Any info on the current free trip offer?

I've been thinking of joining the DVC with DH for several years now. I've noticed that the price just keeps going up (LOL!), so I think we should take the plunge soon. I'm wondering if anyone has any info on the current promotion (free trip) being offered. It seems like there were better offers in the past.

Also, any comments on SSR versus buying a resale? I would really prefer to be at VWL.

i went back in august, so the info might have changed. the free vacation basically is the number of points you buy that you can use right away.
for example, if you bought today 200 points, you might not get a use year until august. what that means is you cannot use your points until august 2005, unless you borrow them. so if you go ever year, you are 'behind', and you would have to borrow every time from there on. the 'free vacation' is your amount of points bought (200) that are good to use for a certain amount of time (i forget, but i think they give you 9 months or so). then in august 2005, your regular use year begins, and you would be able to use those points for your next trip etc.
i don't think the 'free vacation' points are bankable, but i could be wrong, and you could always use those and borrow from 2005 if you need them.

If your resort of choice is VWL, then buy your points there via resale. You'll pay about $80 per point (net) out of pocket, and renting points can offset some of the up front investment if you won't be travelling right away.

For SSR you'll either pay $85 per point or $95 per point if you take the "complimentary vacation" offer. SSR does have the benefit of a contract that's 12 years longer, but there's little sense in buying at SSR if you're certain VWL is where you want to be.
