Any hope for airfare going down closer to travel date? AirTran specifically?

We have our family vacation all booked and ready to go for Nov. w/ awesome airfare through AirTran.

My husband and I would actually like to take a one day trip to Disney World to visit his favorite artist, Shag, in June. The hotel rates are as reasonable as we can expect, but plane tickets through AirTran (the cheapest) are about $250-$375 for departure and return. We can't do that...It would be about $1000 for the two of us :scared1:

Does anyone know if AirTran specifically has a history of lowering the ticket price as travel dates get a little closer or should we just forget about this little vacation?

I think it depends on the market you're in. And I think it also depends on your travel dates and if you can be flexible. If it's over a weekend, chances are less.

Yep, it's from a Sat. to Sun. and the dates aren't flexible since the artist will only be there that weekend...probably not looking good then huh?

It's been my experience that Sunday is the worst day to try to fly home from Orlando. $$$$

Depending on how many seats are empty. Airtran will run a quick (and I mean quick) sale to fill them. The last one I caught happen to be in the middle of the work day around 11:00 am about 3-4 weeks before our date and were selling out fast. I did manage to get 4 at $59 each way for early July, Saturday to Saturday. We planned on driving so it was a nice surprise.

Airtran usually has periodic fare drops i think @6 weeks prior to travel.

I thought Airtran just released their rates for November, and I don't know where or when you are flying from, but when I just tried pricing flights for Jersey week, they are through the roof!:scared1: I hope they drop because I'm jonesing for WDW!:sad2:

In my market Airtran is up, down and all over the place right up until two weeks before travel...then it is high until about three days before travel and if there are a few seats there are some bargains to be had.

Typically, prices do tend to get cheaper within 3 months of travel dates, but that's not happening right now. DH has to fly from DTW (Detroit) to Houston (either IAH or HOU) in July. I've been checking prices since February and they have either stayed the same or have even gone up some. Now that flight is at $500! You can sign up for fare alerts from kayak or travel zoo and they'll let you know what the current rates are or when an airline (like AirTran) is having a sale. I've noticed that AirTran's sales are usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Good luck!
