Any incentives coming up for direct purchases??

Just wondering if anyone has heard if they are going to be offering any incentives any time soon? They haven't had anything substantial in a while. Their offer earlier in the year was nothing to write home about.

We will be visiting WDW in November and have been thinking of adding on. Hoping for some good incentives to help us make that decision. I would do resale but for some reason my wife wants to only do direct. Their recent shenanigans has her nervous about future possible exceptions to resale. Thanks

Even the sales Guides normally do not get advance word of promotions before they are officially rolled-out so I doubt you'll get much solid info on future pricing.

SSR has been selling quite well at a flat $99 per point. After being stagnant for 3+ years, SSR has been the top seller for the last 2 months. But assuming that pace continues, SSR will finally be sold out in a couple more months. Might not see any noteworthy movement on pricing at other resorts until then.

they are offering discounts off the price of AKV right now. Discount is based on number of points purchased. 104$ per point at 150 pts or more.

I was kind of hoping they would do the AP incentive. My wife wants the cruise incentive.

I'm also torn on which resort to buy. We plan way ahead and like to visit all the resorts and are not fussy when it comes to views either. At $100 I am thinking OKW might be an option. That is where we are going in November and if we really like it might go there. BLT is just to high right now, which is evident in the nose dive in sales at BLT. They need to get it under $120 before I would consider it. We enjoyed BLT just not $138 per point enjoyment.

I might just hold off and see if GFV actually happens, but we have been having to borrow the last couple years which is going to catch up to us soon. The wife really likes the GF, but I don't see them selling anything for a few years, if it is actually getting built.

Buy resale and with the money you save you might be able to take a few cruises.

Something important to understand:

Even if you buy direct, the things they took away from resale buyers (Disney Collection, ABD, DCL, etc) are not part of your membership contract, and could be taken away from direct buyers as well. Buying direct does not guarantee that you'll have access to cruises or any of the other non-DVC options for the duration of the contract.

All of the exchange options are essentially perks. Your contract gives you the right to stay in your home resort, subject to availability. That's it.

Given that, I can't see any reason at all to buy direct. If your wife is thinking that it will give her some sort of protection against losing perks, that's not the case.

When we were there in Mid Sept BLT was $150 per point! :scared1:

I am so relieved you wrote that. I just bought resale and was getting nervous with some of the things I have been reading lately. (Not to mention my "guide" left a message on my answering machine telling me that buying resale was probably a big mistake and I could have done just as well, if not better buying direct.")

While that is a possibility, we can only spend so much time paralyzed with fear over what could happen down the road. Those exchange programs have been around for 20 years and there is every reason to believe they will continue. It's in DVC's best interest for them to continue. Much easier to market a program which includes Disney Cruises, Disneyland Hotel stays, Tokyo Disneyland, etc.

The only logical approach is to make purchase decisions based upon information available today.

I'm not knocking resale because obviously there is money to be saved when going that route. But the FUD used to write-off trading options as a benefit whose days are numbered is a little excessive, IMO. It's akin to telling folks they will be killed in an earthquake if they move out west or see their house destroyed by tornado in the plains states.

Could it happen? Yes.

Is it likely to happen? Highly doubtful, IMO.

Thanks for the good discussion. I agree with tjkraz's comments that it isn't wise to make a purchasing decision based on pure speculation. They have not touched those added benefits for 20 years, why do we think they will do that anytime soon?

While those "perks/benefits" might not be the best way to use your points, they definitely have a value to some who on occasion might like to try something different. It's the flexibility that is nice knowing you have were buying resale you know you don't have.

I guess it all comes down to the individual buyer and their comfort level and what they value. While I can't rule out I won't add on via resale, I do see value in having the option to try a cruise or something within the Disney Collection.

Again, thanks for the discussion. I believe its always valuable to have different points of view to help make an informed decision. Please keep it going!

No it doesn't make sense to base a purchasing decision on speculation.

NEITHER does it make sense to base a purchasing decision on a PERK.

If you're going to add on, add on for the CORE value of DVC, not for options which are poor values on their best day.

It is $150.00 a point. If you add on over 100 points you get $12.00 off that price per point, which takes it down to $138.00 pp.
OR...you could buy it for $40-$45 per point cheaper (and probably less) resale.

Your choice.

Seriously??......

I was hoping for a constructive discussion. I'm not naive to think Disney would give us the farm, but maybe you need to look up the definition of incentive. A LITTLE something to persuade a buyer to purchase through them is what I was referring to.

I realize that resale is by far the cheapest way to go, and financially speaking probably the best. Does not mean its the only way to go. You can give your opinion without mocking others. Even constructive criticism is acceptable, but being a smart @$$ isn't.

I just added on 150 points at BCV - and apparently there are no "perks" for sold out resorts. We just could not resist buying in Epcot and I am in a sinilar situation to you - the wife does not want to hear about the resale market. . .Good luck in your search!

I would suggest it is fair to assume at this point that buying direct does protect you from losing these types of perks. It definately protects you today. And since Disney is trying to now differenciate direct from resale, it would seem even more unlikely now for Disney to remove perks like DCL from direct buyers. I now see the opposite. You are right that it isn't guranteed but at this point, I would say that you can argue buying direct does and will protect certain perks.

I'm sure they were just joking around. I personally found it funny, and not at all offensive...nor intended to be offensive.

However, calling someone names is certainly a violation of DIS posting policies.

Then don't tell her BCV resales are clearing ROFR at $80 and a little lower. That's $35 per point lower than the direct price.
