Any restaraunt suggestion in New York City?

My parents are both native (Italian) New Yorkers & so I visit 2-3 times a year :goodvibes
Our city favorites include:
-Carmines: Italian family style, incredible food
-Junior's: supposedly their cheesecake is to die for! (I'm not a cheesecake fan but the food there is great)
-5 Napkin Burger: We ALWAYS go here. There's not a bad thing on the menu! :thumbsup2
-Katz: We went here last time after we decided that the Carnegie Deli was getting too expensive. It was super.
-Ellen's Stardust Diner: The food is only satisfactory, but the entertainment is worthwhile.

While themed restaurants liked Mars & Jekyll & Hyde have cool themes the food is nothing special.

Sadly enough, the best NY pizza is out on the island (LI) & the best steak & Italian restaurants are in Brooklyn. If you're willing to take the drive one night, I highly recommend Embers Steakhouse or New Corners restaurant in Brooklyn. Embers consistently serves excellent steak & New Corners has the best Italian food (coming from an Italian family).
The pizza in the city will range from okay-pretty good, depending on where you go. Just beware of bad chains or tourist-filled places that are no different than pizza anywhere else.

Have fun :cool1:

We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Becco on Restaurant Row for great Italian food, plus they have a $25 per bottle wine list!!!! The Veal Parm is to die for!!

We love Becco too! Every time we play tourist yo family or friends we go there. they have a pasta special that is reasonable. DS ate 17 pumpkin ravioli one time while there. (Apparently, college food wasn't up to par and he was thrilled with a good meal)

We went into the city last Saturday and DH wanted to go there post Mets/Phils game!

We love Balthazars for brunch. Delicious, and much more friendly than their sister restaurant Pastis. Carmine's is great. And when we bring our kids we love Ruby Foo's in Times Square for sushi. Enjoy!!! Russian Tea Room us fun for tea and a snack.

We're heading to NYC tomorrow for our anniversary. We're staying in Times Square. We were just there in Nov too. This week/end we're eating at Arnos (dinner), Sardis (dinner), Johns Pizzeria (lunch), and Ellen's Stardust Diner for breakfast-we love the entertainment, but it's really crowded and tight seating. We'll figure out the rest of the meals as we go along. The best pizza I have ever had in NY was in the South Bronx 30 years ago with DH's family, but John's is really good too. There's a lot of good food in NY. We've considered Becco, but not sure if we want to have that much Italian.

Last trip we ate at Guy Fieri's new restaurant and we really enjoyed it. We also stopped in a local bar/pub for lunch and it was good too. There's so many good places to eat in NY.

ok im am going to be the lone man out, i HATE 5 napkin. the burgers are greasy, the fries average, and they glutened me once by taking the burger off the bun, putting it back on the grill, and putting it on a GF bun. :scared1:

i am a huge fan of bareburger. a bit pricey for some but everything i had there is delicious. they have fantastic homemade pickles and i have heard their shakes are amazing.

for pizza in midtown i like don antonio. http://donantoniopizza.com/

ruby foos is a nice asian fusion mix and i like their decor, i think its a fun place for a kid and plenty to choose from.

for steak i like morton's and keens. http://www.keens.com/ keens has a lot of heritage which makes it different. im afraid i don't really know of any steakhouses that have great deals, most of the nice ones seem to be pricey.

for cupcakes check out baked by melissa, they have adorable mini ones that allow you to have a few flavors without filling up. financier is another dessert favorite.

for a quick lunch grand central has a great concourse with lots of nicer fast food options, so you may want to consider that one day.

NYC still has really good pizza. Don't know where you go on LI, but I would never leave the city.

I second the rec for Bareburger. Yum! Lots of interesting meat choices.

My favorite sushi place is Kodama on 44th and 8th. The eel is awesome. My favorite Thai is Yum Yum Bangkok on 9th and 46th.

16 Handles is great fro yo in fun flavors. Try the salted caramel. It's awesome.

That's where we are hoping to go one night when we visit NYC for the very first time in December :)

We love, love, love Becco, too!! Also big fans of Havana Central, in Times Square, for generous portions of reasonably-priced Cuban food.

We are not big fans of Carmine's. Don't get me wrong- the food is terrific- but there are usually only two or three of us. We spend $$$ for one antipasto dish and one main dish. That's all you need for 3 people, so make sure you are all happy eating the same thing. I think Carmine's is best for a big party- six minimum.

Esca is awesome. Maze is also really good. There's a place in chinatown, I think it's Hop Kee. It's really good as well. The Scandinavia House is good as well. There's so many great places.

I wouldn't waste time with a sit down breakfast. Get bagels from all deli for a dollar-- there's nothing like NYC bagels!

S'Mac is delicious, but I prefer Mac Bar (corner of Prince & Lafayette). Their shroom mac is to die for! Seating is awful, though.

My favorite pizza place in the world is Waldy's, on 6th ave between 27th & 28th streets. (Walking distance from the Empire State Building/Macy's). It's super thin-crust and it's the typical fold-it-and-eat. It's amazing.
