...the commercials on TV these days?! If it is not bad enough having to see feminine protection commercials throughout primetime (and have DS 11 quote them later  ), now we have KY warming liquid during the Saturday afternoon matinees to contend with. Not to mention viagra and all of its cousins. I long for those more genteel days when such things were a matter for private concern and not talked about in mixed company.

by the Cialis commercials that talk about a "4 hour erection" and "sexual activity" all during prime time. Isabella is 5 and doesn't need to know about this stuff.

I'm no prude but why can't they put this stuff on at 9pm or later?

Mostly TV in general, not limited only to the commercials. I rarely watch it anymore.

I agree, things have just gone too far.

And BTW--anyone find it ironic that Janet's escapade during the Superbowl received so much criticism, yet Lil' Kim shows up for the Grammy's in an even more revealing outfit, and no one bats an eye?

I think both were in extremely poor taste.

A freind of mine is a photographer for Rolling Stone, and often shares his work before submitting it for my opinion. He showed me shots he had taken of Mariah Carey, and the only thing I could blurt out was "Tell that girl to put some d*** clothes on!"

Anymore I prefer the Travel Channel, Discovery, History Channel, etc. when i do watch TV, which isn't all that often.

I don't have cable so all I see are the commercials on regular TV. The most common commercials that bother me are those for Herbal Essences products. Very tasteless IMO. I won't even buy the shampoo (which really does smell great) anymore just because the commercials are so annoying. Unfortunately the "totally organic experience" advertising ploy must be working or they would have changed ad campaigns by now.

Usually I only watch shows I've taped, so I just fast-forward through all the commercials anyway. And I'm also in the habit of automatically muting the TV during commercial breaks because almost all ads annoy me in one way or another. And I don't even have kids.

Only thing on in my house is Noggin (no commercials) or PBSkids (Very little advertising-no commercials).

When DH is home he will watch sports channels (which are the WORST at commercials). I have to be very careful when DS is paying attention (lol which isnt often).

I don't have children, but some of them scare me and make me uncomfortable.

I don't like a lot of the commercials or the other garbage on TV. In fact, DH and I are trying to "wean" ourselves from the TV right now while our baby is young because we just don't want our kids watching much TV. I don't even like the videos they show on the Disney Channel.

I also don't like shows that have curse words in their titles, like that Best *&#@ Sports Show on one of the sports channels. I don't watch it, but I have to look at the name when I watch the TV Guide channel or when I scroll through the programming with my remote. When it was new, they even had ads for it on Nick at Night that bleeped out the bad word.

I agree in part with what you're saying. I wish personal product commercials were not shown during children's programs. However, I think having commercials for certain products (i.e viagra) has really helped people by bringing seemingly delicate issues into the mainstream.

Children or commercials? :teeth:

It's not just TV. In January we were listening to a football game on the radio in the car and a commercial for "The L Word" (the show about lesbians on Showtime) came on. The following dialogue was in the commercial.
"What does she have that I don't?"
"She has the best nipples in town!"
Try explaining that! Luckily the kids didn't seem to be paying attention at the time but next time we heard that commercial start we changed the station as fast as possible.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who hates the Herbal Essence advertising. I used to buy it occasionally, but I refuse to now. I just find the commercials to be way too blatantly sexual. The feminine product commercials make me hope my ds isn't paying to much attention, but at least they aren't using sex to sell shampoo! I was shocked the other day when a K-Y commercial came on when my kids were watching cartoons! It was a strange time for it.

I have one word for you... TIVO!!! We hardly watch live tv anymore, except for things like NOGGIN. Since we bought the TiVo, we are watching all sorts of interesting programs and movies and buzzing right thru any ads. In the van, we listen to a lot of Radio Disney or country music. However, I just about called the country station the other day. They advertise themselves as "America's Country" and music everyone can listen to, well, we were listening at 2:30 on the afternoon and there was a "humorous" bumper with someone saying "You suck". Excuse me, that is not funny or appropriate and I had to spend the next 15 mins explaining to my 3 1/2 yo why that isn't something nice people say.

I had a problem with one of those "positive" radio stations the other day, too. It's a station that has Christian music and what they call "positive country." It's just regular country music, not religiously-themed or anything, but I guess they weeded out the "I lost my truck and my wife ran away with my best friend" stuff. Anyway, they played a song about some people who died on a bus. It was a minister, two other people also named by their professions (although I don't remember what they were), and a hooker. The song actually had a positive message, but it kept using the word hooker over and over again. I would have just died if I had a verbal child in the car with me.
