Are all the buildings open now? Do either the Springs or the Paddocks have a quiet pool? What about the lack of a sit down restaurant? I've spoken to my guid eabou this and she mentioned that the idea has been tossed around and they might do it when the resort was finished.

Any ideas? I'd like to see a sit down place at SSR. I'm also not fond of the one room eatery/gift shop. The gift shop suffers, IMO. My fav gift shop is at CSR, visit it someday and see what a real gift shop should be! :teeth:

We just got back from a week visit at SSR. Not all the buildings are done. When you first enter the resort, they are still working on the last buildings in The Springs area. There is a quiet pool there also and the buses make two stops in The Springs. They are also working on the area around the golf course. None of this really gets in the way. We stayed in The Springs area and loved it! The restaurant is still the same. We really enjoy that area and don't mind the smaller gift shop. We love the whole feel of SSR. It is quiet, yet we feel like we can get to DTD in a short while.

When any hotel/resort considers their resturants and gift shops they must take into acount the local competition, with DTD just a short walk away the competition at SSR is pretty big. Part of what I like about SSR is that I like to think of DTD and PI as part of MY resort. Of course all you visitors are welcome to come shop and dine.....Oh, and if you promise to behave yourselves you can also use MY golf course and SPA. Hope you have a nice visit. :rolleyes1

This is from the All Ears Newsletter I recieved last night:

The Turf Club at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa will become the Turf Club Bar and Grill on November 1st. With the name change will come an expanded menu. The Bar and Grill will serve signature drinks, sandwiches and other American favorites. Seating will be both inside and outside with table service for lunch and dinner. Construction on the dining area will begin in November with a Summer 2006 opening. While under contruction, the current dining area will remain open.

Cool! I'm glad they're going to do something more with the Turf Club. It's a nice area but it seems under-used.

I totally understand Fishermouse - I feel like DTD is part of SSR, but most of those restaurants are pricey. Earl of Sandwich is by far my fav (great for taking back to your room) and I am really looking forward to Raglan Road!

How official is the "allears newsletter"? Will DVC make an announcement? Is it on the website?

This is really good news especially as we will be going October 2006. Really excited about this news

Allears Newsletter is not an official Disney Newsletter, but it is very reliable.

Wasn't there talk at some point in the past of building another theme pool at SSR or was that just a lot of speculation?

Jim Lewis, Sr VP of DVC, announced the Turf club info on the member cruise so it's official.

Fishermouse,

As a fellow SSR owner (and a fellow NE PA'er) I agree with your opinion of SSR. We also own at VWL and will ALWAYS love it there, but, SSR just has SOMETHING of its own to offer also. DH and I stayed at SSR in May on our anniversary trip and we're staying again in December with our two DS's (age 16 and 24). The two of them haven't stayed there yet, so, I want to see their opinion also. I really like the fact you can park right next to your building.....not a half mile away....not to say I don't like the resorts attached to hotels......as I stated we love VWL and I also love BWV (a little more than the rest of the family). But, SSR also gives me the feeling I truly am staying at my home away from home just because of the setup. By the way, where are you located in NE PA? We're off the Moosic exit of I-81, about a mile or so from Montage.

As a DVC member you also receive a 10% discount from several of the DTD restaurants. Plus, if you have an AP you can receive a 10% discount off of merchandise purchased in DTD. There is no AP merchandise discount in any of the resort or park gift shops. Extra perks for SSR guests.

While some of the restaurants may be a little on the pricey side, think of all the dues we don't have to pay for having what could be considered SSR restaurants! If I'm not mistaken, part of the BWV and maybe BCV dues go towards the Boardwalk area. If this is not correct, please feel free to correct me.

the mousesavers newsletter says this:

Saratoga Springs Resort to Get Table Service Restaurant
Saratoga Springs Resort at Walt Disney World has announced that it will supplement its Artist's Palette quick-service restaurant with a table-service restaurant.

On November 1, The Turf Club will officially become The Turf Club Bar and Grill, which will feature newly expanded menu offerings. This includes everything from signature drinks to sandwiches and other creatively prepared American favorites, in a warm, casual setting featuring indoor and outdoor seating areas. Both the indoor and outdoor seating areas will offer table service for lunch and dinner.

Visible construction on the new dining area will also begin in November. The enhanced dining area is scheduled to debut in Summer 2006 and will more than double the current seating capacity. The current dining area will remain open during construction

btrim - do you mean the final buildings of The Paddock? I thought they were done all the Springs buildings.

we go in 10 days - can't wait to stay there!
Thanks!

I do mean the Paddock area. We stayed in The Springs and loved it. Sorry for the mix-up. I know you will love it there. We do. Just don't feel at home any other place.

I hope Disney or at least DVC will do an official announcement to make it feel "real".

Just can't belive my luck as we are not planning to go until October 2006 and are taking two families with us, one of which are on the "large" side and so this will be excellent rather than having to make them walk to DTD or even crossroads as we had planned!!!

Great news. Won't be able to sleep with excitement now and only have 391 days to go!!!
