Any luck with August car rental rates?

I got a mid size from payless thru orbitz for just $210. 10 days too 8/19-8/29. They're around the corner from MCO though.

Rates did drop today. I had booked a rental through Alamo for 8/12-8/17 at MK car care center because the rates at the airport were soooo high. My original rate was $239 (mid-size). I plugged it in today for my dates & the airport rates were still really high, but I was able to book a 12:00 p.m. 8/12 pick up at car care center & a return to the airport on 8/18 instead of returning it on 8/17 to CCC for $242. For the extra few dollars I'd much rather have the car for the extra day & drive myself to the airport.

I also found a rate on Dollar for a mid-size 8/12-18 at MCO for $202. I have that one on hold too, but I'm not 100% sure I want to go with Dollar. 99% of the time I rent with Alamo in Orlando & I'm not sure I want to deal with the upselling & no kiosks at Dollar. I'll decide soon & cancel one or the other.

Good luck to all. Seems like rates may finally be on the way down.

Just checked Dollar & Alamo again. Alamo was the same but the Dollar rate dropped from $202 to $165. Tried no code & KISSE the rate was the same. Looks like I'll be using Dollar this trip.

i went through the costco site but they have no mini vans could this be? they have a good rate on a full size car but it says it is a ford tarus isn't that a small car? we have 4 suitcases and 4 people.

A Ford Taurus is considered a full size car. However, I am not sure how big the trunk is.

I just had a 2010 Ford Taurus for a rental car. The car fit 5 of us, 2 adults a 13,9 and 6 year old. I found the back seat tight but ok for a week. The trunk suprised me and was very big. I think it should fit at least 3 big pieces of luggage. I hope this helps you.

thanks for the info....sounds like it would work and it would save $150. but dh is afraid i will buy too much stuff and it won't fit in the car:laughing:

Looks like your dates are Sep 22 - Oct 1 from another post. With Budget using BCD Number x474200 (travelocity public code) and E-Coupon MUWZ023 for $25.00 off the total for a minivan is $390.21 after coupon is applied at checkout.

That's strange because I got Doubletree as code M03. The rate is less since not at the airport where you pay additional fees. Total $373.42 after $25.00 coupon is applied. No error message about coupon code MUWZ023.

It doesn't even give me an option for a van unless I choose mco. So I called budget and they told me that if it is a busy time the only location that I can get a van is mco....very strange I totally want that rate of 398.00 for a van through budget at doubletree....I just can't get a van to come up?? After hours of trying every orlando location i still can't get a van unless i go with mco through budget and it is $470.oo or $400. through dollartree mco but will have to pay for additional driver.

I guess this is why we stay onsite and take the bus....vero beach better be worth all this trouble

I just rented a minivan through priceline for the end of August at $25/day. It will be through National which is in the airport terminal. Havent found anything else close.

What is the total price with all the fees added in?

The total amount was about $340 for 10 days. So, about $34/day for a minivan on priceline at the end of August from MCO.

I just did the same thing about 5 minutes before making this post. Got a minivan from National via Priceline:

Your Offer Price: $25.00 (per day)
Total Rental Days: 8 days(7 days and 21 hours)
Subtotal: $200.00
Taxes and Fees: $95.71
Total Charges: $295.71
Lowest Published Price: $896.93 (USD)
Total Savings:* $601.22 (USD) (You saved 67%)

$295 isn't the best rate I've ever gotten, but IMO it's fair.

EDIT: forgot to add that this rental is for Saturday 8/21 to Sunday 8/29.

That seems like a fair deal for a minivan with the rates I have been seeing. I just rechecked my dates through car rental savers and managed to get a full size for $230 through Alamo for 10 days...I am so excited that my rate has dropped $100 over the past three weeks!
