Any recent accounts of using kid swap?

About a month or two ago, there were reports of certain rides that people were saying the entire party had to have a FP before getting a kid swap.

Just wanting to know if people are still finding this the same. Has it spread across the board?

We made FPs a month ago and for most rides we made them for the whole party. Including for my pregnant DIL who may not be in the park with us (or should even ride). Can the CM see that she isn't there? Depending on how she feels, she may only spend a few hours in the park. I'd hate to lose a kid swap because DIL needed a resort break and the CM says everyone has to be there.

I'm not saying we use her FP, just saying if the CM says the whole party needs it, but the whole party isn't there.

This hasn't been my experience recently. At most, they ask you where the other members of your party are so they can verify you aren't lying about needing a kid swap but not that they need a fast pass. Half the time they don't even ask though.

You definitely do NOT need everyone in your party to be there in order to use your FP. However, be aware that if your DIL does not scan into the park and then you try to use her MB for FP, that will be an issue. But her not being there to use her FP is no problem.

As far as kid swap, I haven't heard any recent reports of everyone in the group needing FP.

I've never heard of them saying that your entire party needs a FP.

There have been reports on here of it happening on FOP and SDMT specifically.

I'm aware of those two in the fact that they may ask where the other member of your party is (I've never been asked on 7DMT), but I've never heard of them saying that everyone needs a FP. Obviously I'm only one person and we all have different experiences

I haven’t personally used Rider Swap any time recently but I saw the same reports you did and I think you misunderstood. In the past the adult staying behind with too small child was not required to show they had a FP if the rest of their party was using their FP in conjunction with rider swap. This basically allowed a loophole where people would essentially split their fast pass selections in order to obtain more than 3 initial FP for top rides or to circumvent the tiering systems at some of the parks. At a least a few recent reports suggested that people were not being allowed to use the FP lane to obtain rider swap passes unless everyone (meaning all those those entering the FP line as well as the adult staying back with the small child) had a FP. If your pregnant DIL is not with you she would not be considered part of your group for rider swap-another adult would be the one staying behind with the too small child and that person would be the one who would need to show they had a FP. Again this is all based on some recent reports as previously this was not enforced.

Yes I understand that. I believe OP was asking about both situations - a) when DIL is WITH group, do they all need FP (loophole situation described) and b) when DIL is NOT WITH group, is it an issue. I was trying to address both in my response.

The rider swap ticket does not need to be used on the same day and is usually valid until end of the month. So it doesnt make sense that a waiting adult needs to prove they have a FP.

In case someone needs it, you can check out this graphical part I came up explaining child swap. https://www.disboards.com/threads/rider-swap-graphically-explained.3606277/

It depends on the ride. There is an increasing trend of same day ride swap. FOP was the first to do it and now both 7DMT and BTMRR are same day ride swap.

Just making sure you know, there have recently been reports of them giving rider swap passes that have a same day expiration - not end of month like before. This does not appear to be widespread at the moment, but it’s out there.

Really there are good points with both ways. In some ways it's better just to get back on the ride again, rather that walking away and hope you get back to that area.

I can see if we had a couple of same day kid swap, DIL, 2 yr old, DH (AKA grandpa) goes back to resort and DS and I take the 6 yr old again.

Last trip we came home with a few because the choice was go swimming instead of hitting the mountains at MK.

But back to the original question, in addition to the above, does everyone in the group need a FP to obtain a Rider Swap? I have never used it but I'm giving advice to someone who is planning a trip that will need to use it and wanted to be sure to give them the most current info. I had just came here to start a search and saw this post.
I'm going to just stick with telling them to plan to use their Rider Swap that day but what about booking their initial FP. Do they need to go ahead and book FP for everyone for all rides? How do they even check that if they aren't planning on the 2nd group riding till later in the day?

We went beginning of March and everyone in our group was NOT required to scan MB when using a FP and asking for rider switch. RS pass for 7dmt and FoP was good for same day only. All the others were valid thru end of month. (We did not get one for btmrr)

Thanks. It does seem odd to require everyone to scan their MB at the time you get the Rider Swap since that counts them for the FP but then they don't enter the line at that time.

It’s funny, despite having young kids, we’ve never been a prolific rider swap user - so I’m not qualified at all to answer. When we have done it, we’ve both had FPs. Others will explain different methods.

I know more about closing rider swap threads that turn into argumentative philosophic debates than I know about actually using it myself. :rotfl:

Haha! We have used it a lot with our 4 littles and while I love that Disney offers it i also look forward to the day when our entire family can actually ride a coaster together! And the time it takes to use RS and trying to keep the baby entertained the whole time can be hectic!

Yes, I was almost afraid to start a thread. At least I didn't ask about which strollers are best while pool hopping.:p

I'm just trying to plan the best I can. We have a 2 yr old, 6 yr old, 7 month pregnant DIL, DS, me (62) and DH (73) who uses a wheelchair at disney. Some rides, DIL can't ride and some rides DH can't ride due to knees don't bend like they use to.

We've never used it but my friend is going with a 6 yo who is tall enough for every Disney ride and a 2 yo and I'm at a loss as to tell them how to do their FP. Hoping Mom can do rides with the little one while Dad does with the older one but then Mom would like to be able to ride with the 6 yo for a few of the coasters too. So wanted to direct them to use Rider Swap for those.
