My girlfriend (mid 40's) & I are going to Orlando the 1st weekend in May for 3 nights & there are so many hotels to choose from: here's our requirements:

We're not going to the parks
Just relaxation & sun bathing around a nice pool area w/o too many little kids
Can walk to restaurants/shops
AND OF COURSE not too, too expensive

Any ideas or suggestions? Actually we'd like to be on a nice beach in Fla. but Orlando seems to be the cheapest & direct air out of Pgh.

Thanks for your help!

Gaylord Palms and spend a day at the Canyon Ranch Spa...with an emphasis on "ahhhhhh" :)

The walking to resturants is the problem. All the nice hotels seem to be isolated so you have to eat there (Gaylord, JW Marriott, MOWC, Hyatt etc.)

I know that you said you weren't going to the parks, but my favorite would be one of the hotels at Universal. That time of year there won't be too many kids, you can walk or take the water taxi to all the city walk shops and resturants and the pools are great! Its not cheap, but it is nice and you can walk to many resturants and shops and the pools are great! If you are sharing the rooms and use AAA discount, it might not be that bad.

I agree with Universal area, also consider downtown Orlando. There are many nice hotels for resonable prices and you can walk everywhere! There are many nice restaurants, shops and nightspots if you want to go out at night and have a little fun. You are less likely to run into as many families with kids since it is not convienent to theme parks.

You said not to expensive so I'd think that would exclude Gaylord Palms and the Universal Hotels. You said you won't have a car so that would preclude using PL.

I'd either book a DTD or Disney hotel for the access to the transportation system or skip Orlando. You might consider FLL. You could try PL to get a hotel near the beach. Even if you need a connecting flight your vacation will be more like what you're looking for.

Sometimes the Doral in North Miami has great deals. Or stay at the Holiday Inn across the street but use the Doral facilities for a small fee.

If you aren't stuck on orlando, the Mirror Lake Inn in lake Placid NY has FANTASTIC rates that time of year. You would need a car to get there, but once there you'll never need to drive again, the spa there is decadent, and you can walk to downtown. It's perfectly safe to walk around downtown with just the two of you late into the night.

Maybe you could rent points and stay at Saratoga Springs for the weekend. It has an awesome pool and Spa and a easy walk to DTD restaurants and shops. You definitely would not need a car and I think it is perfect for a girls weekend.
