Any Idea what this pain could be? *Update Thursday Morning*

Hmmmm.. I don't know.. I've suffered from IBS for years and years and it doesn't sound like IBS to me..

If it continues - or gets worse - could you go to an ER?

Hope you feel better soon!
There is no way in hell I am going to the ER near school. It is an awful hospital.

The worst part is not being able to find a comfortable position and being hungry but not wanting to eat.
They really don't have any 100% sure idea that is Irritable Bowel but that is what the symptoms are pointing to.

Norah, are you talking about the hospital in Greencastle??

The hospital in Danville isn't bad. But your best bet would be to come to indy, we have some great hospitals. I don't know anything about the ones in Terre Haute.

I don't know what kind of insurance you or your parents have, but the main hospitals here are Methodist, Wishard, St. Francis.
Methodist and Wishard are both level 4 trauma hospitals. But Wishard is a general hospital, so getting in would take longer.
St. Francis is a good hospital too.
There are other's but those are the biggies, and the ones I know most about.

Maybe someone else knows about the other hospitals close by to you.

Take care and I hope you're feeling better in no time.

If I have to go back to a hospital which I really hope I dont I would go to Union in Terre Haute which is where I had my unexpected surgery back in February.

I'm glad there's someplace closer that you trust. :)

Well I do have IBS and those are some of the same symptoms I have when I have an attack. IBS can present itself differently in different people. The truth of the matter is that you are diagnosed with IBS after they have ruled everything else out. It's like a catch-all. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Oh and I control my IBS through diet and exercise.

I do hope you feel better soon, Norah, not any fun not feeling well away from home, not that at home is good, but more comforting it is.

As the day goes on the less I think it is IBS.

I am now feeling the pain in my upperchest and throat where I am breathing and stuff.

I think it is your gall bladder as well. When I had my first and only attack, it felt like I couldn't breathe. I only had relief when I laid down. I didn't have the severe side pain, until I went to the doctor and he pressed down where my gall bladder (was)- then it hurt! My urine also started to turn orange. It turned out a stone was blocking a duct, which is why it was hard to breathe and why my urine turned a funky color. He said it was the most unusual presentation of gall bladder disease he had ever seen. I got it out two days later.

Good luck and GO back to the doctor!

Well they checked my urine and they checked my gallbladder.
It hurts even when I lay down to but the feeling like I couldn't breathe has just kinda gotten worse. It is like the pain moved from my lower torso to my higher torso.

Norah, did they take x-rays? Did they give you any pain meds? Did they give you a time frame to expect an improvement? Generally, if something doesn't get better within x amt of time, you should go get some more tests. I would also say that since it is changing/spreading, you might want to go back with the new information. A pain like that sounds very scary.

I had a similar pain for about 3 days a few months ago. I know how scary it can be when it doesn't go away. Don't feel silly for going back; that's what you're supposed to do.

Did they rule out rib fracture? Gastric ulcer pain can also be felt in your upper chest. Has that been ruled out? Sorry, I know it's silly to try to guess what it is. Just wondering what tests they did.

They didn't take x rays.

They took blood to look at my white blood cells and for stones than they took a urine sample.

They said she was leaning towards IBS but I feel awful and it definitely doesn't feel like IBS.
I mean now the pain is in my upper chest so how can that be an irritable bowel? I definitely feel like I am gonna hurl at any time.

I just wish I knew what I had, how long I was going to have it, and WHEN IT WILL STOP HURTING!! (they gave me no pain meds)

Can you go back to Health Services and tell them the change in the pain and see if you can get looked at elsewhere like the hospital? I hope that you get a resolution to this and feel better soon!!

This is making me kind of glad that when DD goes "away" to college next fall, she will be less than an hour away ;)

Sorry you're feeling so sick Norah :(

:( Is there a walk-in clinic you can go to before they close and you have to go to the E.R.?

I went to my college's health services once for a bad sore throat. The dr there said, "yeah it's a little pink." The next night I was in the E.R. because the pain was so severe. They admitted me to have an abscessed tonsil lanced. So, that goes to show that either things can change very quickly, or that no 2 doctors are exactly alike :p . Seriously... there's no need for you to be in that much pain all night. At least see if you can call a nurse hotline to see what you should expect.

Hopefully a nurse/dr here will be able to give you better advice.

The local ER is really really really bad and we don't have a walk in clinic that I know of. Besides it is already 7:00.
I am gonna look and see about a nurse hotline.
Thanks everybody :)

Norah, IBS does NOT interfere with your breathing.. Please go back and demand further tests or go to a nearby hospital..

Have you called your parents? If not, I really think you should.. I'm concerned by your symptoms.. :(

My mom knows about what health services said.
Right now however, my family is at a concer for the night.

I am wondering whether I should call an ER and talk to a nurse and see what she says.
Health Services is closed until tomorrow mornign.

It is less pain now and more just extreme discomfort in my upper chest and throat.

Don't rule out the walk-in clinic. The one I went to closed at 9:00, much better than going to the E.R. Maybe the hotline people will know of one.

Can't find a hotline and I am in a small small small town so I really don't think there is one in town.

:( Well at least you have the DIS -- there are plenty of nurses here who have worked in emergency med
