Any one jumping onboard with Verizon next month with the iphone?

It's exactly the opposite here, AT&T coverage is horrible, VW is very good. My BFF has AT&T, she's always losing calls, I rarely lose them. It's interesting how coverage is so different from place to place. As for checking email/browsing while on the phone I can't do that now so it isn't a priority for me. :)

You know, my BFF lives in Jacksonville/Orlando and has said the same thing. He has an AT&T phone and a VW phone and says that although he would love to just stick with AT&T his coverage isn't as good in FL as it is in NYC.

As a Verizon customer that was due for an upgrade just before Christmas, I thought long and hard before I upgraded. I knew the Iphone was coming soon, I have an Ipod touch, and my husband has a DroidX so I knew the pros and cons. I decided to go ahead with the upgrade to a Samsung Fascinate and I'm happy with my decision. I was worried about the data plan changes coming with the Iphone so I wanted to get signed up prior to it. I love my rooted Samsung Fascinate. We use it as a wireless hotspot for the kids Ipod touches when we go places for free. I felt comfortable having my way with a Droid phone but I knew rooting an Iphone was out of the question. Maybe next upgrade.... then again, maybe not....

I've been waiting for the iphone to come to Verizon too and am very happy the time is now! We have always been very happy w/ our Verizon coverage, and never considered switching to AT&T. Around here, and most places we've travelled, we have great coverage; friends on AT&T lose calls all the time in "dead zones". Weird how varied it is around the country.

We are upgrading DS to iphone as a 16th birthday gift - he is ready to preorder next week! He currently has talk and text only on his phone. I have a blackberry and am totally ready for an iphone, but am debating whether to get mine now or wait until the summer. Both DS and I were eligible for upgrades last spring. I don't really care much about the talk and browse the web at the same time thing, so that's not an issue. I will probably order mine next week too :woohoo:

It seems like I've been waiting forever for a VZ iPhone, and now that it is a reality, I'm unsure if I want it. :confused3. I have a Motorola Droid and really like it. I'm not so sure that the iPhone is any better than what I already have. I'll have to do some more research on it before I make a final decision.

This is not true. All smartphones will be on 3G until 4G smartphones are launched later this spring.

that is how we understand it too, which is why DS is waiting ...he was just saying that the kids at school who received IPhones/ smartphones for Christmas are already saying that they are trading up when 4G hits...DS doesn't have that kind of $ to throw around so he is just waiting and will choose once 4G options are available. He has been saving for over a year now so if the 4G do not come out by fall, he'll probably get a Droid Incredible.

I don't know about everyone else, but the cost to have a phone is rediculous at Verizon. I have the family plan with 4 phones (no IPhones yet), and the cost is $160+ a month. My daughter wants to upgrade to the IPhone and so would I and my son since we are all due for an upgrade, but the data plan for EACH phone is $30/month. I can't imagine paying another $90/month on top of the $160.

Now, if the data plan was just $30/month for everyone on the plan, I would consider it.

When I think that my Time Warner bill for cable, phone and internet is $170 month, I can't see spending any more money to access the internet when I can do it through my computer.

Not only that, but I am waiting for the new IPad 2. If it truly does have 2 camera's on it, then SKYPE is going to be the way I make calls in the future!!

I feel the same as many here. We are Verizon customers and have been for many years. It's just the best for coverage in our area. I have lusted over the Iphone for a long time and couldn't WAIT to have it offered through VW. Now that the time is here...I'm not sure I'll choose it when my time to upgrade comes around (April). The new Android phones are getting such great reviews that I will seriously consider them against the Iphone when the time comes. We are a 2 Itouch family, so I'm familiar with the basics...it will just come down to the cost, the plan, and the extras compared to the other phones available at that time. It's nice to have it for consideration, though. :thumbsup2

it is very frustrating , we feel the same way on the paying double for service thing. We thought DS was going to make his purchase by the end of this month since there is a promo going on to add a smartphone without the 9.99 per month cost, and then his current $10 a month fee for texting/iamges would be absorbed into the data plan(looking at the 30, when you see what you will need to take advantage of a smartphone the 15 plan in insufficient) add the 8 a month insurance and we were looking at an $18 monthly fee for him to have a smartphone. However, since he is waiting for 4G we will lose out on that promo, but figure another will be along eventually. I am sending you a PM.

I'm really torn on switching or not. I have an AT&T iPhone 3GS. My service was so bad that I purchased a MicroCell for my home and now have perfect service. The limitation of not being able to surf and talk at the same time will probably keep me with AT&T for now since I was grandfathered and still have the unlimited $30 data plan.

I think I'll stay 3GS until the 5 comes out.

That promo prompted me to upgrade 2 of our lines to smartphones. I knew I would get at least a $20 break per month for both lines even though we were adding 2 $30 data plans. Well, the 2 previous phones both had Asurion insurance that we never used but I had to have for peace of mind, that was $16 for both lines. I switched 2 lines to smartphones, got insurance through Squaretrade, and our bill is only $20 more/mo. Not a bad deal!

Insurance is a must for DS as well....he is a swimmer so water damage possibilities, things have a habit of 'walking off" at our H.S , and quite honestly, he is used to a pretty indestructible clam shell phone that has been dropped multiple times, left out in the rain, smashed in his back-pack and most recently? Fell out of his pocket as he was getting into the car, literally getting caught and smashed into the door frame as he closed the door. DH and I both said is the car alright, lol...and both the car and phone are fine. I highly doubt ANY smart phone will take that kind of abuse, no matter what glove/case it has. The fact that his current phone has outalsted all of his firends is one reason he has held off going "mainstream" and he has been teased mercilessly about his Flintstone phone( as it has been affectionately nicknamed) but he knows he will be beside himself if he breaks a new phone

I just got the Droid 2 a month ago, so unless I use DH's phone line for an upgrade I won't get one. I really love my Droid so I will probably just stick with that. DD19 is eligible for an upgrade and I asked her if she wanted one but she says she just wants a new Blackberry which is fine with me, way cheaper. :thumbsup2

I've been waiting forever and will pre-order mine as soon as Verizon announces that I can!

Wait, so I can upgrade one of my phones to a smartphone and not have to pay the $9.99 monthly fee? All I will pay is the data fee for that phone?

Verizon is running a promo until the end of this month waiving the 9.99 fee for 2 years. Since we already pay it for our DS, it would feel like a credit to us, and as the sale guy explained to us, the current $10 a month fee we currently pay for DS to have unlimited texting/photos is not needed since that is coverd in the 30 a month data plan, increasing our credit to $20 a month. We would choose to add an $8 monthly insurance fee. So for us, basically 30 data plan + 8 insurance is 38...less the 20 credit would be a monthly increase of $18 for our DS to upgrade if he were to do so. I only have unlimited texting( $5 p mo) so if it were myself upgrading, I would have a $15 credit to put toward the increase.

Oh, I did not know that. I was thinking of waiting until next month, but the deal you mentioned seems like it's worth it to jump on it now. Now I have to hurry up and pick a phone.

Received more information on this promo. You have to buy 2 smartphones - one with the $30/month data plan and the other with th $10/month data plan. The only phone that is waived is the $10/month data plan phone. So it doesn't seem like such a great deal.

What does "rooting" mean?

I just got back from the verizon store. I was told something a little different. I was told you could have the $15 data plan. I hate when each store tells you something different. I bet your store is right. They want to get the most money out of you.

I have never had a problem with at&ts service. So I will be staying with them . The data plan for Verizon will be $30 unlimited use but that's a limited time offer. They will be coming out with tiered plans after that and Verizon always tends to run high, price wise. I get 2gb per month for $25 with AT&T, which works fine for me.Plus, my sister and my friend had bad experiences with Verizon customer service.
