Any "room size" experts out there??

I had sent an e-mail to Disney questioning why POR trundle rooms can accomodate 5 yet other resorts with comparible rooms cannot. I wanted to know if room occupancy was set based on the state of Florida's fire codes or was Disney responsible for setting their own room occupancy limits.

I got a phone call from Disney and spoke with a very nice gentleman who tried his best to explain to me the room occupancy limits. He said that they do follow what is set by the state. He never really gave me an exact answer as to why POR trundle rooms can hold 5 and the non trundle rooms can only accomodate 4. He may have said that they were larger. I also thought CBR rooms were larger than POR rooms. He said POR trundle rooms are 15 square ft larger than CBR.

Is this true? I always thought that CBR had the biggest rooms of the moderates. Are the trundle rooms really larger than the non trundle rooms?

I have 3 children and my resort options become slimmer when my DD is 3. The options for a family of 5 to stay on site are much more expensive. I know many families who stay off site because they cannot afford to stay on site. Disney is considered to be a "family" vacation but yet they have much more economical accomodations for those who are childless or chose to have less than the average 2.5 children.

I don't expect things to change from one e-mail but I feel better that my voice was heard and that they called me back.

Does anyone know the exact room sizes and what the differences are?

Carribean Beach, as far as I know DOES have the largest rooms.

I know that Disney does have to follow state laws, but I have a feeling that state law allows for more than 4, but that's just my guess. I have NO clue if that's really the case.

I agree with the OP, I would like to know the true sizes of the rooms. Some web sites say the CBR has the largest rooms, other say it is POR. It seems every site is different--has different room sizesd listed. The people here seem to say that the CBR rooms are the larest mod. rooms, but those I really do not know. I wish someone would have the correct room sizes! It would help a lot of people out.

I've stayed in POR twice. Once in AB, in a room with a trundle bed, and once in MB, no trundle bed. I have to say that I really don't think there is a difference in room size. With the trundle pulled out, it is really a tight fit. If I had to travel with 3 kids, I would either go with two rooms at a value resort or splurge and go with a deluxe. My preference would be two at a value. The kids would love the actual resort and with two rooms, you have two bathrooms and some adult privacy at night. While CBR may have slightly larger rooms, I don't think it really matters as far as how many can be in a room. It's still 'officially' only 4. Now, I suppose you could bring an air mattress that would fit. But, 4 is the official limit everywhere at the values and mods, with the exception of POR-AB.

What is the policy on air mattresses in the resorts? We had one back in 1999 at POFQ- tight fit but worked. We just let the air out every morning and it was fine. The maids even propped it against the wall for us one morning when we didn't let it out- and even left sheets. I doubt they were supposed to do this- I guess we got lucky. It was our first family trip and we were in naive bliss- not thinking that the hotel might could kick us out for having too many people in the room. Could they? I don't see a problem with taking an air mattress for a third child- if you don't mind being cramped. But, the hotels may not allow it. Does anyone know the policy?

The resort has the largest rooms of all the moderate resorts at 340 sq ft. Each room has two double beds and sleeps 4. Some corner rooms have king sized beds. Limited room service is available. The Epcot Illuminations can be partially seen from the resort, and there are wonderful picnic nooks, courtyards, and hammocks spread throughout the grounds. Tip: Ask for a refurbished room.

Port Orleans Riverside Resort rooms are the standard 314sq ft for moderate resorts, and most rooms sleep four. Some of the Alligator Bayou rooms have the capacity to sleep five if the fifth person is small. Port Orleans Riverside offers pizza delivery to rooms. Transportation to all parks is via bus, and there are several stops throughout the Port Orleans Riverside Resort. For people who enjoy Downtown Disney, this is prime location.

So, if CBR rooms are indeed bigger than POR trundle rooms, you would assume Florida state laws would allow for 5 at CBR as well. I never understood this and still don't.

I wish I could get a real answer to who sets the room occupancy limits.

I think the resorts set the limits, not the fire code. Most disney resorts sleep 4--plus a baby under 3. The Universal resorts all sleep 5--even the HRH deluxe rooms which are over 365 sq ft and have bedding the room that sleeps 6 (2 queen beds and 1 fold out sofa). Universal also counts everyone in the room--even babies under 3.
It makes no sense why some of the bigger rooms would sleep less people than the smaller rooms.

I don't believe it's so much a question of room size, as a question of bedding that's provided. Yes, most of the moderates could 'squeeze' in an air mattress, thereby making it able to sleep 5. But, officially, only POR-AB provides bedding for 5. The deluxes would really be able to fit an air mattress or two. So, feasibly they could sleep up to 7!! As far as can you actually bring an air mattress? Don't know. I have seen on the boards that some people do it. It's just about what you are comfortable with.

I read somewhere that you can rent a cot at CBR. Why would you need a cot for 4 people? And if you can fit 2 double beds and a cot, why can't it sleep 5 people?
