Beth, Good luck with the IUI!! :goodvibes I have an appt with my gyn on Dec 6th, so I'm going to at least wait until then and see what she says and then go from there. I really think the screw up came when I had to see someone other than my normal GP for my 6 week followup for the insulin issue. He was worthless and I know my normal GP would have done/said more. I will definitely push the issue of getting the ball rolling with my gyn.

FirstTimer...welcome to our thread!! I'm so sorry you have suffered so many losses in the past. I can't even imagine the pain. I haven't had the losses that you have had, but I also have a 4 year old DS and I've been TTC #2 for almost 1.5 years. I have also been diagnosed with insulin resistance, which according to one doctor is mild. I'm not on any meds yet, either...just diet and exercise to try to control for now. It's been about 2 months since my diagnosis, 6 months since a chemical pregnancy and almost 1.5 years since we started this TTC journey so I'm VERY frustrated with the waiting at this point! Good luck to you!

Denise...Thanks for the info on Robitussin. I have tried that and probably every other "old wives tale" as far as TTC and nothing has worked for me! All those weeks of grapefruit juice for nothing! :scared:

skuttle, thanks for the words of welcome! Lots of baby dust to you- we have a lot of similarities, don't we? I am anxiously awaiting some bloodwork results that I had drawn on Tuesday- one was for progesterone, to see if the Clomid dose is working, and the second test was a HbA1c, to see if I have had high blood sugars lately. This is my first time getting this test done, and I wonder what it will show; I am testing on a glucose monitor, and know I have had some highs, so I want to see how accurate the blood test is in comparison. Are you following a diabetic diet? I am really trying, but it is a real struggle some days- I love me some carbs! ;)

FirstTimer.... I had an insulin resistance test done back in early August (it was a 2 hour glucose test like you do when pregnant). Those results came back showing I was insulin resistant and my gyn told me to follow up with my GP. Saw my GP and she wanted to try diet and exercise to control before meds. That's pretty much where I stand. No add'l testing, unfortunately. I have an appt with my gyn for early December and I plan on demanding more testing or a referral to an RE. This has been long enough!

My GP actually had me see a dietician and she went over a few things with me, mostly limiting carbs. My goal is no more than 45-60 carbs per meal and no more than 15 carbs per snack. She also gave me some figures re fat, but I don't remember those. The carb thing is tough...so many things have carbs! I was never a diet coke fan..usually always drank regular coke...until I read the back of the label! :faint: The exercise thing is much harder for me...to find the time is tough!

skuttle, that sounds about like my situation. I had a workup done by my ob/gyn, and she just did a glucose test- the number was high, so I went back for a 2 hr glucose test, and showed mild insulin resistance. I was referred to my gp, which didn't get me anywhere. The past few years, any time I have health problems, it seems like it is related to a pregnancy, or ttc, so I have seen my obgyn for it- I hadn't seen my gp literally in years, so he knew nothing of my past medical history with having gd.

Since I was gd with ds, I feel pretty comfortable using my glucose monitor, and I just put myself on the diabetic diet that I followed while pg. I work in the medical field, so I have had lots of nutrition classes, so I felt ok with that area. It is just finding the willpower sometimes that is difficult.

I did talk to my obgyn about metformin, but decided against it for now, unless it looks like my levels are getting too high. I asked my gp about that to get another opinion, and he said no- women ttc couldn't use metformin! :scared1: wth? I have done all the research, and I feel confident it is safe, but I decided to go the clomid route first and see what happens. The gp said my only option was to start insulin again; I was on it 4 times a day while pg, and I would really rather not do that again- I felt like a pin cushion. It is for this reason that I will stick to asking all my questions to my obgyn- I have been with her since ttc my first, so she knows all I have been through, and is very sympathetic to my frustrations, which is wonderful to have in a dr.

I hope your appt in Dec goes well and you get the answers that you need! Good luck to you!

Had the IUI this morning. That was. . .interesting. I sure hope it works!!! I definately feel like I am ovulating. Maybe it's the clomid, but it's a little ouchy.

Ok, I need a ruling here: I really wanted DH to go to the IUI appt with me because I felt like it was bad enough we couldn't get pregnant the old fashioned way and I just felt like he should be there for the (possible) conception of his child, even if it was just to hold my hand. But he didn't want to take the time off work, saying what's the big deal--it's only a procedure. I threw a little snit (can I blame that on the Clomid?) and he ended up coming with and sighing dramatically because it took them longer than anticipated. Was I being a witch or is it no big deal? Just want to know in case we have to this again.

Go ahead and blame the snit on the Clomid...I always did ;) I'm glad your IUI went smoothly...it is a little strange isn't it. My OB was not able to do it so I had the DR that was on call...a man...but he made the experience interesting by cracking jokes and giving my DH and high-five for the excellent quality of his swimmers :rotfl2:

My DH wanted to be there so I can't help you with that. But hopefully you won't have to cross that bridge again :wizard:

A word of advice...don't test until 14 days after your IUI. AND make sure you and your DH have a little "fun" tonight :rolleyes1

Best of luck to you!!!! Lots and lots of baby dust!!! :wizard: :wizard:

FirstTimer... Well, I'm glad to hear you were also referred to your GP. I was wondering why my gyn did that when she knew I was TTC...I figured it was because the insulin issue was a general issue, not just a TTC issue. It's nice to hear that it wasn't just my gyn. I didn't have gd with my DS, although I was put on bedrest at 32 weeks due to PIH. DS arrived 4 weeks early and my gyn seemed to think that if I went full term I would have developed pre-e. DS was 4 weeks early and was 6 pounds 7 ounces so he would have been huge full term. My mom and grandma have diabetes, so that's why we did the insulin testing first when I talked to my gyn. Hopefully she'll agree that it's time to move along in December!

Beth..How exciting!! I hope to see your BFP in a couple of weeks! I would have wanted my DH there, too, and would have been upset if he wasn't. I get upset with DH now because he doesn't seem too interested in the TTC drama. He's of the opinion "It'll happen when it happens, no need to get stressed out." Sometimes I get mad that he feels that way, but then again, I wish I could think about like that because it would probably make me a much happier person!

Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you, Beth. :wizard: I would have been pretty torqued if DH didn't come with me for that procedure.

Beth, I hope you get a bfp this month! :wizard:

I got results on my progesterone check from Tuesday; it looks like the Clomid didn't work this time- my prog was only 1.0, so it looks like I didn't ovulate. Bummer. They will probably up my dose for next month (and my side effects, ugh.) I don't want to be too miserable for our trip in Dec; if my calculations are right, I will be on my med week while we are there.

Hi can I ask... did you have to do the LH kits?? I'm also on clomid and they are making me do the OPK's. So far, no LH rise. I don't think clomid is working for me either. I'm on day 13 today and there is absolutely no sign of any upcoming O.

DznyLvr2005-I usually got a positive around CD 15 on 25mg of Clomid. If you don't get a positive this cycle they may up your dosage. Is your Dr going to check your Progesterone level?

Hang in there :goodvibes

Hi there, I am not doing the LH kits at the moment, but I may try them next month. I used to chart temps, but my work schedule is kind of erratic, so I gave up, because the times ended up being different every day, so it wasn't too accurate for me.

I haven't used the OPKs. But I have used the Clomid way too much for my husband's happiness, and found it tends to make me O around day 20. I have really long cycles normally, and the Clomid tends to shorten them to about 5 weeks.

Yes, at 7DPO I'm supposed to get a progesterone test. So today is CD 15 and this is what I just got on my LH OPK. I don't know, I just can't tell, is this a positive LH surge?? It may be a little lighter than the dark line, so that's a no, but then why is it so dark? :confused3

I chart my temps as well, today my temp was 97.8, higher than normal, but I was sick yesterday and did NOT get any positive OPK's since the possible one I got this morning, so I think this high temp is an error.

Clomid didn't make me any moody than I already am.. lol
OK Thanks everyone for the input...:goodvibes

Looks like a surge to me! I hate those lines. I wish they would make digital OPKs.

haah.. I know.. digital would be nice. I know it looks the same, but if you really stare at it, it may be a tad lighter.. or maybe it's the way the test is.. grrr... It's so frusterating!!!
Well if this is a true surge, I doubt I will get pregnant, since I have no CM what-so-ever at this point :( I was supposed to call the RE once I got the surge to go in for a CM test, but I really don't think there's a point to that!

Well I hope your IUI went excellent and you'll be getting a BFP soon!

Clomid can make you not have CM, at least to the extent we would consider "normal." That's one of the reasons my dr. said she put me on Femara, because supposedly it doesn't do that. Since Clomid is estrogen based, it does some things that work against pregnancy, such as decreasing CM. (All of this is if I'm understanding the dr. right, of course). That doesn't mean it won't happen, because it is still causing ovulation in most cases, especially when the OPK says you are.

On a side note, has anybody else been on Femara? I'm a while out from starting it, but I'd love to hear some experiences. I'll have to take the provera or whatever it is called again first.

On a positive note, we added to our family this weekend. We got a kitty from a no-kill shelter. She is still super traumatized by the move, but we've seen some improvement today. I think her name is Pixie, unless we change our minds!

I just wanted to let you guys know that Clear Blue Easy does make digital OPKs. I hated the line tests as well and learned on another TTC board that they made the digitals. It gives you a circle with a smiley face if you have an LH surge detected and it just gives you an empty circle if it's not. I loved those; they were so easy to use and simple to read and they worked well for me. Unfortunately, they are pretty pricey though. I bought mine at Walgreens. Good luck everyone!

I am so  this morning!!!!!!!
I can't even get the words...
Well I was supposed to go in for a post coital or however you spell it test, so this morning at 7am I call my RE's office and I'm so happy that they are open so early. So I tell the person on the phone that I got a positive surge yesterday and so I need to come in for the test. She says....
"The doctor is off this week and he's the only one that can do it"
OH MY GOD!! I am SUPER MAD at this office, it's unbelievable! I was just in there 2 weeks ago and no one mentioned that he'd be off the time I would surge!!! They knew when I was starting the clomid and no one said a word!
SO this first clomid cycle might be a bust and it's all because of this incompetant (yeah I spelled that wrong) office!!
Hoep everyone else's day started out better than mine!!:)

So sorry your office is not being helpful

All I can say is just BD like crazy and hope for the best. I was dry on some cycles and I used Pre-Seed to help with that. Your OPK looks positive to me and I know how frusterating the lines can be. When I was going in for my IUI I started testing 3 times a day to make sure the timing was right. To be honest I didn't think I ever got a clear positive. The lines just never looked right (or like all my cycles before). But I must have ovulated becasue I got my BFP. I think that is why I was so shocked. I had resigned myself to starting all over with an RE because I just KNEW I didn't catch my surge. Just goes to show that you never know :goodvibes

Sending TONS of Baby Dust to you!!!! :wizard:
