We are going to Orlando next Spetember for 4 weeks and we have been looking at a Villa in the Southern Dunes Resort.

My Boyfriend is a keen golfer so that was one of the reasons we were looking at this resort.

Has any-one stayed there? If so what were the pros and cons?

Thank-you :0

I haven't stayed on Southern Dunes itself but at a resort very close by. We did drive round Southern Dunes as we went to see a property which was for sale. It appeared to be a very nice resort-clean, tidy and well kept. the golf courses also looked quite good.

It is very near to a large supermarket which is a bonus but worth remembering that it is not as close to Disney as many of the other resorts. We always stay a bit further out as this doesn't bother us but thought I'd mention it.

Another good resort for golfers would be Highlands Reserve.

Hi There

We stayed on Southern Dunes a few years ago. It is a very nice resort, and a really nice golf course, and as the previous poster said, there is a Walmart on your door step.

It is about a 25 minute drive to Disney Parks and a 35 minute drive to universal. If that doesn't bother you and you don't mind being a bit further out, then it is fine !

Enjoy your stay whatever you decide to do..

Barrie

Thank-you.
We will be hiring a car, and when we go to the parks we normally stay there all day so the distance shouldn't be a problem.

Sounds good so far :)

hi...
we are returning to Southern Dunes this Sept.... we LOVE it there... it is a gated community (which, after a break in at another resort, is a MAJOR PLUS:thumbsup2) there is a walmart right at the gate and also a few other shops like a dollar store which is great! right opposite the community there is a mcdonalds and a few other eatery places. the drive to disney is straight forward and easy enough.... en-route to the I4 (to disney etc) there are a few other eatery places and shops.
with regards to th villa, obviously they are all different but the one we had last time was perfect, clean, well maintained, i think the pools get cleaned a couple of times a week if i remember.
:flower3:

I would echo everyone elses comments, it is a very well maintained site, with walmart and other stores on your door step. As you said, if you don't mind not returning for a break during the day then it will be ideal for you. We were very happy with our choice when we stayed there

Stopped there a few years ago and loved it, the distance was no problem for us. Mannys is a must & its close enough to get a taxi there if you both would like a drink one night.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was a bit nervous about it, but feel better now.

Is it easy enough to find the shared ammenities, like the pools and tennis courts?

Southern Dunes is perfect

we stay their alot... this year will be my third year their.

if your chap is into golf then he will love it, also their is a great Wallmart on the corner (walking distance). accross from wallmart is a great little complex with a pizza-hut popeyes chicken and a dvd rental store if you fancy a quiet night in. and a great little rib shack its a trucker stop but it serves the nicest food lol

the only bad thing is your a good 15-20 min away from disney and a good 10-15 min away from universal and International Drive.

Southern Dunes is a gated community with friendly people close by. if your not too fond of a cold swimming pool like me then the warm pool upgrade is well worth the money.

i like staying out of the hustle and bustle of I-Drive and Beuena Vista its a calm and relaxing place.

hope this information helps, if you need anything then the website has a lot of FAQ about the resort,

http://www.southerndunesvilla.com/

and for your chap www.southerndunes.com (golfing)

Thanks for the links. Think my boyfriend is going to love the golf there :)

Don't suppose that any of you who stayed there tried to use other transportation to universal or Disney? I'm thinking of evenings, that we might want to go to Epcot maybe for a meal and glass or 2 of wine :rolleyes1

My cousin used to own a house there. And on the 2 occasions we stayed it was really nice.

even the drive to the parks isnt that far away
