Just wondering if any others are planning on the DIS Unplugged Cruise on 5/10/09? There are already over 200 people from the DISboards going and I think it's going to be great fun. Group rates, credits, plus an excellent offer at the Dolphin Hotel @ $99 night for pre/post cruise stays (for those of us that never have enough DVC points!). Here's a link to the cruise thread:

Are you supposed to let DCL know you are a DVC member, or do they automatically check? We haven't been on a Disney cruise since we bought our membership and I'm very interested to see what kind of incentives they might have for buying more points while onboard.

I would love to go, but I just don't think I can work it out. I already told my DH we were going to DL next year. I also had already talked him into a November cruise before they announced the Podcast cruise.

From what I heard they will know that you are DVC. If they don't know you can go to the desk and tell them. You will get the invitation to the event. I have also heard to magnets and in room gifts. I think it is not very consistant. Some people get nothing other people get lots.

Thanks spaddy! Sorry you can't make it on the cruise but I'm sure you'll have a blast on the one you already had planned. We're actually headed to DL a week from today...can't wait!!!

Sometimes the Podcast makes me sad. I wanted to go so bad and listening makes me sad. I am a sucker for "free" in room stuff. I still have a chance because I actually just talked my husband into going to DL this May. I think if he really loves the cruise in November I will have a chance. Of course, it is possible the cruise will be sold out by then.

Have fun in DL. I will be there shortly after you.

For those considering this, let me just tell you that you can't use points for this cruise and participate in the DisUnplugged Event. It can only be booked thru DU, so just be sure you are aware of this before you plan for the cruise.

Well, considering the fact that DU is sponsoring the event and paying for the group activities it should come as no surprise that it needs to be booked thru them.

But you are correct, this cannot be booked thru member services with points and still qualify to be part of the group. However at least it's not during hurricane season and the rates are slightly better than the previous member cruises.

Can the cruise be booked on-board, then transferred to DU? We're going on a cruise in June, and debating rebooking - I might be able to talk my husband into this one - he's a DISser too!

Yes it can! You just need to transfer to DU (this would also work if booking directly thru DCL via phone or online as well). I think they may even have a standard form they provide to take care of the transfer. So definitely take advantage of any booking incentives you can earn onboard (plus I think you would also get the DU onboard credits as well).

My sister and I are going to come - we just made our deposit! I am so excited! :cheer2:

Yay thanks! I think that ADP is also going and he is a DVC member. I am looking forward to meeting everyone.

Be sure and let Tracy @ DU know if you want to be included in the roll call we have going on the thread I have linked in the first post.

Also, for any of you that have never listened to the podcast...give it a try! They are very informative and entertaining, plus there have already been four of these cruises given away (with more to come!). :thumbsup2

It looks like 2 Fishers, IN residents will be there  . We've already paid our deposit and plan on being there. DD9 (at time of cruise), DW, and I are looking forward to it. :yay:

Hey Caroline --- Maybe we can go door to door and recruite other local residents. :rotfl: I can't believe the number of DISers already signed up. We may fill the boat.

Next trip to WDW 4/3 2008 - AKL & OKW

I see you are bringing your dd - I struggled with that but decided to leave her in school as 7th grade is going to be hard. She is not speaking to me over the issue! ;) So I am bringing my sister - she lives in Noblesville, not too far from Fishers!

I just checked the INDY Dis meet thread and saw that it was last weekend - darn I missed it!!!! Maybe we can have a mini-meet on the boat! That would be fun to have the whole boat filled with DISers though!

I struggled (still struggling) with the issue too. I'm still not 100% convinced, but what kind of helped me is the fact the cruise is 2 to 3 weeks from the end of the school year. The last day in 2009 for HSE is May 28th with a flex day and Memorial Day sandwiched in between. I figure as long as she is doing well it should not be an issue to make up the work especially during the flex day and Memorial day. I also understand there is a big difference between 3rd grade and 7th grade.

I'm hopeful we can plan another Indy meet around Labor Day weekend this year. Who knows, I may get the ambition to actually start planning it.

School is a big concern of mine as well. I have an 8th grader and sophomore that I'm pulling out for the whole week. I'm hoping to meet with their counselors at the beginning of the semester to get the ball rolling to have them make up the work they missed either before or after the cruise. They both get really good grades and are very well-behaved, so I'm hoping it won't be that big a deal. Fingers crossed!!!

Well, I HAD this booked...but then had to cancel:(

Who knows, I may re book...just worried about DD11 and school....we pulled our kids out in Feb for a cruise....it did affect their schooling a bit....however...it was more the teachers. I really think Dd11's teachers has a Disney Envy thing with me! lol
next year, new teacher!!
The pluse side....its MAY...the school year is almost over for us....4 days should not make or break her grades!!

My plans were for me, DD11 who will be 12...and my little DD who will be almost 3!

Maybe you should have just held onto the reservation for awhile longer. The final payment wouldn't be due until way into the next school year -- maybe DD would have a more "Disney-friendly" teacher?
