I'm having a tough time removing the wallpaper in DS's
room. I'm using a liquid wallpaper remover that you mix with water, and then getting the paper really wet. It's
a VERY slow process. Any ideas for a quicker way?
Thanks for any ideas!!

Warm water with vinegar. Let it soak in. Scrape off with a plastic scraper.

If the walls weren't prepared right when it was put up (sized) then you are in for some work.

Like the above poster said, but I wanted to add that you should score the paper they sell a tool for that and then get it wet and let it soak in. Peel of hopefully easily!

Yeah - I second the idea of warm water - I mix it with the wall paper remover - gotta let it soak in, reapply and use the scraper.
I always use it in a spray bottle.

It's a royal pain removing wallpaper! Good luck.

I did not like the scorer thingy. But what I found that worked. First take off the colored layer of wallpaper and then all that is left is the backing. In a spray bottle put warm water and some fabric softner. Spray well on a section and work a corner loose and start pulling and continue to wet up the piece. This worked better than anything i tried when taking down paper.

I just took down the wallpaper that was in the bathroom. The paper part came off pretty easily, but then the glue backing was still on the wall. I mixed some laundry soap and water in a spray bottle and soaked it down...let it set for a few minutes and then used my ice scraper to scrape off the glue paper.

Yep...it comes off pretty easily that way.

I was just going to post the fabric softener answer. Saw it this past week on an HGTV show (can't remember which one though - I watch so many - LOL).

He said it was cheaper than paste remover & the best thing they've ever found that worked. But I seemed to get the impression he was using it "straight" - not diluted.....and was applying with sponges after scoring the paper.

So, if diluting it doesn't work....try it straight.

OH....I think I just remembered.....I might have seen it on "Sell This House" or one of those types of shows on DIY or AE or whatever. LOL

I've got some to remove too & plan on trying it.

the wallpaper here at home...

Like other posters said...

Peel off the "paper" layer.
Warm water in a spray bottle.
Let it soak for 3 or 4 minutes...

Peel and or scrape:)

I found the fabric softener made the walls kind of hard to wipe down after...so after one wall, I just skipped it:)

Have fun!!

If the people who installed the wallpaper forgot to size the wall before they put up the wallpaper, hire someone to take it off. We had that problem in a house we bought and my poor husband had a fit trying to get it off. (I was under the weather and unable to help him at the time.) He found some professionals and they got it off.

I peel off the top layer and leave the backing. Spray or sponge the backing with warm water so it's thoroughly saturated. Then I check my email. Then I spray or sponge the whole thing down again. Then I check message boards.

Then I saturate the whole thing again and get the scraper - by then it comes off in 4' long strips and it's over before you know it.

Thanks for all of your great tips!!! The walls were
sized, so I'll keep trying!

I use Dif from Lowe's/ Home Depot and the scorer, and I peel the colored part off first.

I just saw this today on tv. One of the men said something about how people never let it get wet enough. He said to go around soaking each wall, 5 times, with the solution. He said then it will be ready to just peel off.

goodluck

I saw this too and I was going to post it as well. Try the fabric softener

I'm still a fan of the electric steamer.

Don't know that it saves time, but I tend to destroy walls when trying scoring, scraping, etc. ;)

Denise < --- used to love wallpaper, now prefers the more forgiving paint techniques like sponging, ragging, etc.
