Seems to have been pretty quiet lately regarding the (allegedly) new theater and/or movie over at Soarin'. What's the latest?

When we were there in April CM in Soarin' said they were already working on the construction. No plan right now for the film but he said they are working on a new digital one that they plan on rolling out in Hong Kong. If that works out then they plan on moving it to WDW.

The third room will be added by November 2016.

There are questions about how the new digital SOARIN movie will be enacted. They can't close SOARIN to upgrade to the Digital technology because EPCOT doesn't have enough attractions. So the transition will be tricky.

In my opinion they will open the 3rd theater before the Christmas crowds, then after Jan 1 they will close one theater at a time and keep 2 open and upgrade the closed theater to the new movie. The goal would be to have 3 theaters showing the new digital SOARIN World movie by Spring Break 2017.

It took 1 year to build the Empire State building using 1930's technology. But it will take 2 years to build a new theater and add a new film to SOARIN'.

If Disney was in charge of the Manhattan Project we'd still be in the midst of WWII!!

Or they could shut down the attraction completely and get it done faster. Nobody was using or accessing the Empire State Building before it was built. Of course it could be completed relatively fast.

Plus they didn't need to get approval from every single bean counter at the company.

Too bad Amazon.com mangers weren't running Disney. They would be announcing and constantly be building new parks at Disneyworld. They would be upto 25 parks by now.

It is not a rumor, it is in fact OFFICIAL as stated by previous posters.. HOWEVER, only a new theater and upgraded film was talked about, not a different movie..

Can you imagine how crowded it will be if they open with one new soarin theater and one old one. The line for the new version will be a zoo. I wonder if they will open a FP+ just for it.

So there is no new movie? What's the point of expanding then?

Not that a theater is anywhere close to the Empire State Building, but building codes in Florida are a bear. A new house with no upgrades using a stock floor plan tends to take 4 months.

Even if they are using old space, the major renovation would require following all new codes.

So you can't really compare construction in 2015 with construction in the 1930s.

I thought Disney was it's own little town and only has to follow it's own codes?

How does Universal build stuff so fast then?

I think the real answer is that they are paying the money to get it done. I'm sure that if Disney had to chose between adding 20% to the cost of a refurb or adding a couple of months, they would always choose the longer time.

I had heard at one point that Disney was filming new clips for the new Soarin' film, including WDW itself.
