Hello to everyone. I am new here and have noticed alot of info is available. We are driving down from east of toronto area with 5 children(haha) in may. I was wondering if anyone could help with the following....1...Which route would you suggest I75 or I95, and why.
....2..Any good books you might suggest ahead of travelling
....3..Anyone been to daytona.Inn on the beach hotel and what to expect fromn this area.
we are planning a week in orlando rented a house and a week at daytona in hotel.Any tips or advise would be great. Our plans are 3 days at wdw and some R&R, prehaps universal I dont know. Any imput is appreciated in a great way. Thanks and feel free to start throwing ideas my way..Thanks ahead everyone..have a great day..:jester:

Do Universal... Check CAA for Universal passes and Sea World passes. Since driving, I'd check Daytona first. I have not been there, but in material I've seen, I don't think it is a great place for a week. Reading these boards, a week is no where near enough to do Disney.

Hit the library plenty of Florida/Orlando/Disney guides. Your head will be spinning trying to make sense of it all.

Welcome to the DIS! You've certainly come to the right place for help!
We've driven down a couple of times and have always taken I75, but we stop in London to pick up my b-i-l and then head for Detroit. We also go during the winter when the road conditions are usualy better on that road than on 95. Since you're going to Daytona first, it would probably be faster for you to go down I95. If you belong to CAA, get them to do a triptik for you that shows both ways. I've heard that I95 is quite a pretty drive since you go through the mountains a bit.
What age are the kids? What you do will depend on that to a certain extent. It is perfectly fine to do just 3 days at WDW as long as you don't expect to see everything in that time. If you go knowing that, you'll have a lot more fun.
Seaworld is a great place where you can actually sneak in some education;) We took one of the backstage tours and our kids got to collect all kinds of interesting things and pat some animals that most people don't get the chance to do. DS also got to take part in the dolphin show.
I assume that you're planning on taking it easy while in Daytona. If you wanted to, you could take a day and run down to the Space Centre. Again, it's a great way to slip in some learning while they have a blast. Our kids loved it there, and still talk about getting to see all of the wildlife (aligators, eagles, armadillos) as well as all of the space things.
That's it for now, but I'm sure that others will have some ideas for you too.

Hi and welcome! We always take I75 no particular reason except that's the way I know now. If you decide on this route, there is a great book available called Along I75 it gives great detail on all stops, correct lane changes, etc. and hotel, food and rest stop tips. There is also a website you can get on if you have the book and it will give you up to date construction and road closures. As far as guide books my favorite are the unofficial guides but there are a lot to choose from. Most of all have fun! Planning is the best part!(maybe not the best but it is fun)

We drove from Barrie area to Orlando with 4 kids for the 3rd year in a row. It`s not that bad. I bought the Along Interstate 75 book and found it very helpful.
The biggest problem is how gross the bathrooms are at the restaurants and gas stations, unbelievable. The best places to stop for those breaks are the rest stops, they are very clean.
A tv/vcr is a must.
We rented a house in Orlando this year and it was great.
