My son has had symptoms of being nausated after he eats and then gets tired. We have had several tests done and no answers. Any suggestions.
He has lost 25 lbs in the last month.

have they tested him for diabetes or celiac disease?

Both of those things can cause a weight loss adn to be tired after eating.
That big of a weight loss would make more sense with celiac probably
I had both of those problems for a while adn they tested me for both but both came back negative so either one of those might be a possibility.

HTH

seriously? I would take him to any Dr. and or specialist I could find.

That is awful! I'm so sorry to hear of his illness. I will keep your DS and you in my thoughts and prayers.

How old is your DS? Has he had problems with certain foods before? Allergy testing? The first thing I thought of was a problem with gluten, but it's just a wild guess.

I hope you get some answers soon. Poor guy. :(

I would say allergy to something, or gall bladder trouble, or maybe Crohns?

Please give more details.
Age
Other health conditions
Has he traveled outside of the country recently? If so, where?
Any other symptoms
What tests have been run?
What illness has been ruled out?

First of all, to you. It must be scary and frustrating to not know what to do for him. Our friends' daughter, now 13, had similar symptoms, and the doctors tested and misdiagnosed her for years. For a long time, they couldn't figure out what it was. She also lost quite a bit of weight. Sometime last fall, the doctors finally diagnosed her with pancreatic divisum, which as I understand it is a congenital division in the pancreatic duct. In most people such an anomaly never causes a problem throughout their lives, but in a small percentage, the anomaly can cause the enzymes to back up into the pancreas causing severe pain, nausea, and other symptoms. If your son has had abdominal pain chronically for awhile, you may want to ask your doctor about this possibility.

FYI, this young girl had some surgery done about 2 months ago which removed part of her pancreas (among other things) and she is doing terrific now! Her pain has been almost completely eliminated and she is eating normally. It was a long painful road for them, but she is now doing really well.

Wishing you the best as you try to find help for your son. :goodvibes

He is nausious after he eats, burps alot while eating, then gets the gag relux, sometime vomits. plus gets the feeling of feeling hungry.
We were seen at the mayo clinic.
just frustrated. He is so sick of feeling sick.
I have thought an allergy to something? Celiac, and gallbladder. I have googled symptoms and get lots of illnesses. So I am turning to my disboard friends for ideas.

He has tried nexium with no relief.

I'm sorry that your son is having health problems. You must be worried to death. You need to schedule an appointment for your son with a pediatric GI doctor at the closest large university hospital. We can give you support here, but we can't diagnose your son or give him treatment over the internet.

what about a worm- yes I know that he is not a dog but I know someone who went to an island for their honeymoon & got sick, she found out she a tape worm...I would got see a specialists

Did they rule anything out at Mayo? Did they take tissue samples during the colonoscopy? If so, have they been examined by a pathologist? Is it possible to have the slides reviewed again by another pathologist?

Does he have diarrhea or bloody bowel movements? Cramping after eating? Any family history of bowel disease or digestive disorders?

What is his doctor's plan of action? Surely they must be concerned if he's lost 25 lbs in a month?!?!?

I think his symtpoms sound a lot like Crohn's Disease. My 12 yo DD has Ulcerative Colitis but they thought that she had Crohn's for a long time because she had similar symptoms. The only difference was the she had frequent bloody bowel movements.

I know it's frustrating but you need to keep pressing for answers.

Really sorry to hear this!

Make an appt. at the University of Minnesota. It sounds like an autoimmune disorder and the U of M is far better than Mayo for autoimmune issues from personal experience.

My fiance has gastric metaplasia. Its basically tumors in his small intestine that create a large amount of stomach acid. He has had it for thirty years now but was only properly diagnosed about 6 years ago. He started having symptoms when he was 14. He described what you are saying and back then they told him he had issues with processing sugar. he lost a lot of wieght and just looked sick all of the time. He would have bad episodes here and there. He finally found the right Dr and they diagnosed it and put him on 2 pills. He gained wieght and is pretty much fine. He will have problems a few times a year esp. if he is stressed or eats the wrong food. I am thinking it causes him not to absorb food right because he can eat 3000 calories in a day and still lose wieght...
Oh... he had to swallow one of those cameras in a pill for them to figure it out.

My prayers are with you all, sincerely. My mom has similar issues caused by a hiatal (sp.) hernia and esophagus problems (but no weight loss). She has her esophagus "stretched" every few years and takes presrciption med.(like nexium, i think). She has to not eat at night, especially salads. I understand your frustration, our daughter had a virus with a headache that began in october 2008, the virus lasted 4 weeks..but she still has the same headache, but lighter, nearly 8 months of this. The pediatrcian can't do anything else.We have seen a neurologist 4 times and she just prescribes med. and says 'we may never know what causes it" even though she has yet to order a single test(until I demanded an MRI),which we will do in Aug. We are seeing a chiropracor,(who says it's misalignment in neck) which has helped a little. It has worried me to the point of nearly asking for med. myself just to calm down, so my heart goes out to you. Hugs, and prayers to you.

I am sorry your son is sick but please have them test for H-pylori if they haven't already. This can lead to stomach cancer and has some of the same symptoms you describe. It sucks but is treatable

Stomach problems are sometimes the hardest things to diagnose. Have your doctors keep looking for something. If he has loose stools all the time and bloody ones (sorry..tmi) he could have Ulcerative Colitus, but she said he had a colonoscopy and that should detect that. 25lbs in one month is just not normal. Keep him going to the Dr. and be persistent..take charge of his health and go with your gut feelings. Keep us updated.

Minus the feeling hungry part I had the same symptoms. I was throwing up whatever I ate or drank quite often. The Docs didn't take me seriously and I have limited patience to keep seeing specialists and paying out copays. I finally just really started watching what I eat and eat very bland foods. I mostly eat eggo waffles with butter spray. No pizza, no cheese, no grease nothing like that. I needed to lose weight so that wasn't the issue but it is nasty to be heaving all the time and not knowing if you are going to keep a meal down. I had fettucini alfredo today for a big celebration and so far so good but I know if I were to continue to eat this way I would be right back where I started. I would google milk allergies if he eats things with alot of milk. I could be something as simple as that. Of course it could be something else entirely but eating a blan diet and seeing if you can keep the food down might be a start.

My good friend had a failing gallbladder and had it removed. She continued having pain, throwing up, lost 40lbs in 2 months. After many, many Dr. appts. ishe has a rare condition called sphincter of oddi. SHe can't eat anything over 4g of fat and 2g of saturdated fat.

Did they check him for diabetes? Lymph node checks? Did they try prilosec or another brand instead of nexium? What about a CT scan? I've never had a MRI or CT scan so I am not sure if they are the same. I am sorry to hear he's going through this, but hopefully you all find out soon what's wrong.
