Anyone have an idea or guess on what the wait time will be at rope drop on opening day for SDMT ?

Guess, posted 120 minimum--and that's conservative I think.

You've heard about Anna and Elsa I assume?

Kind of Apples and oranges comparison, though. What is the capacity per hour for each attraction?

I think (and this is just a guess) that, at rope drop, the standby line for 7dmt will be longer than space mountain but shorter than A&E.

Yep, just a guess. I don't think we can possibly know the capacity until we know how many trains there are, among other things.

I was just wondering because I messed up my fastpass +. I did have a morning fastpass and tried to change the time. I thought I was getting 10:00am-11:00am but I looked today and noticed it was 10:00pm-11:00pm  I will have no chance of getting any extra fastpasses. I thought if we got there at rope drop we could ride and change that fastpass for an earlier one on splash or something. We dont want to wait an hour or more to ride at rope drop :crazy2:
Does anyone have any kind of strategy to offer me on what to do if I cant get an earlier fastpass for SDMT ? I keep checking but no luck so far. Should we keep the SDMT that late and do as much as we can at rope drop or wait in line at rope drop for SDMT and use our fastpass for other rides ? I'm expecting it to be at least an 8 on crowd levels so what does any one suggest ? Oh I just had a great thought, what if it is pouring down rain yeah ! Grab the rain coats and enjoy the less crowded park LOL !

Similar problem for me. I am hoping that they held some FP+ back for day-of so I will be able to change to a SDMT FP+ the morning of - here's hoping for us both. pixiedust:

For the number crunchers out there, Touring Plans posted some info you could run with, but not enough for accurate stats: http://blog.touringplans.com/2014/05/09/disney-world-seven-dwarfs-mine-train-fastpass

Since we at Touring Plans love numbers, I timed the trains to get a rough idea of rider capacity. Be advised that these estimates are based on testing and training cycles, and may not be indicative of how the ride will operate on or after opening day.

* With what appeared to be three trains in operation and no riders, the shortest time observed between dispatches was 48 seconds, with an average dispatch interval of 1 minute.
* With riders, the shortest dispatch interval observed was approximately 1 minute, 45 seconds. However, I didn’t observe enough consecutive occupied trains to accurately compute an average interval.
* Each train consists of 5 cars with 4 seats per car, for a total of 20 passengers.

If operators can dispatch a full train every 60 seconds, the ride will have a throughput capacity of 1200 riders per hour. For comparison’s sake, that’s more than Peter Pan’s Flight, but significantly less than Space Mountain or Haunted Mansion.

No way this will be 120 minute wait at rope drop. Now it will probably grow to 120 minute wait or more quickly after rope drop. But at rope drop the only factors that I can think of will be EMH and how quickly you can get to the ride. If it's not an EMH morning and you're the first one to the ride, it will be a walk on. As for opening day?... There may be more factors in play that will make it longer, but 2 hours is probably still on the high side.

The A&E comparison isn't the same. These are drastically different experiences with different capacities and timings. Common sense will tell you that the A&E line will move much slower than a roller coaster without even knowing specific numbers.

Also depends on how many fastpasses were given out for the first hour

Well one positive for keeping the fast pass @ 10pm is that if you timed it right I bet you could have an amazing view of the castle with the fireworks. Sounds pretty magical to me.

Fair enough. I thought maybe that info was already out there.

Not sure how that would be possible since it hasn't opened yet.

Yep. That.

And they start AT park open instead of 40 minutes later like legacy FP did.

And we have no idea whether Disney went conservative with the number they issued, in case of ride breakdowns (very common for a newly opened ride) or went all out to satisfy demand.

Well if we cant get an earlier time we plan on watching the fireworks then heading to SDMT :confused3 I'm so bummed because I really wanted to try to get extra fastpasses :sad1:

While technically you are right that at RD the ride will be a walk on, assuming technical difficulties don't delay the opening. The bigger questions may be what will the line look like at 9:05, and how early will you need to be at the MK to be towards the front of RD.

And at this point, that's a big question mark. There have been no general public soft openings yet, no Annual Pass or DVC exclusive ride times, or anything else of that nature to get locals through the ride.

While I don't think it will be near this bad, absolute worse case scenario is we all remember opening day of WWOHP at Universal's Island of Adventure back in 2010.

If you arrived at at Universal even an hour before RD, there was a several hour wait just to get into the park, followed by a several hour wait to get into the land, and a further several hour wait for the new ride.

I don't think anybody is expecting this big of crowds 7dmt but Disney isn't taking any chances. It has already had it's "grand opening" media day. It's opening on a Wednesday instead of a Friday. But the evidence is clear from WWOHP, if the locals come out in force, watch out.
