Any Interval Hotel Recommendations?

We are going to deposit our points that need to be used by December for an Interval trade, but don't know which resorts to pick. If you have any suggestions please let us know. Thanks

Have not used II, but traded for the first time for Marriott's Manor Club in Williamsburg VA. Beautiful resort, wonderful staff, great accomodations. You can see it on the Marriott site. We went in June and it is very convenient to Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Busch Gardens. It is on a golf course, has three pools(one indoors), tennis courts, BBQ grills, arcade, daily recreation activites for kids and adults. Our One bedroom had a gas fireplace. Great time for our first trade since we joined in 1994.

Royal Sands in Cancun. Absolutely beautiful. We went this January and had a great time. We had an Ocean View 2br condo. Maid service everyday, that was nice. We loved it, would go back there again.

I have two small children and they loved it as well.

since you live in Ca - how about Hawaii?

after you deposit with II I think you have 2 years?

Our guide told us Marriott Aruba was a good trade.

With some 500 overall exchange options, that's quite a broad question. Since you live in CA, why not consider places like CA desert, Tahoe, Canada, MX or HI. You have 2 years from the date of the deposit that DVC gives to II so likely about 25 months, to COMPLETE your travel. You may want to consider CC stays like San Francisco, San Diego or you may want to consider BVTC options like Whistler which you can do for other than 7 night stays. Remember the top choices are rarely given up and there are NO GUARANTEES on getting an exchange.

What are considered the top choices? We would do the conceirge collection, but we already have two trips before Dec. and a third may be too much. It stinks, but we can't use the points for eiher vacation.

Top choices would be things like HI for Marriott's, Embassy's and Westin for Xmas to Easter and Summer (maybe more for HI). Essentially any 5* for weeks 52-16 (Xmas to Easter) in the Caribbean and MS. 5* ski resorts during ski season. HH in summer, CA coast in summer. Just to name a few.

If you want to go to Hawaii and need a nice backup in case the Marriott's don't score, you could put in for the Kona Coast on the big island. We haven't been there (we're going next March), but it gets nice reviews and has the reputation of being fairly easy to land as a trade. The down side of this resort is that you must walk across a golf course to get to the beach. On the other hand, most people go to the big island for volcanoes and ranches rather than beaches, anyway.

We had no trouble finding a 1-bedroom trade to Kona Coast for spring vacation (144 points), starting 15 months out and scoring at about 11 months out.

It is easy to land as a trade. The problem with listing it is that if you do, you will almost certainly get it.

I know exactly what Dean means. If you do get offered the Kona Coast (and there's nothing wrong with that!) then you have to decide whether to accept it and bail on your other choices--which we did for the peace of mind--or hang on and try for something more glamorous.

You can always add choices later including KCR.

Right now, the II site is down, and I since I'm just starting this I have another question. Are we ablet o trade with any other properties other then the ones that are in the membership book. You guys mentioned Embassy's but they are not in there. Please help!

The Embassy's in HI recently changed to II though they are dually affiliated. They have also been added to the DVC list as they should be. You cannot trade through DVC for resorts not on the list but can trade privately or through independent exchange companies if you wish. For example, San Francisco Exchange gets a lot of Embassy's and Trading places gets One Napili Way.
