I'm thinking of getting this for my DSis. (I could use it too!). She has a PC.

So I'm looking for one that doesn't break the bank and works well. Basically this will be used to convert 100's of hours of VHS to DVD to save them.

Anyone have one they really like? Also, if you have one that you hate, please let me know that as well.

TIA

6 days until Christmas!:santa:

I've never heard of software that converts VHS to DVD. I guess you'd have to find a way to hook up your VHS to your computer and be able to play it back(??) Is there such a cable?

There are machines that do it. QVC has a simple one for under $200. Not sure what it's called, but you could probably go over there and look.

There are some software programs out there ( I looked on Amazon) and yes it looks like you basically do hook it up to your computer and then copy the tape into your computer.

So I'm hoping someone on these boards has had some experience with some of them. The review I read so far are okay at best.

Unfortunately $200 is just too much over this years budget. However, if I don't find one for Christmas maybe my DM and DSis and I can go together one something like the one from QVC or HSN for her birthday, Feb. 1.

I have a program that we've had a couple years--it works great, but it copies in real time. http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Dazzle/

You have to play the entire VHS and copy it that way. I'm sure there are others that are better since we got this, but it does make good copies. And you can edit as you go if you want. I haven't used it much, but DH has. I have more to do--that's part of my winter project list.

ETA--this is the old one that we have http://www.amazon.com/Dazzle-DVD-Re..._1_4?s=software&ie=UTF8&qid=1292795012&sr=1-4

I have used the machine where you play the tape and it burns the disc. Quality is iffy. Some come out great some very poor. I did also have some issues with protected tapes and could not burn them. I think that hooking the vcr to the computer would be better quality. That is my next quest. I also have many home movies and hate to pay the $$ to have them put on a disc but do not think there is any otehr way. :confused3
