Any other Steely Dan fans here?

Heard Aja again last night. I get into spells where I just can't listen to enough of "the Dan". Great music.

I went through a Steely Dan spell when I was in college. God, I spent a whole semester playing it over and over again. Can't say I ever got into Aja, but I did have a double album greatest hits that was just wonderful. So far, I haven't been "bitten" again, but I just love certain songs (Boddhisatva is a favorite).

I prefer SD when they rock instead of performing their pseudo-jazz shuffle, which means I'll take Countdown to Ecstacy over Aja; but both are fine, fine records. Their only dull one is Gaucho, and even that has a few gems.

Just kidding! They are a great group! I saw them about 4 years ago, and we had a great time! I didn't know for years how much of their music I enjoyed, because I seldomly know who sings/plays what.

Aja was one of those albums that got a lot of use when auditioning stereo equipment prior to purchase. The production was super clean and the dynamic range really exercised components.

A Who's Who of excellent musicians contributed to the Steely Dan sound. Liner notes made for interesting reading to see who played what.

Now I'm nostalgic for vinyl!!!

Not a huge fan but they went to my High School! Annadale Hs in Annandale VA (close to DC) They mention the name in the one song...brain freeze right now but we played it at almost every school event!!!

Is the title of the song, "My Old School"? That's in a line in the chorus anyway!

Aja is one of my all-time favorites.

And, I put the "FM" soundtrack on my Christmas list (didn't get it!) because I had "FM" stuck in my head for awhile last fall!

Steely Dan is a big part of the soundtrack of my high school years!

They are one of the bands I first remember hearing as a kid. Either on our AM only radio in the car or on the jukebox in our favorite pizza place.

I have a hard time listening to any single album of theirs because IMO so many songs miss the mark. I do love my 2 disc Best of collection though.

They did some great songs, really great songs. My favorite has always been "Josie".

Saw them live in 72 or 73. They opened for the Doobie Brothers. They came out and all sat on stools and just played (and I mean played). No jumping around. No guitar solo angst. They just played. Some of the crowd didn't "get it" but it was a great concert!
