We had reservations for June 3rd through June 10th at BCV and had to cancel. Now it looks like its back on and of course there is no availability anywhere. So the question... Has anyone ever just showed up at any of the DVC resorts and been able to book a room on points? I dont mind moving around if I can get a room each night.

You wouldn't be able to book on points from the front desk. I'm quite sure you would still have to go through MS to do that. Even when we added a night the day before a trip, we had to do it that way.

Several years ago, we were at SSR and scheduled to leave the next day to hit the Alabama Gulf Coast for a few days. Unfortunately, there was a tropical storm headed right for where we were going to be. We went to the front desk as soon as we found out and they told us we might be able to stay the extra three days, but we wouldn't be able to find out until the morning after a call to MS.

We got on the phone with MS as soon as they opened the next morning and were able to get a villa for the next three nights.

But you would have to go through MS to do this.

The only bad part was our new room wasn't ready until about 5:30.

I think just showing up and trying to book on points could be a disaster.

I am sure that there are no full weeks anywhere. Have you tried for a day or two here or there? You can also go on the waitlist if you are still going and possibly get part of your trip at a DVC. Have you considered the Disney collection (that is if it is not the last 60 days of your use year)? I've booked a Ft Wilderness cabin when I couldn't get DVC rooms last minute.

We were able to get a night added to the beginning of a trip by calling the front desk a few years ago. That was before MS was open on Saturday so there was no way to call them. The points were deducted just as if we had called MS.

On the day of check out a few years ago the driver who picked us up at VWL told us the train ( Amtrak) was delayed several hours...I went to the DVC Kiosk and she was nice enough to call MS and they checked everywhere in case we were delayed overnight. The Orlando train station was not somewhere one would spend the night...:headache: There was one room they would have been able to put us up at in OKW..That was an emergency..I wouldn't for a minute just show up!

We arrived April 18 instead of April 19 and called MS about 30 min before we arrived. They were able to get us a room at SSR even though it was a busy week. They were very helpful. At first the guy didn't see any rooms so he called the front desk and then was able to snag us a 1BR.

I would not just show up, but I might try it if we called MS ahead. About the craziest thing we did was years ago, we called MS on the day of and booked a reservation for HHI in the summertime no less. (We were driving to WDW. Our plan was to leave a day early and stay at HHI, if they had availability.)

Funny thing was, we'd never been to HHI and had no idea as to how to get there. Since we made the ressie on the day of, we did not receive a confirmation with a phone number or address. This sank in when we on our way on I-95. :lmao: Lucky for us, it was a Thursday--(back when MS was open later on Thursday) and we were able to call for directions. It is a good thing we called, because we would never have found it otherwise (we'd probably still be looking for it. :scared1: )

This close to your travel dates, I would try to book a cash room at POP Century.

and Pop Century is really nice resort it was my DD first Disney experience and she still hasnt stopped talking about it

Well, thanks everyone for your responses. I called MS today and was able to get a 2BR at SSR for 6 out of the 7 days. The folks will be traveling the same days so we canceled there reservations and added them to ours.

After Hurricane Charlie we checked out of SSR. The airport had opened but then closed just as we got there. Ran across the street, got another car and headed back to WDW. DW got on the cell with MS who sent our call to OKW as they said same day bookings had to be done at the resort. DW completed the the new reservation just as we pulled into the HH parking lot.

You can book "on the spot" if there is room
and even if member services is closed.
I've done it.:thumbsup2
I needed an extra room, went down to the front
desk of BW at 10pm on a Saturday night
and was able to get a standard studio room
for my intoxicated buddy so that they
wouldn't have to drive home:goodvibes

The front desk was able to use my points also!

I have never just shown up....

I have called from the airport on the way TO Orlando and called from my room to extend another night LOL!

in 2004 we were booked on a cruise but DH was taken ill with gastro enteritis and therefore unable to travel. Even leaving the room would have been a problem!!!

We were able to book 3 extra nights using points - front desk organised it all, we just stayed in the room (apart from me going out to get something to eat) until he was better.

I'm so glad it's not just me. We had a few extra points a couple years back and one Sunday I'm like hey, if you can get an offsite hotel for tonight with our reward points and your mom will watch our then infant daughter, let's go to Orlando and see if we can get a DVC room on Monday morning for a couple nights.

I figured there's no way all of that stuff would fall into place... I was wrong, so there we got to Orlando at 3AM, the hotel fire alarm went off at 6AM. We got a one br at SSR the next morning for a few days. :thumbsup2

The biggest bummer was that they just happened to be doing some sort of front desk system upgrade so they couldn't see inventory real time and we had to bum around until after 3, no sleep that day!
