Do you have to have the certification to be able to do this or can you still get jobs just signing up at the various sites?

I tried a few of the websites and I got a message that the ardent site was not safe and a potential scammer???

Ardent's certificate expired in November 2011...not sure if that means the site is no longer safe??

Yea I noticed that too. Have had no issues with them since signing up though. I can give you the owners email address if you like though, she was the one I talked to about posting up her company's info on the site.

I currently mystery shop at leisure. I thought about doing so on vacation once, but I didn't want to deal with the 24 hour report turnaround while on vacation. Once I got there, I was really glad that I didn't sign up for any shops.

Means that Verisign has not updated there PKI for encryption-since its only been about 7 or 8 weeks it may just be lag time. Site is probably still safe but the may not have encryption for secure transactions

No, you do not have to have the certification. It just gives you priority access to some jobs. Gold certification gives even more priority access and some jobs require that you have gold certification.

Based on my experience, the schedulers don't really weigh that much on the certificates. They more look at your past record to see if you flaked on any shops and how well your reports were written. It also helps if you pick up some the shops that nobody wants as it looks good on your profile. True there are some shops that require the gold certificate, but those are far and few between.
