Any Luck Upgrading Hopper Ticket To New Sorcerer's Pass

I'm hoping the reply was from a misinformed CM, but it's certainly disheartening.
We can hope, since that's such a significant change in long-standing policy. But given that the statement was written (in a Chat session), it's not looking good.

I agree. It’s just such a bummer. It’s hard to understand why they won’t allow it. Since the AP’s expiration date always aligned with the first day you used the ticket (during a block out period), you actually get less than 365 days.

"Any tickets you use that fall in the block out time for your pass can not be applied to the cost of a new pass

Might be me reading into it, but it‘s possible the CM meant that only the part of your tickets that are blocked out will not count. So if two of the seven days were blocked out, you won’t get credit for those, but you will get credit for the five that weren’t blocked out.

I can understand - it was a well-known means of avoiding the expense of a full-price AP that covered those blockout dates. It's the same reason they stopped selling AP certificates that can be redeemed years from now (and years ago stopped selling regular tickets that never expired) - they decided they were leaving too much money on the table from guests who figured out the way around the blockout dates and who stockpiled AP certificates years ago and who turned up with ten year old tickets with one or two days left on them.

I truly doubt that, because the per-day cost of tickets is weighted more heavily on the first few days than on the additional days. So which five days would you get credit for - the first five, that are the most expensive, or the last five, which are less expensive? Disney doesn't want to deal with that.

Well, I guess I do understand. I’m just disappointed.

I’m aware that when you buy fewer days they cost more, but when you buy the tickets online they are advertised them on a per day cost basis. So I would think they would just take that rate per day that you can’t use.

They could - but they don't want to!

BTW, in the example you gave (2 of 7 days are blocked out) I think they'd probably charge you the per-day cost of a 2-day ticket, not the per-day cost of a 7-day ticket. Because they want you either to pay full price for those 2 days or to pay for an AP that doesn't block out those 2 days.

I wish they had not changed this policy - I benefited from it myself a few years ago - but the fact is that they have made the decision to do it, whether we like it or not.

I'm going in December and the last two days of my trip are blackout dates. I talked to Member Services and they told me to do the upgrade to Sorcerer when I'm leaving the park the final day. She said I would get credit for the entire hopper at the upgrade. A lot of conflicting CMs and information, but that has always been the policy with the Gold Pass. So, I'm sticking with it and trying in December in person.

Lots of conflicting information but it seems that the loophole may be closed. Just be prepared for them to deny.

They upgraded the park hoppers that were linked to an upcoming stay to Sorcerer's Pass. So the just showed up on our MDE. The Pass said starting Sept 7. I was told the date will actually start from the day we activate, which will be 9/12
So you were finally able to upgrade hoppers to the Sorcerer's pass over the phone? Did you loose any of your park reservations? I've read rumors that if you upgrade ahead of time you may loose your park reservations. We have hoppers for a trip 9/26 - 10/3 and I'm terrified of loosing our Oct 1st & 2nd park reservations....

I think they are mentioning that because those not staying onsite would loose them because they pulled from a different bucket.

Those with onsite, which is DVC, pulled from resort guests and those were not based on ticket type. Both multiday and AP pulled from that bucket as long as you had a resort reservation.

So am I missing something? :ssst: Is there an advantage in taking all this time & frustration to upgrade tix ahead of time VS just going to Guest Services once you get there?

Only for people who have other trips and they want to get park reservations booked soon vs when they travel.

I was wondering the same thing. We arrive Wednesday and I didn't know if I was missing something. I waited 3 hours on the phone before I gave up figuring I would just upgrade when I got there. We have one current AP and just need to get another as my husband never had one in the past and things are different now that we have so many DVC points and he's retired.

There was some verbiage from Disney that annual passes would be limited. It was published on several "news" sites that riled a lot of people up. I don't think the language was much different from the past, but with everything going on now at Disney people were concerned if they waited until their actual trips, they may not get a pass.

Between that and just the pent up demand of not having annual passes on sale for over a year, it's been a busy week at WDW Ticketing.

I was able to upgrade my park hopper tickets to Sorcerer's passes Wednesday afternoon. The CM told me the current wait time for ticketing services was 3 hours and tried to talk me into calling back another day, but I asked him to add me to the queue. At that point, he told me he could set me up for a call back and that the call back time would only be about 30 minutes. So, that seemed like the way to go.

Sure enough, I got a call back about 30 minutes later. However, when I told that CM what I needed, he mumbled something about having to transfer me, and off to hold I went! But an hour-and-a-half later, I finally talked to a CM that could do the upgrade. It only took her about 5 minutes or so.

My new passes showed up in My Disney Experience immediately. But oddly enough, they show: "Expires Monday, Jun 13, 2022". Of course, I haven't even activated them yet, so I don't know what's up with that. I'm guessing it's just a placeholder date until I activate the passes.
which number did you call to begin with?
