any ideas for the 100 days of school?

1st grade teacher here...

Our 100th Day is next Friday.

My class has the same assignment to bring in 100 items, but they cannot just bring 100 items in a bag. Each child has to think up a way to "display" the items.

For examples, I always tell the kids the simple ones...
100 Legos to make a tall building
100 popsicle sticks to make a house
100 Fruit Loops on a string to make a necklace

Those are simple, but you should see some of the really creative ones.
Awesome. One time, a parent & child took 100 toilet paper tubes & painted them orange. They then assembled them to look like a giant tiger (our school's mascot).

My kindergartner has to do 100th day Display.. So we got a piece of plywood & I'm going to pick up a yard of black velvet material & tack it to it.. Then we'll make a sign for the bottom that say's:


SUZY'S CUSTOM JEWELERY
Sold Separate or Entire collection for 100 pennies!!

Then she used 100 paper clips to make a crown, necklace, belt, braclet & ring..
SO I will have amounts by the different pieces
Ring - 5 pennies
Crown - 35 pennies
Necklace - 20 pennies
Belt - 25 pennies
Bracelet - 15 pennies

TOTAL COST: 100 pennies

So we are using 100 a few different times & kicking in some Math too!

Since it is always around Valentines Day you could buy 100 Valentines and glue them onto posterboard or even 100 conversation hearts in a heart, name, 100 pattern.

I like the ponybead necklace idea....That is something they could actually keep after this is all over.

I teach preschool and I have seen some crazy things myself.

But I think the snack/trailmix idea is my favorite. I love anything that has to do with food.

My sister just did this and they did 100 Christmas cards. She's also used 100 pictures of her child.

I asked DD what she wanted to do for her 100 day in Kindergarten and she wanted DOGS! We probably had 100 stuffed ones but she wanted to make a mobile with them.....so we cut out 100 dogs pictures glued them to cardboard circles and tied them to a thing with clips for drying laundry....she worked so hard on it and it turned out so cute we displayed it in her room when she brought it home.

I stole this idea from my friend's daughter's ideas list. You can take 100 goldfish crackers and glue them to a fishbowl that you've added to a poster board. I'm not very creative so I may just do this one! My kindergartener has to take something next week too.

My DD and I were just talking about this after school today. We were trying to come up with something. I told her about this one and she can't wait to do it. Great idea! Thank you!

My DS has his 100th day on Thursday. He needs to bring in a project on a posterboard or whatever with 100 items. They also need to bring in 100 items that they can share. (erasers, stickers, wrapped candy and so on) So far we have thought of straws, 100 piece puzzle, paper clips, and cotton balls. He will have to decide this weekend.

a little girl in my daughters class brought 100 sticks of gum and passed them out to the class after the day was over..we did a bag of 100 different things from around our home ( that was allowed too)

I buy too much generic so would never have 100 boxtops. But our school also collects the tabs off pop cans (I think these are for ronald mcdonald house) and milk caps from 2 different companies who donate back to the school for saving them.

Last yr I sent tootsie rolls, our grocery store sells them for a penny each. One yr I sent cheerios but I guess a few crumbled so I got a nasty note from the teacher

I'm a kindergarten teacher, and I know last year one of the best things someone brought was 100 foam shapes that were all different. Many children worked with him the whole morning on classifying them into different categories. (size, shape, color, etc.) This turned into a meaningful activity. Stickers would work for the same thing, if they didn't stick them anywhere yet. I would recommend something with variations like this.

Other fun stuff that would be fun for the group to play with and probably useful for the teacher:

100 chenille "pipe cleaners"- you can buy at Michael's or other craft stores. They're good for all sorts of craft projects that the class can do together.

100 pencils or crayons

100 sheets of construction paper

100 inches of colorful yarn (probably a pain to measure, but fun to play with!)

My daughter has to do this for Monday. I wanted to do something creative but on the paper, the examples it gives are all edible items so I'm assuming they want to use it for snack.

I think we are couting goldfishies...

Just when I thought I was done school, DD brings home so many projects!

Thank You Thank You Thank you all! What great ideas from everyone! I was thinking that the mickey heads would be cute too and I remember I think Lowe's has the mickey heads to show the paint samples. I also like the goldfish and foam character as well as the puzzle idea. Now I will ahve a hard time choosing just one. Thank you all again. I can lways count on my Dis friends!

When my DD was in kindergarten, they had to help decorate an item of clothing with 100 of something on it.The kids love it because they wear uniforms everyday. Buttons were popular. We sewed on 100 pieces of beaded fringe onto a vest. There was a fashion show with snacks afterward. It was a really fun day set aside for the kindergarten classes.

anyways here's my 1st grade project(made in 2002):
okay get some smashable(not all cooky are smashy!! )chocolate cookies
then smash them to little peices then pour them in a little plastic cup after that get some gummy worms(if you put different colors it will be a rainbow!)and make little(or big) holes with the chocolate breaks in the cup and put the gummy worms in the holes!

AND WALA!you get (well it's almost like) worms in dirty dirt!!(try this at home kids!)

gummy worms
and lots of chocolate cookies!

When my DD was in Kindergarten we cleaned the playroom and found 100 Little People (from various Fisher Price sets). They were of many generations (I love to "garage sale" so most came from those endeavors). The teachers thought it was a great idea.

My DS will have his 100th day week after next, I am thinking about Matchbox cars for his 100 items...hoping we have enough!

DS is upstairs right now making a spacecraft out of 100 bowtie noodles (uncooked ) He tried to make it stand up on top of the board, but it turned out funny, so it's now flat. They are having a 100 Museum on Tuesday so all the kids will have their projects on display. Should be cool.
