Any Great British Baking Show watchers here? *spoilers inside*

Think it is carried on one of our cable stations (don't have netflix) and will watch occasionally. Like to see the various obscure desserts they make but less interested in the personalities involved. I assume most of the TV cooking contest shows are somewhat scripted by the producers and tend to play up the parts that don't go well or create drama to make the show more interesting. Food Network usually has several versions of their contests around the holidays. Some are reruns from prior years to fill up the timeslots.

I love the Great British Baking show. I have watched every season that is available. I loved Jurgen and really thought he deserved to be in the finals. I would have liked to see him and Giuseppe face off in them. This is the first time that I really think they booted the wrong person in the semi finals. I was truly shocked when they said his name. I follow many of the former contestants on instagram. My one daughter rewatches the special with the Derry Girls at least once every 2 weeks. We love the Derry Girls in my house. I am so excited that they are finally filming a new season.

I agree with everything in this post. I just watched the Derry Girls special last night. I just love them.

I mean, when one of the finalists is saying "Jurgen taught me all this", yeah Jurgen was in another league...and the fact he was helping his competitors all year meant he was the right kind of guy to win, so I'm annoyed they sent him home when he wasn't even the worst in the week...

Who would you have sent home that week? Jurgen was the ONLY non-handshake in the signature. He did win the technical, but his show stopper wasn't the greatest and Chigs and Crystelle got handshake AND their showstoppers were incredible.

It would have been amazing to see Jurgen go up against Guiseppe in the finals. Maybe they will do some kind of special all-stars in the future.

Chigs showstopper was NOT incredible - it was a simple 2 piece cookie that he broke with purple, badly glazed apples...and it was a simple recipe taste, so I don't believe Paul Hollywood when he said it was the best ever...

And Chigs technical was a total disaster...

For whatever reason, the producers or Paul Hollywood wanted Jurgen out and they made it happen...and did the best they could to try and skew coverage to make it make sense.

I mean, the displays were supposed to be edible and part of judging (which happened in every past season) and when the judges saw most of the other 3's rice krispie treat and the broken cookie, they didn't bother...why would that be, except the fix was in either b/c they wanted a dramatic finale or they just didn't want Jurgen to win...

That said, I could also make the case for Guiseppe to have gone home b/c his display was only a rice krispie treat with a badly done and equally simply decorated cake - but he had obviously done better than Chigs all season, so I could see keeping him over Chigs even if he had a subpar showstopper...

That said, I agree with the actual winner of the episode, even if hers wasn't as complicated/technically difficult, I did think it was the most impressive display (and wasn't just the rice treat but had 2 different things done in the display, like Jurgen did)...

I don't understand the conspiracy theories abounding in a fricking baking competition. It sucked they sent Jurgen home. I told my husband it should have been non-elimination because they all did so well.

Yes, Chigg's cookie broke, but it was fixed and I don't think it was even noticible in the final display. His apples did't look great, but only the judges can say how they tasted and that's what they went by.

I was rooting for Giuseppe since the beginning. Him and Jurgen were the best.

It’s suppose to be judged week to week, though, so I expected Chigs to win because it looked like Giuseppe had more stumbles. 🤷‍♀️

I liked Lizzy, but surprised they kept her as long as they did because of the constant demands for “finesse”. I was irritated for her. She was doing her best. I suspected something like adhd. Loved her last cake.

I thought Chigs would win the finale also.

I found it odd at the and when they showed what the contestants were up to. They had a big reunion and everyone was there except for Guiseppe. No real reason other than he couldn't make it.

I thought they said he wasn't on because he got a new job in Italy.. or am I confusing that with someone else?
