Any More Info on the NEW Illuminations Dessert Party??

This bit seems like something they should adjust, to me. Changes the perceived value significant for that group.

Anyone who is totally against paying $50 for an underage guest just won't go. They will probably fill this up anyway.

Well, for my 11-year-old it would be $50! He's certainly not drinking! And there's no way he's putting away $50 worth of desserts.

Right, I just used under 10 as an example.

Heck, I'm not putting away $50 worth of desserts--although I might give it a good shot! And I don't drink sparkling wines.

Agreed, look at my example above...you can sample desserts and alcohol from different countries and not have a seat with a good viewing location all over the world showcase for alot less than $50 per person.

Now, put me on one of those islands in the lagoon and now you're talking.

ITA - it'll fill up!

And that is why the cost is so high, not because of the alcohol.

Look at the retail cost of Hoop De Do & Backyard BBQ, then look at production cost.
I don't disagree that demand is a big factor - I said it was both IMHO. Just that actual cost - and perceived value of adding alcohol - factor into pricing.

It's not the wine per se, because there's no discounted price for anyone between the ages of 9 and 21. If you can't or don't drink alcohol, you pay the same as those who do. Same thing with the special stuff like Food & Wine Festival events. You can bring someone under 21, but there is no reduction in price because they can't drink the included alcoholic beverages.

I agree it's going to be about the demand.

I decided against booking this based on the price and the "no seating." For $50 I would like a seat, and no kids on shoulders.

What do you mean "no seating"

Actual cost always has to be a factor because that is how you measure profit.

This is like the Bloomin Onion at Outback. It costs them probably $.45 to produce it, but they sell it for $6. They're selling a popular shtick.

Like the dessert party, this carries a HUGE profit margin because of such a small production cost.

IMP, the Fantasmic! Dining Package is a MUCH better value.

I realize that most of the cost is for the "experience" but really...how much can I justify as "experience" ?? I've got to get something for my $50 and while I can put away a lot of steak or pasta or soup, there is only so much rich sweets that I can pack into my stomach at one time. Granted it's spread over 90 minutes but lets be honest here...can you really put down 10 different desserts in one evening.

And even if you could, it doesn't sound like there will be 10 different desserts! They're talking about items from 5 countries, plus "ice cream treats" Doesn't sound like nearly the selection as at the Wishes party, for half the price.

And part of the "experience", I suppose, is a good spot to see Illuminations. But can't you use FP+ for that--for free? Is this going to be any better?

There will be tables but no seating.

I hope they still have this party in November, I'm looking forward to not having to fight my way into finding a good spot for Illuminations!

I'm looking forward to the 15th to hear about the reviews on it. Then I'll know if I want to do this in October.

What time do you usually start "looking" for a spot and where do you prefer to look?

I have been able to find a spot just about anywhere I want, any time of the year around 8:30 ish.

seems to me there are plenty of people who will justify the cost. I called to get info and just to check avilability and they are already booked for May 17th. That made my decision easy. The location is in between Canada and United Kingdom. They will have sitting for the deserts and wine but not for the fireworks. The viewing for the fireworks will be a roped off area. We have 7 people in our group four adults and 3 children 9 and under. It looks like we will end up saving just under $300. Instead we will grab a dessert of choice from the worlds and sit by Italy near the fountains. Hopefully this is a good spot because I think it is just beautiful there.

What do you mean "no seating"

There will be no chairs. At least not for the fireworks viewing.

Jury's out on whether there will be tables and chairs to eat the desserts, or just standing tables. We'll find out Sunday after someone has done this I guess.

i am more shocked at the no seating part! really i am going to pay that much to stand too!! :scared1: i don't think so. i thought about changing to this instead of the illuminations cruise but i really don't want to stand the whole time i just pay my $400 for my special cruise

I called and spoke with Disney earlier today. They claim there is seating for the Dessert Party but not for Illuminations part. This is standing only and is a roped off area.

The full price also includes an 18% gratuity. So, for an adult, it starts at $41, then tax and the gratuity comes out to the $49.

Using that logic, the MK dessert party is $19 for adult, plus tax and tip.
