Any Guesses on Ticket Price Hike?

I've now received two MouseSaver newsletters that speculate on price hikes for park hoppers, and warn that you should probably buy tickets soon. As we know, they hiked prices on APs in October, but left PH prices alone. Any guess on when they'll hike prices on Park Hoppers?

It's been different every year...used to be in August, then it was bumped to April, then February. I'm guessing sooner than later. I wish they'd just keep it the same for awhile, it's hard to budget!

Last year they did the hike in mid-February for both AP and tickets, and then again for AP in October.

Be ready and just do it. Tickets don't expire!

We bought ours as soon as we decided we were going - the eTickets don't expire and the vouchers we bought are actually 100% refundable so why wait!!?!

Hmm, the Disneyland tickets page says "The first day of use of multi-day tickets must be on or before December 31, 2016". So they do expire at the end of the year, as they always have. Where do you and courtneybeth see eTickets that don't expire? And the terms and conditions say they're non-refundable. So where do we find refundable vouchers?

Thanks for the help. I thought I knew all about DLR tickets, but I feel like I'm missing something here...

According to the Disneyland website, a multi day tickets first day must be used by December 31, 2016 and must be used within 13 days. All one day park tickets expire 12/31/16. So as long as you are going to be going this year, you should go ahead and buy them now if you can. If your trip isn't until 2017 then definitely don't!

Where were you able to buy vouchers that are refundable?

I have read from others on this board that if you do not use your pass by end of the year - so by end of 2016, that you would still be able to use the $ you paid for your passes for tickets in 2017. So I think that is what people mean by 'never expire' in that you are not going to lose your money if your trip had to be delayed significantly. However, like you said, if you know you are not going until 2017 then buying them now won't save you against any increase.

The vouchers are through Flight Centre in Canada.

I fully expected to see ticket prices increase by now. I thought it would happen back in November right after they increased APs. But, after they released the info about discount So Cal resident tickets today, now I wonder if an increase isn't coming as soon as we thought?o_O Leave it to Disney to keep us guessing.

They may not hike up prices while attractions are closed and construction is going on. Perhaps the biggest hike will come just before Star Wars land opens.

I read a few articles about tier pricing being introduced - pricing tickets in accordance with anticipated attendance levels - I am sure Disney has access to some pretty skilled actuaries who could crunch attendance numbers and try to produce a pricing algorithm that allows for a more constant attendance throughout the year. It certainly seems that was their intention with the pass changes last fall. Not sure how much this would thin things out over Christmas but it might work other times of the year. Disney may also be at that tipping point where they actually have to start pricing people out of their parks in order to be able to keep them open since it appears to be coming the Manhattan of theme parks. All one has to do is look at pictures of when the park is what they call "at capacity" and realize the potential for a disaster should there be a fire or heaven forbid something worse - evacuation would be pretty slow - unless they just started whisking people out back entry ways?

I also wonder if they were to introduce this sort of pricing if tickets already bought to date would be affected - either way the price is more than likely going to go up more than it's done in the past - some way or other - and if they did do this type of pricing then at least people who cannot afford the higher end pricing could select to go during a less busy time for less. At least that would provide some flexibility and not shut out people entirely.

Must be nice to have their problems though...

That's interesting regarding the tier pricing.

We're going the end of next month, maybe I should go ahead and buy our tickets soon just in case. I usually wait until a week or two before the trip to purchase, tbh.

There was no warning at all with the last annual pass increase, back in October, so I would buy my tickets as soon as possible, if you know for sure you're going. I know a lot of people were caught off guard with the last price hike!

Can you upgrade (add more days) to tickets at the parks? We are going later this year, but we are unsure if we are going for 3 or 4 days to the parks. Can I buy 3 day tickets now and add the additional day (paying the difference) at that time if we need it? And, if I do so, do I need to use the tickets first before upgrading -- I know I have had to do that at WDW, but not sure if DL operates the same way.

You can upgrade a ticket up to the maximum of a 5 day Park Hopper - I don't think you need to use the ticket before you do this though, but I am not 100% sure. You have until park closing the last day you are in the parks though to upgrade your ticket so you have plenty of time to decide. If you bought a 3 days ticket, then on the 3rd day in the park you would have to go to the ticket booth and ask to add to it before the park closes that day, of course you can do it sooner but at least that gives you time to decide. If you buy a 3 day ticket now though and the price increases, then you would have to pay the difference between the price you paid now for the 3 day and the updated price for the 4 day.

We're going in early March. I already have Disney Gift cards to pay for our tickets. I wonder if I should go ahead and buy them. My only hesitation is that once I purchase Disneyland tickets, there is an expiration date, and they can only be used in Cali. If something happens to interfere with this trip, it is unlikely that we will re-schedule a trip to Cali. It is more likely that we would end up going to WDW eventually, and the gift cards can be used in either place. I wonder what the ticket increase would be, if there is one. We're only getting 2-day, non-hopper tickets anyway so I wouldn't think we would lose TOO much if they increase the prices ...

Looked at the increase history, and I'm guessing that IF there even is an increase, it would probably be in the range of $3-$5/person/day. So, for our family we're looking at approximately $24-$40. Given the fact that if anything comes up to interfere with our trip in March, it's very unlikely we'll make it to Cali in 2016 - I think I'll risk a possible increase and just hang onto my gift cards until we get there.

I don't blame you - especially if you don't think 2017 would happen should 2016 not, being able to buy with gift cards is saving you $ already!
