Any ladies with hysterectomy experience? Update!

Best of luck with your surgery!

I had a robot-assisted surgery two years ago to remove the uterus, cervix, and tubes due to massive fibroids. I didn't have any real symptoms prior to surgery (no heavy bleeding, pain, or other issues), although by the time of surgery the fibroid was so large it could be felt by just pressing on my stomach. My three hour surgery ended up at six hours due to the dense nature of the tumors. I had to spend one night in the hospital because of severe dizziness of all things. I had no trouble going to the bathroom or eating, so I was released in about 24 hours. My husband was TDY, so my mother came up to help me. She drove me home and I immediately walked upstairs by myself and took a shower and washed my hair. The only pain pill I took was in the hospital (they made me to be sure I could swallow it and wouldn't have a reaction). I did take the motrin 800 at night to help me relax enough to sleep.

By day 3 I could walk around the neighborhood. By day 5 I was walking a mile or more. At my two week follow-up appointment I was wearing my regular jeans and begging my doctor to remove restrictions (he refused). I spent 5 weeks on short-term disability and another week on half-days. At week 6 my doctor lifted all restrictions and I was able to go back to crossfit, although for another two weeks or so I restricted lifting to 50 pounds. At week 7 I ran a 5k (not my best time!). I never experienced pain that I would classify above a "2" on the 10-point scale.

I'm not bragging. Everyone's recovery is different. I was young and healthy and had not had excessive blood loss or exhaustion from symptoms prior to surgery. I worked with the trainers at my gym on a series of core-strengthening movements for two months before surgery. My mother, a nurse, kept me in bed for almost three whole days. I will say that after week 3 my husband came home and was almost, completely, zero help. If he had been my primary caregiver for the first week, I'm not sure how I would have fared.

Listen to your medical team and to your own body. If something feels "off", by all means call your doctor! Getting plenty of rest and not stressing out about what isn't getting done is key!

Fingers crossed...I see the doctor this morning to discuss options AND hopefully get on her surgical schedule ASAP.

Wow, she moves quick! I'm scheduled for next Monday March 20th. I'm nervous but relieved and ready. They actually wanted to go for it THIS Monday but I need the week to get things arranged with coverage at the farm. We're good to go for laparoscopic surgery and she's taking everything but the Ovaries. Now...off to Walmart for some over-sized granny panties and sweat pants.

Wow that's fast but the sooner you have it done, the sooner you'll be feeling better. Lots of luck that everything goes well and that you have a smooth recovery.

Hey ladies...just updating you from my hospital bed. Had surgery earlier today and it was easy peasy. I have zero abdominal pain and am not on any pain meds. The operation was laparoscopic assisted v hysterectomy. I have three little bruise spots on my abdomen from the scope. I only juuust started to develop a gas pocket in my right side that is radiating up to my shoulder but it should pass if I can let out a couple good ones lol. It is quit uncomfortable..stabby...deep breaths hurt to. Nurse just suggest turning in bed frequently.

Thanks for the update - glad you are feeling pretty good. Get some rest and take care. :flower1:
And keep us posted on your recovery :)

You will have gas pains, just prepare to breathe through them. My friend thought she was in labor, and I could NOT convince her that she didn't have anything to be in labor with! I went two houses down, turned her upside down and shoved a suppository up her behind. Instant relief. Her husband, who had never been all that fond of me, changed his mind that night.

Glad to hear the surgery is all over and you're hanging in there! Hope you are home soon and make a quick recovery. Keep us updated. This may be in my future as well

Lol definitely got those now. No abdominal pain but the gas is pretty bad. Hurts all the way to my shoulders.

"This too shall pass" :rotfl2:

I had the laparoscopic a few years ago. My doctor called me a few times to remind me that I'd had major surgery. You really feel better pretty quickly. I think I ended up with maybe 2 weeks off of work, which was a compromise. In the past, when I'd had a laparoscopy, I was back after weekend and a day or so.

Glad it's over!

Well I just got up to use the bathroom and was like . There's the pain in the abdomen lol. It wasn't awful just a reminder that yeah you just had some organs removed.

So happy for you that it went smoothly. And after the next few weeks, you will enjoy the benefits of having done! It is such a blessing!

So happy it went well congrats, but please take it easy as you recover!

Glad you got it over so quickly and are feeling semi-okayish! Just remember to do what they say to the letter--do not push yourself just because you feel like you can do something!
