Any luck with National ID's and Coupons codes

Used the Visa rate and 35 coupon code... am paying 175 for 7 days.... great rate... but i was wondering do i need to have the actual coupon????

I used the visa code with a double upgrade also.. different code than the previous poster though: NU2568JDX . I got a standard (Monte Carlo or similar) for the price of a compact. Total with insurance (because it's included with the visa code) is $636 for 21 days and $681 for 22 days.

It's nice to get the insurance, though I don't need it... but this price is $100 more than last year. I can't get it any cheaper. I've tried every code I can find, and most car rental places.

I got $657 with Avis (with a code). And I even tried MCO with EZ-Car rental and got $652 (no code). I can get $30 off that price with the credits I earned there.. but I'd rather not fly into MCO if I can help it.

My dates are June 13th - July 3rd (or 4th) flying into Sanford (SFB)... if anyone is going around those dates and has gotten better prices with a specific code/company.. please let me know!

Wow.. with the increase of airfare and car rentals this year, it's putting a strain on my budget!

Umm...that's less than $31/day. that's actually a great rate considering the price increase in everything (IMO). We are flying into tampa on 7/2 and the cheapest I've gotten a minivan for is $584 for the 15 days

I didnt use the $35 coupon code for my Oct. & Dec. trip, i only used the visa code. I booked my March trip using the visa and $35 coupon codes. I figure if i book my Oct & Dec. trips now with the visa code and wait for a coupon to add later, if at that time my rate doesnt change for making or adding a change to the ressies.

ok, i mis-interpreted ur post, was wondering how u slipped the coupon thru...there are entertainment ones out for $20, best i've seen

ps i re-checked my rate for Oct. today (8 days) & it dropped $25 to $235 for intermediate (despite hating the Dollar line, i'm keeping my ressie there of $190 jik;) )

Just got back - got an 8 passenger minivan for 11 days with National for $349. Used the Carlson Code and a $25 coupon which I believe came in an email from National.

Just a word of caution with National - if you need an 8 passenger van, make sure you reserve one. We had to wait behind a couple of other folks to actually get the 8 passenger we reserved. There were NONE on the aisle at all. They were charging a pretty hefty premium to upgrade from the 7 to the 8 passenger.

Has anyone used the Kiosk with the visa card contract ID? On my reservation confirmation it only shows Save Time. In the past it has also shown the Kiosk.

What's the Carlson Code? The difference in price on National's site between the 7 and 8 passenger was huge. It was almost double the price.

I'm having no luck with any of these codes. I booked at Dollar from 5/7-12 for a compact (it's a budget trip) for $124.65. Budget Car Rental through a USAA code came out slightly higher. When I put in these same dates and use every code mentioned in this thread it still quotes $177.00 for a compact. That's no where close. Last Sept I used National and got terrific rates, in January I used Alamo with the best rate and now I guess I'll try Dollar unless I can find a better deal. Last year I paid $125.00 for 7 days, now it's that same price for 5 days??? :confused3

sometimes the best offers are NOT for the compact vehicles. You might want to play around with a bigger car choice to see if that makes a difference.

Got it off of Fat Wallet - it seems to me that there was some controversy on mousesavers about this code but we had no problemo using it.

I've tried just about every code for our dates in May (7-16) and can honestly say that using the Carlson code is more expensive than most of the other codes - at least for our dates. Right now we've got a reservation for $267/with taxes and are hoping that will go down closer to our trip.

Bonny

It's the best price I can get now.. but for the exact same dates last year it was only $523 for a fullsize. Now, a fullsize, with the best codes I can find, is $150 more than last year, so I certainly can't consider that great. I think that's a pretty big increase, even considering the increase in "everything". Gas prices have skyrocketed, but I don't think that should effect the price of rentals since we're the ones who put the gas in them. If anything, they should make the prices more attractive to encourage people to rent despite gas prices. You would think anyway...

So for now I'll have to be happy keeping the standard sized at the rates I have, but I'll keep checking daily. I still have 3 months left. Maybe they'll come down.

I didn't price insurance as I ALWAYS waive it! That's what I pay NJ car insurance prices for - no need to pay it twice!
I do, too. But did you see the post eariler in this thread from the person who had a bumper scraped and wasn't held up at all dropping off the car because this National code included all the insurance? If I find a code that gives me the isurance essentially for free, like this one, I'll take it.

I always waive the insurance too. But if you can get it with a code for essentially free, as the visa code does, it would be crazy not to take it. Although most insurances will cover you... the accident with the rental will be reported to your insurance company, and you have to pay the deductable too. If you take the car rental insurance, it's not reported, and no deductable. I rent all the time and never take insurance, it would drive the price WAY up as we all know. But having the extra protection for free, or a few dollars more... I'll take it!
I couldn't find a better price anyway than with the visa code. But I would have paid a little more for the extra benefit of the insurance.... just not TOO much more:)

I have never paid for the extra insurance. This one time, it was included at no charge, and I got a scratch on the bumper. If it is included, why not go for it. This is the only time I used Visa to pay for the rental just in case it was required and it gave us peace of mind.

When the insurance is not included, I pay the rental with Amex. They have a premium car rental protection policy which can be purchase for $20. Its automatic when I use my Amex card to pay for the rental. You only sign up for it once and it's good to go.
Details are on their site under travel services.

The major benefit is that "since this is primary insurance for theft and damage to your rented vehicle, you won't have to dip into your own insurance first (which could lead to higher personal rates), or pay a deductible."

Dont know if anyone has tried using the Visa code lately but I was trying it again to see if rates dropped. The rates when sky high with it now. I even tried using it later in the year for an upcoming trip and the price jumped. Anyone else experience this?

There is probably an expiration date that you are exceeding.

I have tried the Visa code since it first came out and it continues to be higher than the reservation that I allready had made with the other codes. (I can't remember if it is the AAA code or the Wal-Mart code.) Actually the closer I have gotten to my trip the rates seem to be getting higher. Glad I made reservations several months ago. However, I will continue to keep checking hoping that the closer I get that perhaps they will drop.

I just tried my Easter rental and the price is the same as i booked it a few weeks ago. My oct. trip (third week) the rate went up $43 dollars. the second week in Oct. was the same rate i got for the third week when i booked it :confused3 My christmas trip the rate went up $124. :scared1:
i rented the 7 passenger van was $477, and the 8 passanger van for the same time frame was $2500 for christmas, :rotfl: Who would pay $2500

Holy Crap! National is HIGH today. I just checked my Alamo rental 3/26 -4/4 and it dropped from $192 to $188 for a compact.:woohoo: Checked National for the SAME car...$765.18 :scared1: This would literally be THE SAME CAR!!! Why such a difference in price????:confused3
