we had to cancel the hawaii cruise last year because of my mom having to go into hospice care
we did have travel insurance so we were covered with my moms health
we got a refund soon after I filed the papers for the cruise--the air though the insurance said since the airlines gave us a credit for a year-that we would have to wait for the credit to expire they just wanted to make sure we didnt use the credit and then were looking for a refund which I understand

so now the year is up credit expired (or so I though) I called the airlines and they said that because of covid the credit were good for 2 years!!!

the paper that I got said credit expires 1 year agent said that was old policy now they give 2 years whoopie
all I need is a statement from the airlines credit expired without use--so the airline will actually make out cause they wont pay for the refund its the insurance

does anyone have any idea who else I can contact to get my money back--
since I didnt cancel because of covid (I cancelled about a month before covid became a thing) and my paper says 1 yr the credit is good for
thanks all

Your insurance company is going to want something from the airline that says your credit is expired. That piece of paper that you have isn’t good enough since it doesn’t actually say it is expired.

Since your airline told you that the credit doesn’t expire for two years, that’s not going to happen.

Most airline companies gave a two year credit for people canceling flights during a certain time period...regardless of the reason for cancellation

Thanks for the reply. I know the paper I have isn’t enough for the insurance com but it does say credit is good for one year. And now it’s 2 years Basically the airline changed the rules on me mid stream. This just doesn’t seem right

I suspect the airline is trying to be fair/ kind to customers that, even though they canceled before the virus, didn’t want to travel in the last year due to the virus. By extending it to two years they don’t have a lot of upset customers who weren’t able to use the credits. I think you are in a large minority that are upset it was extended.
I would guess you just have to wait another year or use the credit in the next year. Maybe try calling back and asking for a Customer Service Manager and see what they suggest.

You'd would have to get something from the airline that says your credit has expired. You could try talking to the airline and getting them to pre-emptively expire your credit, but it would probably be hard to do. If it was me, I'd just hang on to the credit and try to use it for another trip (doesn't have to be to the same place if that's what you're thinking). If I couldn't then wait for it to expire and submit it to insurance.

I just got a fantastic email from one of the 2 airlines we were booked on. They sent the statement worded so I can send to the insurance. The statement said after one year the credit expired unused now just waiting to hear from the other one
