Any hint or talk or whatever of a new park in Disney World?

I can sum up Disney's thought processes in 2 words: Corporate Mentality.

As much as I love all-things-Disney, things would be so much better if the Co. would forget the "bottom line", and go back to doing things the way they were done when Walt and Roy were in charge.

I have to agree with you. To much Corporate mentality and not enough "from the heart" thought processes. :sunny:

OK, if people are standing on line for 45 min. to an hour, they are NOT spending their buckaroos on t-shirts and $45 sun hats with goofy on them. Wouldn't that be a reason to keep off the over extended lines? Or am I missing something........It seems to me that they would more then make up the cost of using a little more Disney generated power opening another ride vehicle and putting on another CM, by selling more of their Chinese made super high profit trinkets........... perhaps?

My aunt went to Disney a couple of weeks ago for a business conference and they had a speaker from Disney. The speaker was talking about how Disney makes decisions and specifically about Fastpass. One of the driving forces behind Fastpass was keeping people out of line so they had more time to buy food and shop.

Disney does not benefit from long lines.

...in the Orlando Sentinel a few days back an overview of Disney, tied to the 50th Anniversary of DL. The prevailing opinion -- strongly hinted by Iger -- is that Disney will be building overseas, if it builds at all, and that there are no plans afoot to expand in the US.

And, let's face it: their last attempt, California Adventure, didn't exactly set the world afire.

Iger and others suggested that they wanted to enhance the parks they now have, and specifically entice more people to come back more often for longer stays. Which is one reason why they are pushing DVC so much (and adding more rooms at SSR) and giving DVC members significant discounts for buying an Annual Pass.

I also heard that. We just took a Keys to the Kingdom tour at the Magic Kingdom, and the question came up about a 5th park. Our tour guide said Iger wants to enhance the parks here, rather than think about a 5th park.
As for people complaining about long lines at MK, consider going at an off peak time. We usually go in October and November and the weather is beautifull and the lines are short. Disney does not benefit from long lines. That, I am guessing, is why they came up with the Fast Pass system. They want happy guests, and guests who have to wait in a 2 hour line I would not think would be too happy. (It is the happiest place on earth, right?) We were just their this week and rode just about everything and never waited more than 20 minutes for anything. Read the Passporter and Unofficial Gudes recommendations, they work. The Magic Kingdom is the most visited tourist attraction in the entire world, I am sure it is no easy task to keep lines short, but if you ask me, they do a pretty good job. That is probably one of the reasons for the incredable amount of detail they put into the que lines, like Splash Mountain, TMR, etc. Most attractions have things to occupy your attention while you wait, whether it is with a pre show or the details.

We ONLY go at off peak times. I'll admit, if you get to the MK by opening, you have a fighting chance to see some of the stuff, but you can't see everything during that initial early morning trek. By 10:30, MAYBE 11, lines are already too long. The only way to do it would be to be at the gate at opening for 5 or 6 days in a row, and go too a different area each day, then leave by 10:30, and do something else. That's been our experience. There was actually a time a while back, before they had early opening at the MK on Sunday, that Sunday morning was a great time to go.

In agreement with what the last few folks have said, an article a few weeks ago in The Orlando Sentinel stated that Disney is focusing more on enhancing their current parks while building more overseas. Personally, I don't know why they're doing the latter - they get a lot of overseas tourists here at WDW... wouldn't that be a lost market if they could just go to the park closest to them? Or does the new parks make up for the lost revenue?

On another personal note, I'm glad they're not building a 5th park - the current parks (especially AK & MGM) need some fresh new things. I'd have to say these two parks are my least favorites... what they have there isn't really enough to keep me wanting to go back. I frequent EPCOT and MK more. Also, the change of management within Disney will hopefully get the calibur of the new rides up a notch again - like that flop of a mistake updating Journey Into Imagination was. I heard from friends who've been to the new Stich Encounter being fairly disappointed. It's the same attraction, only with Stitch instead. :confused3

Next time you go to the Magic Kingdom try going to the left after Main street into Adventure Land first. You should be able to do Adventure and Frontier LAnd in 2 hours. We were told 80% of the people go up Main Street and go to the right into Tomorrowland. We tried going Left and we were at the Haunted Mansion by Noon.

The reason they want to build overseas is because companies throw millions of dollars at them to build the parks, companies like the Oriental Land Company who isn't afraid to spend what a real park costs to have the best. Why build more parks here where they have to flip the whole bill?

As far as lines, my theory was always to hit the rides first and skip the shows, more walking, but if you get there at opening, you can hit most of them. Also the Extra Magic Nights and Mornings help in that regard.

I wish Disney would do like Universal does (or did, haven't been there in years) and serve cold drinks in the line and have a cart that goes down main street while people are waiting for the parades. They could make a fortune...

Went on backstage magic tour in January - guide said no plans for 5th park - they decided to upgrade other 4 instead but he did say that plans had been seriously considered for a villians park. Too bad -that would be cool!

One of the driving forces behind Fastpass was keeping people out of line so they had more time to buy food and shop.

Apparently, however, the extra sales did not matieralize like they thought they would. Most people use that time to go on other attractions, not spend extra money. In fact, it was determined they were overusing FP at DL, so it was pulled off of a few rides.

I think the issue at DL was that they found that, with the tighter walkways and such at that park, the extra foot traffic of the FastPass holders was clogging things up (and the extra sales were not materializing in a significant way).

No, the problem with DL is that they put fast pass on attractions that don't need fastpass in any conceiveable way. Such as the fast moving Pirates. All fastpass did for pirates was remove half the queue.

Similarly, Haunted mansion even when it's queue is full has no more then a 30 minute wait, because it's the fastest loading attraction in the park.

They do use fast pass for HM during Christmas though.

They put Fastpass on Winnie the pooh which makes sense in florida, but literally NOBODY rides this ride in California, so it was a waste of space....etc.etc.etc.

For my family, if there are long lines we simply leave the parks and go to target :D Since we have no target where we live, so its a bad thing for us. I agree with the villan park but I believe it would be better if they put a villian place in MGM :wave2:

I've heard many times that they were considering a Villians park with scarier rides. Probobly more focused on the older kids. Sounds pretty cool but I do agree that they should update some of the older rides first.

i agree with this totally. no need for a villians park. the villians actually all come from disney movies so it seems logical it should become a part of MGM.

The villan park rumor has been around for quite some time. Judging by the statement made by disney mucky mucks last month {I think, or the month before} that they are supposed to concentrate on adding to the current parks as opposed to buiding new ones in the USA, I somehow doubt that there will be any new park construction for some time.
Personaly, I don't think they need more thrill rides. But that's another post somewhere on the boards.
