any news about Garret Bardsley(missing 12 yr old in Utah MTS)

I have not heard anything other than @ 8:00 this a.m. and they were still looking. I hope they find him:( Did I hear it correctly that he has been missing since Friday? I also thought I heard he was a Boy Scout. I thought they were taught to sit and wait if they were lost in the woods. My prayers go out to his family. This is too sad.:( :(

As of this afternoon, they still haven't found him. They are not expecting a good outcome. My prayers go out to his family too.

Sadly no! It has been in the low 30's up there at night and he was in no way prepared for that kind of weather.

Here is a local news website with info....they had the dad on tv and it was so sad! I feel for them

It has now turned into a body recovery instead of search and rescue. :(

Well probably in order to understand how it is possible to get extremely lost you would have to visit that particular area...it is VERY easy to get lost up there. When he left his father to walk around the lake and back to the camp site his dad watched him walk and noticed he was just a little "off" on his direction (every tree looks the same up there..they are all green :teeth: ) so he yelled to him to change his direction so he did but it is entirely possible to get lost up there especially at 12. I have a feeling he may have wandered a little too far just barely off course and maybe panic set in and then it gets cold and dark up there EARLY so he may have hunkered down somewhere and could have frozen to death that night! The lows up there are in the high 20's to low 30's and the day temps are barely reaching 40 (heck we barely made it to 60 the last few days). Over decades 100's of people have been lost up there and never found...it isn't that unusual just extremely sad! There was a mother and daughter last year that died up there and it took until some hunters found their bodies this spring. It's a tough place to navigate (coming from one who got lost up there for a couple of hours) and it's scary!

hydster - that is just so sad. I feel so sorry for them all. I hope that they are wrong and they do find the boy.

It is so sad.

All he had for protection from the elements was a hooded sweatshirt and he was wet to begin with.

It is such a fine line parents walk between letting kids be independant and keeping them safe.

I'm sure that poor father is beating himself up for not personally walking the boy back to the camp himself - especially when he started to go off course a little.

One report said his mother was on a cruise - I wonder how she found out about it. Did she get that awful call when she was away or was she back home by then? Anyone know?

I can't even imagine what a horrible, helpless feeling that must be.

Yes I do hope they find him but it looks very unlikely now with temps that cold for that many days. When you are up 7-8500 feet in the mountains without any real protection it's highly unlikely to survive that long.

AZ Pirates...according to the local news a few days ago (not sure which station) the mother got that awful call on the last day of her cruise and she had to wait it out to get off the ship and get home. SO so so sad!!! The father was on the news today talking about it and it was awful to watch! You could just see the pain in his eyes and how hard he was taking the fact that HE let him go. It is so sad!
