My fiance and I wanted to use a unity candle, but we are worried about the wind at the Yacht Club. Wouldn't want the candle to go out mid-ceremony! So I just saw the idea of the unity sand. If anyone hasn't heard of this, it is a similar concept to the candle. There are three vases (two small and one larger). Mine would have one colour sand (ie. white) and his would have another (ie. black). At the beginning of the ceremony, I would pour a little bit of the white in the bottom, followed by the groom pouring a little bit of black. Once the ceremony has ended, we each pour our colours in at once. It seemed like a cool idea. Here's a picture of one I found on e-bay:
Afterwards the smaller vases can be used for flowers. When we were going to do the candles, we were going to have our Mothers light the individual ones. I thought a cool idea would be for each of them to have the respective sand in a cloth bag and at the beginning of the ceremony they would each pour the sand into the respective smaller vases. What does everyone think? We would probably use white and another colour, but this is kind of a cool idea.
