Any Reason to NOT Rent Car @ MCO Through UK Site??

It appears that I can rent a car right now via Expedia's UK site for an Oct trip for a very acceptable price. When pounds are converted to $$ it's $262 for 9 + days and even if I assume a 3% credit card fee for a foreign transaction it's still good. It also appears that insurance, tax etc are included in that price. What am I missing? I discovered this on the Oct Rental thread and I didn't want to hijack that so here's my query. Also, free cancellation, so what's the catch?

Thanks for any info offered,

Bill, most of the time the rentals that include insurance are meant for international guests. There have been some threads regarding the vroom vroom also. One theory is that the insurance is not valid for U.S. guests and if there is an accident, all insurances will deny coverage.

My insurance guy assures me that any car I drive will be covered, I just don't get why Alamo, on their site will charge $327 while the Expedia UK site charges 179 pounds which, according to Google is $263. When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Bill, this is a quote of what I was told on a different thread. I decided it wasn't worth the risk. There was also information about personal insurance not covering if there is insurance provided with the rental. You may feel differently, or your insurance company may be willing to guarantee coverage.

In order for your Credit Cards coverage to kick in, you are required to Decline the CDW from the rental car company.
If the code that you use automatically includes CDW then your CC coverage will not kick in.
And unfortunately, if you are not eligible to use the discount code that includes the CDW and you have an accident, both the rental company and the CC company are going to wash there hads of it and you will be stuck paying for any repairs to both vehicles involved. And heaven forbid there isn't any negligence assessed as you may also have no coverage if you are sued for personal injury or death.

Thanks for the input, I will get back to my insurance provider to be sure I'm covered regardless of the rental circumstances as I was led to believe. In my early days of renting cars I would take a copy of my insurance with me to stifle the hard sell at the rental counter and my understanding is that my coverage extended to any vehicle I operated. If you loaned me your car and I crashed it, it would be covered. The insurance thing is an issue I hadn't considered. That aside, what baffles me is why Alamo, or any other rental company, would offer a much lower rate via a UK site as opposed to the American one.

I know it is is frustrating. The vroom vroom code brought holiday rentals down to reasonable levels, but when I checked with Alamo, I was told it was for UK drivers. Some people have skirted that by checking in online in advance and then going straight to the car, but nobody has been able to verify what happens if there is accident/damage.

We decided that we would go with the Dollar City Special that was a great deal for a full-size car ($126) for Easter week, rather than the $211 vroom vroom code for an SUV. We would prefer a larger vehicle, but it wasn't worth the possible risks.

That is one thing that makes the vroom vroom code so frustrating. You can book it on the U.S. site and as a "member," they have our U.S. driver's license info and still allow you to book it.

This pretty much seals it for me, the last thing I need on a WDW vacation is a hassle at the start. I'll keep an eye on this but if this is in the language, and I don't doubt that it is, I'll just keep hunting on US sites.

Bill, I did find a code for midsize SUV and posted it on the April rental thread. Here it is:

I just found the following new code for Dollar on Mousesavers:

"Use promo code AJKRQ at Dollar to get a Midsize SUV rental for $199.99/week. Offer available for pickups 4/5/15 – 6/15/15 at participating US locations." It gave me $271 for a Midsize SUV for a week with all taxes, etc. Not a great rate, but better than what some have been seeing.

Thanks for that, we're there form Oct 29 to Nov 7, when I put that in the Dollar site it came back 'Invalid Promotion Code'. It's a little early to get a good rate for late Fall.

If you are set on Alamo, as I am, keep on watching your rates. I am going in June and first booked in December. I think I have rebooked about 6 times and have a ressie for about half of my initial booking. In fact, my initial booking had a Rental Car Momma code and my current ressie only has the Insider's discount. I found that most of the rate drops occurred mid-week (possibly Tuesdays).
