Well haven't posted in a while because dh and I have been crazy busy with our adoption of a beautiful little girl from China

Just wondering if any other DIS's have adopted internationally.

Thanks Micheme

nnnb ( dear daughter 2 wrote that for you)

and we are GLAD we did

Not an international adoptive family here, but adoptive we are, MANY moons ago. Congratulations to you, Micheme, and everyone. ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo :wave2:

Our three children are adopted, but not internationally.

BTW, Congratulations! I am thrilled for you!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_5_2v.gif' border=0></a>

Our two are from Russia. They are the light of our lives!

Congratulations on starting your family!

Congratulations. Our DD is from China as well. She is the most precious gift we have ever received.

Both of our children are adopted, but both were domestic adoptions. Good luck with yours. It was the best thing we ever did!

Congrats! We did not adopt, but have a foster son that we added to our family.

Not personally, but we have an almost-5 year old nephew/cousin from Korea!

Congratulations to you and your family with the addition of your daughter, Mom! :)

What a gift for both you and your special child(dren)! :grouphug:

Slightly off topic rant here - We only wish we could formally adopt Isabella so we could be sure we'd always be able to protect her. Right now we're her legal guardians but either of her convicted felon bio parents can petition the court every twelve months to reinstate their parental guardianship! We'll have this hanging over our heads for the next 12 years. No child should live in limbo!

Sorry, back on topic - I heard this morning that Scott Simon (host of Weekend Edition Saturday with Scott Simon on NPR), my favorite radio voice, will be off for the next 4 weeks "on assignment". He said he and his wife are heading to China to pick up their new daughter! :teeth:

I'll do an OT rant with you! Sometimes the system really stinks! I think if you mess up big time as a parent, then you lose your rights. I think if you abuse children sexually you should be put in jail for the rest of your life, no questions. Bye, bye perverts FOREVER! If you can hurt a child I don't care what happens to you for the rest of your wasted life. (BTW, my children were both adopted at birth and didn't have those problems. I just have no compassion for people that hurt children in any way.)

From your keyboard to the child welfare and justice system's ear! Thanks kpgclark, nice to know there are people who agree that children have rights that supersede their 'parents'. Isabella's bio mom thinks she has "special rights" because she gave birth to her. Nope, every child has a right to safety and security. Every parent has an OBLIGATION to provide them.

Okay - now back to our regularly scheduled topic!

We are adoptive parents also , although not internationally. We went through a termanation of parental rights battle with the bio Mom, but the bio Dad agreed to it. It was quite a battle and a lot of emotions to go through for almost two years! We had to do what was right for our Daughter!:sunny:

Our DDs were born in Colombia. We adopted them when they were two months old. Melinda is 15 and born on Christmas Eve and Lora will be 13 on March 31 and she was born on Easter. They are wonderful!

We have been so blessed!!:D :D

I'll speak to your OT rant, too. My children were taken from their bio parents after they were warned by the Russian govt several (3) times that they had to give up the vodka or they'd lose their children. The parents didn't stop drinking and therefore, 7 children were taken out of their home... the squalor that was described should have been enough without the bottle to take the kids away. Anyway, I respect that govt for having the guts to do what is right for those kids. I wish our govt would do the same.

Now, then again, once they take the kids they put them in orphanages that are minimally funded. That's not a good thing, but there are people who want these kids, and most of them are from outside of the Russian Federation. Most regions don't make it difficult for non-Russians to adopt these kids. And, then there is the best part... no one can ever come back to us and claim that they have more of a right to raise our children than us. That is comforting to us.

DH and I had chosen to adopt from China, then DS was almost
literally dropped in our laps so we knew what was meant for
us. There are lots of happy families born from adoption here
on the DIS! Congrats and welcome to your daughter!

We adopted internationally, we've been home 10 days with our 4 year old.

Your DS is beautiful, Kim! Congratulations!

What is his name?

He is just so darn handsome!

Your two most important words right now, aside from nyet and da, are potom (poe-tome) and see chas. They mean later (potom) and now (see chas.) For a long time, I didn't know how to say "now" in Russian, so I'd say, "ne potom." (Not later.) It got my point across. Well, and of course, "ya loobleeoo tibya." "I love you."
