Hi everyone. Just got back from the hospital and guess what. James has broken his wrist!!!! I can't believe it. He fell over in the Drama Studio at school yesterday and this is the result.

At the moment he has a temporary plaster on and has to go back on Tuesday to be reveiwed and probably have something more permanent on.

We leave for WDW 2 weeks tomorrow. Anyone have any idea whether he will be allowed to ride any of the rides and if so, which. Obviously, anything too jerky will be out as it will hurt but will Disney stop him riding anything at all.

It will also put a stop to anything to do with water - no banana boat for him this year.

I know it could be a lot worse but at the moment I could just sit and cry. He is in a lot of pain and is worried about not being able to do much on his holiday.

Anyone got a hug to spare?

Karen

Karen, Honey he'll be fine. Give him a pain killer for now and you'll see in 2 weeks he'll be feeling much better.
As far as the rides go I've never seen it posted anywhere in WDW that you can't ride if your wearing a case on your arm. Put a plastic bag on it so he can get in the water. Don't forget to bring duct tape.

Hugs!

Karen: Sending you a great big hug!! So Sorry to hear about James. Not sure whether or not he will not be allowed on rides at disney. Is he able to take anything for the pain? You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Dena

Oh Karen I am so sorry to hear that!!! -

In two weeks time, he will be just fine - And I agree with "ginger", A plastic bag and some duct tape, and he'll be able to go in the water -

I don't see a problem with going on rides either - I know he must be in pain right now, but that will subside with time -

Just think, everyone will be giving him so much attention - Maybe the characters on the ship can sign his cast!! Just trying to make light of the situation for you - But being a mother, it's hard not to feel pain when your child is in pain!

karen

Karen, sending lots of big hugs your way! I was just thinking the same thing about the characters signing his cast, and Karen beat me to it! Great minds think alike! ;)

No adult costumes here. I couldn't possibly plan on fitting any more stuff in the suitcases. All these baby supplies we're planning on bringing is going to fill one suitcase alone!

The new Disney movie Brother Bear opens on Nov 1 (what movie opens on a Saturday??) Do you think we'll have a "PremEar" on the ship? That would be fun!

I for one will be majorly upset if he lets a giant mouse sign his cast and not me! I said the exact same thing to my mum in the car on the way home from school. Let's look on the bright side, it saves money because we won't have to buy an autograph book!

I'll definitely still want to TorT. I really didn't like Common Grounds last year and so chances of me meeting many other people my age are quite slim. Plus I love hanging round with littlies, it's so much fun to get dressed up and act all kiddyish again. I know I do this in school anyway (yesterday we tried to dig our way out with spoons!) but it does provide me with an excellent excuse for my behaviour!

Karen,
Not that I am a dr. or anything, But when I was a kid I had a broken right arm and a broken left wrist at the same time( bike agenst car -- bike lost)! after the frst week or so no pain at all. This happend the end of June I was in casts for six weeks. I had fiberglass casts and was able to go swimming take showers with no problems.

Sorry to hear about that Karen. Hope he's doing ok and it all gets better as soon as possible for him.

Adults bringing costumes? Oh my wife will for sure. Me? Hmmmmmmmm ... Oh when am I not in costume I must ask myself!

Karen- Sorry to hear about your son. My DD broke her foot last year the day before we left for 10 days at WDW:( Not fun...... She actually was a trooper, the only thing they denied her access to was the pirates cruise from Grand Floridian(understandably). I just took her for a shop and out for breakfast while the rest of the kids went.

It is amazing how kids adjust.

KAREN: Hugs coming your way for you and James.
How about a fiberglass cast? Ask when you go back if they can do that and if it can get wet in the ocean. You still might now want James on the Banana boat, but it sure would be nice if he could wade around or float on the water.

I like Karen's idea that the characters could sign James' cast!! Take some permanent markers for that job. Then, when the cast is cut off, ask the MD if you can keep it, glue it together and have a momento of the trip.

Is he thinking of doing Halloween as a patient? Get him a bathrobe to wear and some slippers and perhaps a sling for the cast and then Oliver can be the doctor--borrow a stethescope or buy a toy one and have him wear a white lab coat over his slacks and shirt. Oliver could carry a little black bag for his treats and perhaps James could carry a pillowcase???

EMMA: You dug your way out of WHAT  with a spoon???

Jan :earsgirl:

Karen,

Sorry to hear about James - the suggestions you have gotten here have all been good ones, and I bet he will be fine.

I doubt that we will bring costumes for us - perhaps something simple just to be in the spirit.

I have to say that our big "kid" (DS 16) wants nothing to do with TOT, but always has had a great time at common grounds, and has made some great friends on every cruise. We hardly see him the whole time.

Still counting down!

Karen - Sorry to hear about James. Hopefully he will be feeling better as time passes. The patient and doctor idea for costumes sounds great! Maybe he can put a positive spin on his misfortune.

Karen - Wow, sorry to hear about James. I hope that he feels better soon. I agree the others have had some wonderful ideas though.

Emma - I went TOT for a long time around here (Pocono's PA). That way my parent's could hand out and I could take care of my younger siblings. The funniest year was when I was given dog biscuits and told I was too old to be out. I think I was 15.

Good Morning Everyone.

It is a chilly 39 degrees here in Tennessee. The expected high today is 68 degrees. When the cool weather arrives, it reminds me how close we are to cruise time. We will be leaving home in 20 days.
Karen: So sorry to hear about James. I hope he feels better soon.
BTW: Adding a few more TorTers would be okay with us. We prepared for approx. 44. Just in case.
:firefight princess: :jester: :wizard:

The more the merrier.

Have a great day everyone.pirate:

Thanks for your good wishes everyone. James is feeling a bit better today and the good news is that according to people posting on the Theme Parks board, he shouldn't have too much trouble on rides at WDW.

Karen

Goodness--I haven't checked in for a few days and this thread has really grown!

I don't mind a few more Trick or Treaters, we have lots of candy. No costumes for DH and I, we're just going to relax!

Only 18 more days for us! We're flying to Florida on 10/22 and will spend a few days with family before the cruise.

I am soooooooooooooo ready for this vacation.

Wendy
