My two girls are very, very exited to be going to American Girl for thier first time this Thurs. for my youngests dd's 7th bday. Is there a place to park that wouldn't be too outragious? The address is, "609 Fifth Avenue at 49th Street".
Thanks for any advice.

I suppose it depends on how far away you are willing to park. The farther east or west you go, generally the cheaper the parking is. I think that http://www.iconparking.com/ can help you figure out a rough idea of parking.

Enjoy!

AG will validate your parking. The parking garage is only around the corner. Less than a 10 min. walk. We paid 30.00 to park there.

Thanks everyone for such fast and very useful replies. Those web sites are great. I found places from $15 (far far walk) to $35 (close). I"ll call up AG about which garages might validate parking, I didn't see anything useful on the website.

The garage that validates is @ 48th & fifth. It used to be Icon parking but is now Central Parking Systems(they changed ownership). I use them all the time and all day parking with the discount is around $32.00 last month.

Thank you belleprincessbelle. I just called AG and they told me the address but didn't tell me the name of the garage or the price. I didn't want to get there to find out I'd have to pay $60 for the day.

There are parking meters on the streets.

Yes, but in that area, she will not be able to get one. Most of the spots are for commercial parking during the day.

If you look around online, sometimes you can find a parking coupon. We just drove into the city a few weeks ago and found a place not too far away that runs coupons. Just make sure that you check the coupons for restrictions on hours and days. The Icon parking coupon on their site is only good after 5 or 6, I think.

If you were going on a Sunday, then alot of the garages you can pay like $10-12 for a full day.

Thursdays during the day can be tricky. To pay in the $30s would probably be typical. Just take a look at the sign before you enter so you know what you are getting into. I think once you go west of 6th or 7th the rates drop too.

Maybe call AG and get the exact name and pricing information and phone number for the garage that they discount for. That may end up being your best bet, particularly if you are not familiar with the area.

Are you going into the city just to go to AG? Then another option you may want to consider parking just outside the city and take the subway or LIRR in. The cost of the train ride plus a taxi (if you need it) may be much less than paying for a parking lot.

I really don't want to do the train because the last show is over too late don't feel like bothering that late with two kids.

I rarely get lucky enough to get a meter that works out for us.

MickeyMama-I did call AG and they couldn't give me the name nor how much., but they gave me the address.

The parking lot that AGP validates is literally across 5th and 1/4 down on 48th - it will take you about 3 minutes.

I often go to AGPNY and I always park there since it's just much easier than changing trains at Penn Station coming in from Jersey. The longest thing that will take you is waiting for them to take your car, the last time we drove in was on a Friday and I waited about 15 minutes to get into the garage.

Have a great time! We'll be there on March 18th for my youngest DD 7th birthday party - I'm definitely going to need a Mimosa or two with lunch :lmao: since there will be other 6 & 7 year olds - the saving grace is that so will their Moms!

Mimosa's sound real good:drinking1

I have one more question:
How long should I allow for shopping and looking around. We have a dinner 5:30 at the cafe, followed by the late AG show (7:00 or 7:30pm). Should I get there at 1:00, 2:00, or 3:00? We are buying dolls, clothes, etc., want to do photo too.

I would plan on getting at 3:00 pm that way you'll beat the rush hour traffic and two hours shopping should be plenty of time!!!!!

I hope that you all have a fabulous time- my girls loved it!! One thing if you have a tall SUV you may not fit in many of the parking garages. Just something I found out the hard way.:) Again have fun!!:)

I know what you mean. I hate managing the trains with my little ones in tow.

Annoying that the didn't give out the garage information. Hopefully the one right there will work out just fine for you.

It sounds like a really fun day for you and the girls! Come back and tell us how it was. Wishing you no rain for tomorrow! :wizard:

We are going to NYC on Saturday for DD's 5th b-day. We are taking her to see Mary Poppins. Should we take her to AG also? She got Kit for Christmas and she's been in her coffin, I mean box since.

The store may tempt her into getting her out of her box :) or she may want to get all the stuff for Bitty Baby. That's what happened the first time we took our girls - my eldest had just gotten Samantha and my youngest (almost 5 at the time) fell in love and wanted everything for Bitty Baby since her sister was getting lots of stuff for Samantha. She really didn't get into the bigger dolls until this past year and now it's an obssession!

Now for her upcoming 7th birthday she wants more dolls (already has Jess' World) in this order she says 1. Josefina, 2. Felicity & 3. Kaya. My 9 yo wants Emily & Felicity and she already has Samantha & Molly - yep, I'll be getting AG for quite a few years!

alwayseoryre,
We went to Mary Poppins in Nov and we all loved it!! My DD5 was in awe. Just a tip. Make sure you get to the theatre on time or a little early as they have these cushions for the little ones to sit on so they can see and they don't have a whole lot of them. My sister luckily grabbed one of the last ones for my DD.
Enjoy the show. I loved it. So magical.

Thanks for the tip. This will be her 1st play so I'm so excited. She wants to see Wicked next. Any suggestions on where to eat. I was thinking Johns pizzeria on Broadway.

We ate at a asian fusion restaurant near times square. It was good, but found the waitress a little pushy. I can't think if the name right now. We are going to Wicked in May:cool1: . We are hoping to go to Ellens Stardust Diner then. We have heard good things about that.
