Any other daycare's that have a "no pullups" rule?

I found this out recently at mine...they say Diapers or Underwear only. Apparently they feel pull-ups are of no good use there and would rather the kids have diapers through the time they're ready for underwear.

Is this a common thing elsewhere?

Well, that's just silly. Granted, it's been a while since DD was in diapers--but we used Pull-Ups and her daycare was just fine with it. I'd think they would rather do that than clean up an accident. I found them really helpful--she pretty much potty trained herself but it was better for my peace of mind (and the daycare's) that she had some protection if she had an accident.

DD's has the same policy. I think it's a good idea because pullups actually can delay many kids. IMO they just give kids carte blanche to go in it rather than try to get to the bathroom. With underpants the child will be uncomfortable if he/she has an accident and may try harder the next time to get to the bathroom. The thick training underpants are really absorbent by the way.

BTW, your DS is a real cutie pie :D .

I think it is a good idea and I did this with Pete.

IMHO :o

1) Pull-Ups feel more like underwear and I felt like if he got used to going in his Pull-Ups than he would feel free to go in his underwear.

2) Pull-Ups are more expensive than diapers.

3) Most importantly, while you can TEAR a Pull-Up off once it is dirty, you have to remove their pants/shorts/shoes to get a clean one back on! ;)

Pull-ups are just fancy diapers. I used to work at a Montessori preschool and we had a no pull-ups rule, for that reason. I DO use pull-ups, but I use them as diapers. They just fit my son better than regular diapers. I'm not ready yet to go straight to underwear all the time. BTW, they do make them now with resealable sides, so you can put them on just like diapers.

When I worked at the daycare I would have loved this rule to be enforced at our center. Pull-ups are just like a diaper and I hated when I use to have to take off their shoes and pants to put them back on. I wish we had the removable strips.

I am so glad my son's daycare never had this rule. Pull-ups were wonderful during his training time. They were a great transition for him from diapers to "grown up" undies. We called them big boy pants and he was always so proud when they were dry. Of course that didn't always happen, and it saved me and day care a lot of clean up. When he was fully trained during the day we still used them at night until he could go a whole week waking up dry.

To each his/her own, but add me to the list of successful Pull-Up stories.

Our daycare has the same policy, but for a different reason. Their rationale is the "getting the kid undressed to put a new pull-up on" issue. However, they do allow the new pull-ups with the resealable sides.

I use pull-ups at home at night with DD2 (2 1/2) because if she wakes up before me in the am, she will be a naked, streaking baby before I wake up!!

The thick training underpants are really absorbent by the way.

Where have you guys found the thick training underpants? I have looked at Walmart, Target etc. and no one knows what I am talking about.

I really did not want to use Pull ups, but so far have had no choice.

Thanks.

Thanks CEDmom...everyone has pics of their little ones up and i've not downloaded my digital pics in ages, that one's from Halloween. Now that i know how to post a pic, i'll update one soon.

Anyway, I too thought it was because of the taking off of the clothes issue for the pullups but it was because they just don't hold as much either...

I like the pull ups mostly because 1, my son goes on the potty at home regularly and at night a pull up is usually dry so sometimes I just do underwear and 2, they fit so much better on him than diapers.

Pull ups have velcro strips down the side so everything don't have to come off but if wearing regular underear when wetting they do have to remove everything and it kinda gross if they pee while on a rug. I think thats kinda gross. I wouldn't let my kid go there.

I worked in a potty training room for 2 years and I HATE HATE HATE pullups. I would spend, literally, an hour each day after nap changing them because I had to strip each kid, shoes and all, and redress them. What a pain. I am glad they now have the resealable sides, but I didn't have any kids that used those at the time. Such a waste of time.

I think its one thing if a child was truly close to being potty trained, but most of mine weren't. They were in pullups for a good year or more before going to underwear. That's ridiculous.

the center I worked at (and still sub at sometimes) REQUIRES pullups in that particular room... even though some parents would rather not use them.

I had the most luck with regular underwear with those that were really ready to potty train - I had a few even wear the plastic underwear over it.

Most weren't fazed by the diff between pullups and diapers.

I completely agree with Aimeedyan's post (just above). I worked in a toddler room in a childcare center for a few years and have never had a good experience with Pull-Ups. they were a pain to get on and off and the kids couldn't tell if they were wetting a diaper or a Pull-Up, so I don't see the point. I can see using them at home, especially at night, but at a center with 7 other semi-potty trained kids, it's murder on the teachers.

I am completely potty trained and was never put in a Pull-Up!:teeth:

Yes. I have a 3 year old grandson and they found that the pullups don't "hold" like a diaper. He is not completely potty trained yet. They asked Mom to go back to regular diapers and get rid of the pullups.

I worked two years in a two-year-old room at a half-day preschool and would have loved a no Pull-Ups rule. This was before the Velcro sides, so you had to totally undress a child who needed a Pull-Up changed. It was my experience that the children in Pull-Ups were not trained and usually needed to be changed, too.

Yes and even before we knew, we weren't doing pull ups. They are diapers.

When DD was training, my daycare strongly discouraged it, but it wasn't a rule. I wish it had been though....I could have saved a ton of dough. In retrospecti, Pullups were not a good choice because of the similarity to diapers (as others have mentioned). We have decided against them for our DS.

Nope... didn't do pull-ups with DS, for all the reasons stated.

Even parents who would swear that this is not true... be it a pull-up or a diaper (even at night!) they are a "license to pee"!!!Hahahah!!!

I used Night-Diapers with DS because I just KNEW that he would not get through the night. I always heard that 'if they ever wake up dry, then they are ready....' I say YEAH RIGHT!!!! DS always, I mean always, woke up with a soaking wet night-diaper. BOY was I wrong.. One day I saw that the whole night-diaper thing was like an issue, and DS was a big boy, and the diapers needed to end. I could NOT believe it! It was no time at all and DS was completely dry, and has been ever since.

I think the same idea goes for the pull-ups during the day as well. I know that with DS, a diaper or a pull up was just a license to pee!

Here is a good tip for potty-training at night (or naps....) Forget the whole twin-size waterproof mattress cover thing.!!! What a complete pain to have to strip the whole bed, including that thing, EVERY time your kid does wet. Get a really really nice crib sized absorbant waterproof mat and use it. Way easier to throw in the wash. Voila'! Mine was from KMart Martha Stewart... Forget the cheapy ones, like Jubilee from Walmart. That was the first one I bought... lasted ONE wash.

Boy, I am I glad that I am done with the diapers and potty training!!! Ahhhh,,,, memories!!! :teeth:

My daycare has this rule also. When I started my DD at the facility we go to she was 3 yrs old and she was wearing pull-ups.

On her first day, I told her teacher that she had pull-ups on and she immediately told me that they were not allowed, but she could have them on for that day only. So the next day my DD went w/o them and she did pretty good w/o them. In fact, she potty trained very fast w/o them. I was pretty impressed.:)

1st DS - director of daycare (small daycare) wanted pullups until he was completely trained. She wasn't encouraging him to go to the bathroom. He was fully trained at home, but not at daycare. Disaster. Took forever.

2nd DS - No pull-ups rule. He had the training pants and rubber pants. Worked like a charm.

Get the thick training pants and the rubber pants. Much, much cheaper, also.
