybe I have expectations that are too high, but I make better steaks on the grill at home.

As far as the swantz and dolpin go...I'll never set foot in those monstrosities. I think branded restaurants were a poor choice for Disney to go to. It takes the special experience out of the mix. Disney used to have the top rated restaurants in the Orlando area and now if you don't want to get mugged by characters, you're almost out of luck.

Sci FI? Puleeze.....the food is awful, served cold and they are always at least 30-45 minutes behind priority seating times. The only way I'd eat there would be if they showed a full movie. Prime Time is sooo mcuh better. Mama Melrose is a great option.

I'm not saying there aren't great places to eat on property, but the romantic ones are disappearing. France...yes...both places are very good. Germany...I love the atmosphere and the beer. China is even pretty nice, but they serve the food too fast..Japan....too bad it's not on the Dining plan. Narsocosee is very good. Liberty tree, O Hana's, Whispering Canyon's, Akershaus, Crystal Palace etc (characters) are good, but don't plan on an extended kiss. They target you for that. V&A'a is just a bit too pricy, but I guess if it was for a honeymoon you could shoot the wad. Flying Fish has great food but it's top $$$.

Eventually Disney will figure out that WE NEED a few good quality, romantic places to enjoy a quite dinner with out SO.

Well...enough of my Opinions...

yo mickeysbestfriend. aight dood, u never actually said wer the best place for KOBE beef is in orlando. could u divulge? also how do u cook a steak so that u can cut it with a fork? may i come to dinner?... :rotfl:

I googled kobe and it came up with 349,818 hits.

You can buy it on line or find places that sell it.

Is it worth $300 a pound? Only if you have more money than brains. I've had Kobe beef (I didn't pay for it) and beef from a ranch in Montana that was as good or better. Feed lot raised, corn fed Iowa beef is about as good as it gets and you can get a filet for around $15-21 a pound. Melts in your mouth.

How about a nice kimono dragon steak?

I guess I'll never be a high society snob...I prefer Lonestar steaks, throwing peanuts on the floor and a cold draft beer ;)

westie puppies westie puppies!

Ok I'm going to change the topic for a second... feel free to ignore me.. but a friend called me yesterday knowing I'm into animal rescue and while on a job yesterday met an older woman who had an accidental litter of pure westie pups.. placed 4, has 2 left.. was going to take them to the shelter.
I talked him into fostering (bwahaha).. I can't right now as my kitty is sick but guess who will be visiting her friend LOTS til I find them homes?

I guess they're only 10 weeks old and ADORABLE and TINY and for a temporary time.. they will be mine allllll mine bwahaha!

Like anyone could make better steaks than here in Texas... pshaw... :teeth:

MBF, I'll never be a high-society steak snob, either. I really can't afford to be, although I went to Shula's just to see if I could finish that porterhouse. There's a Shula's, a Mortons, an Engine 99 and a Ruth's Chris in Philly, so we have our share of high-end steak houses. They even claim to serve Kobe beef at Yamato, a Japanese restaurant in a strip mall a mile and a half from my townhouse. But give me Lone Star Steakhouse anytime--closer to home and less expensive.

Gina--I've never been to Texas, but I'd like to visit Amarillo and try to eat that four-and-a-half-pound slab of beef I've heard about. But I've found that most Texans to which I've spoken, are very friendly.

how can they call themselves KOBE if they dont have KOBE steak? on their website they say add $15 to a meal and they will change ur steak for a 6oz KOBE. Not happy now... all i wanted to do in orlando was three things:

eat a KOBE steak
fire a handgun at firing range
go on tower or terror.

I NEED KOBE steak, i been looking forward to that ever since i went with parents and they didnt let me get one.. mean parents.. ill always remember that.

So they dont do KOBE steak? where does it other than the ungodly expensive V&A's? actualyl how much is that place because i heard that the king would have to sell his mother to eat there. Say i wanted a KOBE meal with alcohol and my girl would want a lesser meal but still something nice? Would it be like $80-100 each?

OK so color me country...What is KOBE steak and why is it so expensive? :confused3

forgive me if i miss interpreted but are you calling me a SNOB because i want to TRY the worlds most expensive beef, i never said i wanted to box up tens cows worth and bring it to britain! sheesh!

Ok well in anyones opinion, where can i get ANY KIND OF STEAK in orlando which will 'melt in the mouth' so to speak? Lonestar?

oh and KOBE beef is from cows that are fed beans and rice, and masaged every day, and just before they are slaughtered they are fed beer and massaged some more. makes the fat like marble through the beef.

Anyway any advice on perfect orlando steak and where to buy it is appreciated.

Kobe is a place in Japan. They raise beef there that is pampered better than any spa on the planet. The cows basically never move. They are hand massaged several times a day by people you'd love to have their hands on you.

If you want to try them, you can buy it on line, but pretenders are out there everywhere claiming to be selling the authentic items. When is a Prada purse not a prada purse? When you can but it for less than $300.

I'm not knocking the meat, but you money would be just as well spent at a Lone Star steakhouse and you can eat there five to ten times for the same price.

BTW-Kobe Japanese steak houses are named after the city, not the beef.

Hey Jim you don't even have to travel to Amarillo for the 72 oz steak. www.bigtexan.com They'll ship that bad boy to you. Although, I'd recommend the visit to Texas. We love to have visitors. :thumbsup2

I wasn't calling you a snob, or anyone for that matter, I'm just a value (price/quality) oriented person. If I ever got rich enough to afford things like that....not sure if I could justify it even then :confused3 For some people it's probaby the same as me spending $500 on an original Disney cel. They don't see the value in that. I rarely (not never mind you) eat at a place because of the name on the building. Who is this Olive person and why does she invite everyone into her garden?

You will be hard pressed to find a good steak on property, but the Concourse Steakhouse is probably the best.

If you check Lone Star web site you can get the location of the closest one. I have eaten in them fifty times and never had a bad cut of meat. The sirloin is amazing...then you try the ribeye....then the filet...at it just gets better...

I can make better steaks....but then.....I know meat.....and I know cooking...and you'll nevr find anyone I have cooked for that would say different!

so a LONESTAR fillet steak would be very easy to cut and having it as medium rare will knock my socks off? if thats true then u just saved me a fortune (for the record yes i would have spent upto $100 to have a nice kobe steak - i wouldnt be eating anywhere near a POUND of it lol)

Thanks for the info, we should have a section for finding restaurants with certain food types and which has the best of each variety of food, thats would be great, but restaurant reviews can differ immensely. so would make it very difficult.

ps. mickey if ur so great at cooking steaks, can u please tell me how to cook a juicy steak to perfection, i usually bung it inthe frying pan and it tastes like rubber. (even when using filleted angus scotland steak)

Me too...I catered for years and we did some really tender steaks on the grill that I would venture to say would have made a top ten list. You didn't need a steak knife for these. And they cost a LOT less than 300 a pound. :thumbsup2

 :cheer2:

FINALLY...a mouseketeer!!!! Now maybe someday I will be TAGGED!

The only way to get a melt in your mouth steak is to buy a good cut, choice or higher, and cook it on a grill (charcoal is by far the best) at high heat 4-6 minutes a side depending on thickness. 1" is the minumum thickness you would want. Pan frying will never get you a tender steak. Anything more than medium is overcooked. The longer you cook them the more moisture evaporates and the tougher the meat becomes. A choice steak done well will be tough.

Angus (at least here in the US) isn't worth the name on the package. I worked with tons of ranchers in Montana. They all agreed it was nothing more than a 'name branding' program and that how the animal was raised and what it was fed determined the quality of the meat. Range beef can never be tender (naturally) because the animals get way too much exercise.

Okay then....back to romance....anyone ever skinny dip in the Seven Seas lagoon late at night?

Ummm, Cinrell, you've got the evil laugh on in this post, and I noticed the post number is 666...........coincidence? ;) :rotfl2: You'll place those Westie puppies in no time!

Guys, if I'm not mistaken, the cattle used for Kobe beef are massaged with beer. I'll have to do some research and get back to you.
