We got home from our 1st DVC stay a few days ago and I'm miserable because we brought back bed bugs! I'm hoping that they came from the HoJo in Florence SC where we stayed overnight on our 20 hr drive home. I hate to think that they could have come from Kidani because that would mean treating 4 suitcases, and because it's icky to think of DVC properties having bedbugs. As for the HoJo we can always avoid it on future trips and we only brought 1 suitcase in with us.

Oh no! I'm sorry :(. There have been no recent reports of bed bugs, but all levels of hotels get them. I think I would probably treat all suitcases as suspect since you're not really sure where they came from.

Yikes--when you said "treat all suitcases as suspect" I realized that the suitcase we brought into HoJo was sitting on top of the other suitcases in the trunk for 14 hours :scared1:

Someone posted how the parking lot views at Jambo House have mice...

So perhaps Kidani has bedbugs.

But my guess is HOJO :thumbsup2

If you inspect one of the other suitcases let us know what you find.

I wonder why the mice don't like the Savannah Views, too many points? :rotfl2:

Anyway, we are just back from Kidani and BLT and did not notice any pests at either. Though we did see a huge flock of birds invade the upper level balconies at BLT.

Unfortunaterly the Hotel Associations from around the country are reporting this to be a very bad year for bed bugs. :scared1::scared1:
That is how it happens, someone stays somewhere that has or has had bedbugs and then stays at another hotel. I know a hotel owner who refuses guests who call them in the middle of the night begging for a room as the one they have has bed bugs. He will not take them because they may bring them with them and he feels awful doing that.
Mattresses can be brand new or covered, but they can still be in the rugs, curtains, etc. They tend to move towards beds as they are attracted to our hot blood. Gross!
We travel a lot and been lucky not to expereince them in our travels. We think someone like Disney would never get them, but people do bring them from other places.
To OP - how do you "treat" luggage? I know that if I had a clue I was around those bugs I would not even bring those suitcases into the house when we got home.

I didn't realize that some of my bites were probably bed bug bites and not mosquito bites (there were lots of mosquitoes at the HoJo pool) til we'd been home for 24 hours and the luggage was already in the house.

As for treating suitcases--everything gets emptied into the washer and washed in hot water or into the dryer and dried on high for 15 minutes. The bags are rolling duffels--they get vacuumed, and 2 of the smaller ones fit in the dryer, I haven't tried the biggest one yet.

The good news is that DH and the kids don't seem to have any bites.
