My dufus son just told me he has lost his license. We leave for WDW flying in less than 3 weeks!! We're going today to replace his license, but very doubtful the permanent one will come in before our trip.

The temporary license is paper and does have a picture on it, but should we bring something else??

Geez, as they say raising teenagers is like trying to nail Jello to a tree!!! :rolleyes2

I thought if children were under 18 they didn't need a photo id for airport security?

We always carry birth certificates for kids & ourselves as secondary form of id. Always take a 2nd photo id card for adults (sam's, etc.) that we keep sep. from DL, just in case they disappear while on vacation.

He is 18 (almost 19). And the time my boys flew when they were 14 & 15 respectively, we got a raised eyebrow from TSA that they were under 18. (Had not gotten 15yo his permit yet). (They have been over 6' from the time they were 13). So after that flight we made sure they had picture ID for the next one.

So it is just frustrating that he lose his one picture ID at the last minute like this. I guess I could add him to my Sam's membership which creates a picture card immediately.

I know what you mean. We have a niece age 14 that travels with us. Well she does not look 14, and they ask everytime. She now has a passport so we don't worry about that issue.
I would check and see if they could express (at additional cost I'm sure) your sons new license. They may have another solution as well. I would think the temporary license w/ picture would work. Take along his birth certificate too, if you don't get the new permanent one in time.

Did you mean to write that the temporary license does or does not have a picture on it? If it does have a picture, I assume it would be fine.

This makes me glad that the State of Illinois issues permanent licenses instantly (or as instantly as a Department of Motor Vehicles does anything).

I assume he doesn't have a passport. Otherwise that would be perfect.

It DOES have a picture, but is paper, and honestly if anyone tried even half heartedly enough, any personal PC in the world could recreate it. I'm not too worried about getting TO the vacation as the local TSA agents will recognize it for what it is, but getting home, the MCO TSA agents probably havn't seen too many Alabama temporary licenses.

I am from Alabama as well, and did fly with a temporary license (can't remember where). I did have my old license, too, because I just renewed mine, and here in Alabama they let you keep the old one. They didn't seem to care about the old one. For the person that suggested asking them to see if they can put a "rush" on the license.........that's a joke in Alabama! :teeth: They love taking their time with things here it seems. :lmao: I think it took me between 3 and 4 weeks to get my license. I would just call the airline and ask them if the temporary license will be ok, or what else could take its place. I'm sure that you could get a passport for him if you needed to and that would work. Good luck from another Alabamian! :thumbsup2
