Any luck with August car rental rates?

I booked our rental car in March for our August trip. I'm paying $146 plus tax for a midsize car for 8 days.

If you have Costco membership, you can rent through Alamo - 1 week comes to about $177 including taxes for a Compact.

This includes the extra driver.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I get rates of around $400 per week using the Costco code and a coupon.

Rates are the highest I've ever seen. We usually use Priceline, and gotten really good rates (12 to 15 a day)I've bid up to $32 for full size with no luck!!! I ended up using Dollar for our rental, picking up tomorrow, at the Regal Sun, and dropping off at MCO on 7/28. Mid size car for $380 and change. There was quite a price difference in picking up at Regal Sun than at MCO, it's worth a little extra step. I thought I'd pass it along :)

It's so bizzare. I'm not seeing the rates most of you are seeing.

I just booked Budget yesterday for $188 taxes in for std car for 6 days. National was $313 but I hadn't tried any codes at all yet.

Hi there.... yes, car rental prices in florida have been outrageous for the past few months. When we planned on our trip for this year, I started looking right away for rental cars. About April, the prices just skyrocketed. We wanted a mini van (kids and luggage) and the cheapest I could find was over $1000 (not including taxes)

Then the other night, I was reading another posting on this board and someone posted a link for carrentalsavers.com. They have a bunch of offers for Florida.... the best one I could find for our trip the end of August was $225 a week for a mini van through budget. :cheer2:

Here is the link if anyone wants to try it for their upcoming trip

Car Rental Agencies all over have been practicing collusion with the public in recent past. You need to shop around and don't panic. The airlines have plenty of empty seats remaining for August....so the car companies will have to lower their rates unless they want their lots full of cars for the month.

I used budget 302.00 for van for 7days in August. So far, this was the best I found. In past years we had a great deal alamo, but nothing yet this year.

I thought summer 2008, Orlando rental car rates were quite high!

We always do a rental car on vacation in Orlando, and this seemed to be the year that started to climb!

Last yr, summer 2009, we did Disneyland/ and San Diego and the California rates are even worse!:scared1:

You're right, August 2010 rental car rates are very high!

Have a reservation on National, but will keep looking.....We usually rent at least a full sized car, sometimes a premium...We're renting 8 days, so its seems that 8th day makes it even higher still than a 7 day!

Anyone else find rental car rates to be high?

Thanks!:woohoo:

You may want to check out Alamo. They currently have a double up-grade coupon at least for *********** (free) members. That will get you a large car at a mid-size price, plus they are exactly the same cars as National.

They might lower them some, but for my trip in late June, I never saw rates get lower. I managed to snag $140 for a compact for 6 days, and even that rate went away pretty quickly. I was hoping to upgrade for close to the same price, but didn't find any rates that were worth it to me. Even the "last minute deals" offered 2 weeks before my dates were higher than what I already had booked.

So far the best rates I have found on Dollar Rental Car have been through a corporate code found on the Orlando Magicard site.....$209. per week for a compact in mid-August.

:goodvibes :goodvibes

Off the disney area, but we are going to NH for 7 days 6 hours in August and the cheapest minivan is 536.00. I cant even get two compacts for under this price, I dont want to buy the car :) Whats up with these rates?

I just booked Alamo today with Bjs. website and am paying $245.00 from August 22 to the 30th. for a full size car. Michelle

Thanks this is a great site

We are also having problems finding a decent rate for a full size for 9 days for early August. It appears much cheaper to use ME and then get a rental car at DTD. They allow you to return it to the airport. That is saving us over $300, but makes things more of a hassle. We will keep looking for a better deal.

Rates are much easier to get once school starts back up. For those of us looking in July or August, it's hard to justify paying those outrageous prices.

I got 10 days from Payless (they shuttle you to their place around the corner from MCO) for $210. Mid size too. Aug 19-29. I'll try to get it lower using priceline as we get closer. Booked it through orbitz, reserved but not charged unless I pick it up.

Very happy!

Anybody getting anything good in August for rates? I really want to try to lower mine.:car:
